I ordered mine on 7th Jan and got it on 4th Feb... Since it's nearly March you're probably wondering why I'm bothering to share this information, but you know, when you fall in love... friends, family and even pets must temporarily say goodbye to you so that you can become happily aquainted with your new Paramour. Anyway, here's the photos of my new love:
Those were some sweet pics Evan. It seems the 17 incher beside the iMac is almost the same physical size as the LCD. Is that really so? I'm considering getting an iMac, but I'm a bit concerned I'll be downgrading from my 17" ASD in terms of actual viewing area. Same resolution = OK, though.

Glad you enjoyed my pics, Pegges! Yes, the actual viewable area of the two is almost identical... I knew that theoretically, but it's nice to confirm it, with the two side by side. For various reasons, marketing and just the state of the technology of the time, the 17" CRT monitors actually measure shy of 16" in real life. Plus, the iMac's flat panel is very crisp, and very bright, and completely non-fatiguing. I don't miss my old CRT and Tower system at all. Anyway, if you do get a new iMac, I think you have no need to be concerned, it really is an all-around great machine.
I got the following email from what seems to be the apple store... a little bizarre considering I've had my iMac for almost a month now. Anybody else get something like this?
[quote] Hi!
I attempted to contact you today regarding your interest in the new
iMac. I have been selected to be your representative at the Apple Store,
and I was calling to offer you assistance in ordering this product.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have
about any of the products available at the Apple Store. I can place your
order for you, and I usually have access to promotions that you can't
Something is going on now... First DirkS gets his iMac to Holland pretty fast (Ordered 26/01 shipped 19/02) and now my order shows as 'shipped' also. I ordered 04/02 from the Finnish Apple Store and was told that production would take 40 working days.
Could it be that clearing the backlog of the superdrive model is the reason for the combo/cdrw delay to April?? The Finnish online Apple Store now shows the superdrive as 'New orders Shipping Now' while the other models have a estimated shipping time of 7-9 weeks.
I ordered mine the 5th of febuary. I just hope it comes in before the 27th of March. Because I am leaving for vacation at that time
Ordered an iMac 800 from MacMall on 15 Feb. I didn't know the wait was going to be so tough.
Tick Tock Tick Tock!!! I hope it arrives by April.
I have supported Microsoft Windows from version 1.0 to XP, MS-DOS 2.0-6.22, Netware 3.11-4.x, SunOS, SGI Irix, Linux, HP Unix, Cisco IOS and Mac OS 7-8.x for a few years and decided the Unix based OS X 10.1 was the right time to move.
I also found that the equivelant Dell, IBM, and Compaq to be more expensive than Apple. The Dell and Compaq still have a big CPU and the IBM Netvista is overpriced.
I am eating my words from years back and buying my first Apple computer.
My iMac finally came today and it is well worth the wait. It really is a great machine! I bought it from MacMall on Jan 8th. I hope everybody else gets theirs soon.
Picture Steve Jobs  in a nappa Valley grove, getting sauced hearing a voice  in a low whisper........ build it and.... build it and they will ship?
Thanks for the update. Where did you order your iMac from?

I ordered it from the Apple store, just a regular purchase, not business or education. I've noticed that iMacs are shipping more frequently now. What was surprising to me, was that it went from being Assembled right to shipping. There wasn't a prep stage that it showed

Hey...I bet that means good things. The prep stage may have had something to do with the radiation. Looks like they're getting their act together.
I ordered my iMac on February 4th and it still hasn't gotten past the Assembling stage on the Apple Store. Does this sound like I am getting burned? I did happen to order it through the educational store with 1GB RAM, Office v.X, iSub, and Quicken; should that make much of a difference? I am seriously chomping at the bit!

nice. I'm skipping class tonight to set it up and play with it.
