I'm not KidRed, but here's what it does: 7.5-5.4%

I used the "small" player and got the results from top. I just got my dualGHz today, and it's really, really smooth. I'm writing this from Omniweb, which was too slow to use on my B&W G3 400, but runs unbelievably smooth on this.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Thanks Jay, those were the kind of results i was hoping for. I still wish it were under 5%, but what can you do?

As for waiting for the G5, I weighed that option, but I really wanted the Cinema display. Also, I figure a good 6-12 months with this and if the G5 is out i can always put it up on eBay. Also, if I hold out a year+ think about where the g5 will be, 2.0ghz+ , if not near a G6 </strong><hr></blockquote>

Good choice. We placed our order for a dual ghz G4 tower as well -- should be here next week (as well as a few new iMacs to replace our aging Bondi iMacs).

I think you'll be very happy with your decision. OS X runs like a dream on dual processor boxen like your dual 1ghz beast.

    Hi KidRed

thanks for taking time out to run these tests. To do an FPS test, at the main screen hit the ~ key. That should bring up the console. Then type:

    timedemo"1"

    demo demo001

where "demo001" is the name of the demo (it may be different on the demo version of Quake. If that doesn't work, try "four.dm66" I THINK... ah shit, someone help me out here!)

Then hit return and it should run thru the demo at lightning speed (well, it will on your Ghz G4!).

    Cheers,

    -Ed</strong><hr></blockquote>

Ok, I' m not sure if I did it right or if I'm writing the right info. (also note my haed hurts from watching those demos, everything is so fast - to me anyway)

115x864-32 bit- texture map to full,=59.2fps

    1600x1200- 32 bit-texture map full, = 27.1fps

1152x864 color depth default-texture map set to half=64.6fps

So I hope those are right, after the demo it gave the frames, the time in seconds and then the fps number.

It gave me a headache everything was moving so fast, but I'm not sure what good fps numbers are or how these measure up.

"We got a 1 GHz Dell for $1000." That pisses me off entirely.

KidRed, run some more benchmarks dogg!</strong><hr></blockquote>

Heya KidRed... great thread, fun reading... and interesting job...

Unless you have already done so, I would advise you to transfer the 20Gb of files by using Firewire Disk/Target mode... much faster than networking.

Just startup either G4 while pressing "T" and that computer simply becomes and external HD from and to which you can transfer files at 400mbit/s. bviously you need a fw cable to cnnect between them.
