I'm not surprised. OGL 2.0 has been absolutely glacial. If Microsoft has kicked butt anywhere it's here with DirectX pretty much eating OGL's lunch. It's a shame really.
I guess I'm being a real downer today, but I think the WWDC is going to be dud.
If there is no HD product anouncement in the 'Year of HD' then your right. Jobs would not say that unless ther was a rabbit under his hat or something.

Did something significant happen during the year of the laptop?

Yeah, the 12" and 17" PowerBooks were released in January of that year. This year a bunch of HD software was released at NAB, making this the year of HD.
How about a laptop shakedown at WWDC? I don't believe much of this will happen, but it's nice to dream. The iBooks get a nice bump, but the Powerbooks return after a few years of Powerlessbooks with an ultra-portable 10.6" Powerbook G5 on the low end (with a video chipset capable of driving a cinema display), and a dual-core G5 20" Lapzilla at the high end. All Powerbooks support HD resolutions natively, even the 10.6" Powerbook. The Lapzilla is basically a portable desktop that eats batteries and depresses sperm counts.

There aren't any OpenGL 2 compliant GPU's on the market- right now cards only support a subset of GLSL.

Right, before Tiger's release I had hope for OpenGL 2. And for a GeForce 6200 in the new iMacs

Right, but the card itself doesn't support all of GLSL... the drivers handle anything complicated on the CPU still. OpenGL 2 is still vaporware.

I don't think so.
I have no proof of this assertion. Let's see what little nuggets Steve J. Drops next week at the all things digital conference.
Then we shall have more clues.
Cell is still out there
and the crypto message about sony/apple.
The year of HD.
no, I think things are in the works.
2004 - New LCDs (including 30" model)
2003 - Power Mac G5s
2002 - xServes
So yes, something is in the works. What, we can only speculate on.
Also, what do you think will be the least exciting new product announcement?

That's what Steve wants you to think. You guys are tired of G5 powerbook waiting time. Think about it. Some of you predicted it over a year ago.

Only because we saw the PowerBook specs that listed it as having the 970fx way back in Mac OS X 10.3.5.

More PowerBook/iBook sales than PowerMac/iMac sales?

But you are on crack about the 10" powerbook with a g5. Think about that heat? The thing would LITERALLY burn your skin.

Yep, we heard the same thing about a G4 laptop back in the Pismo days.
Obviously, such a laptop would need a low-power G5, thus the "PPC 970gx" designation I used.
With regard to smoking crack, I refer you to this sentence in my post:
I don't believe much of this will happen, but it's nice to dream.
