Photoshop has every need to go 64 bit. Apparently you haven't worked with composites of 1920 x 1080 576dpi images. Doing filters on these images takes a lot out of cpu processing. Granted... altivec helps during this... If 64bit registers were usable for this it would considerably increase the speed.
Out of curiousity what images are you doing that that are 576dpi and not 600dpi? HD?
Since we're crediting M.Isobe, give him credit for posting info about Freescale PowerPC Sessions coming up June 20-25. Sounds like good sessions to go to for programming the new PowerBooks released at WWDC (I hope, I hope!).
AS far as the iBooks go, what could they boost the speed to if they bumped it at WWDC? 1.42Ghz!?!? You can't be serious...Apple is not going to bother until they have a chip for the Powerbooks. That isn't going to happen until just before Paris. Pure and simple
The iBooks cannot be updated without stepping on the PowerBook's toes. The lines are blurred right now between what the iBooks offer and what the PowerBooks offer, the only real exception being in the area of graphics and monitor spanning.
So in order for the iBooks to move up to the next step, the PowerBooks also have to move up to the next step too.
Are you saying the pbg5 will be aluminum with a black strip around the middle, or that it'll be spherical and follow you around and take pictures from floor level of cute girls?
'Cause, you know, either way...
(ps - it's not the Rob1 on macbidouille - he mostly talks about playing Doom 3 on his current PB... yes, I went and read it, in French, yes that means I'm unhealthily obsessed...)
WoW !!! I saw one of those rolling around on the bathroom floor the other day.
I thought it was there to clean the floor or squish cockroaches or something.

Sure hope you're kidding.
I'm glad we can re-route this thread to the original, 99.44% Pure Bogus(tm) post that started it all. I mean come on, our guy Microdisiac had "genuine sources on the manufacturing side!" And here we are totally ignoring his HOT TIP.
So. I'm rooting for the bluetooth-controlled, self-motile PBG5 in silver/black that will soon be following me everywhere I go. I will control it through my iPad pseudotablet wireless Airport Express interface video iPod thingy. Which will have the chameleon coating.
(I've been obsessively lurking on all the rumor sites, and this is the only nutbar claiming actual inside info on a PBG5. Sigh. We takes what we can gets.)
iBooks have been stepping on PowerBook toes and will be with the next update as well. iBook updates are still expected first - they are massively overdue.
I tend to only upgrade if the feature set or speed is double what I currently have. So I've done:
Pismo 400 ->
Ti800 ->
Alu 1.25 (not a doubling but FW800, AE & Superdrive made it a good jump)
Alu 1.25 -> ???
For me ??? needs more than just a 'G5', it needs to be 2GHz, HD resolution, DL Superdrive, 128Mb graphics, longer battery. A built-in card reader would be nice, and 4 USB ports too.

Then I'd buy.
I don't think there's enough space for a card reader and 2 more USB ports.

Not that I'm a smarty pants or anything, but I mentioned that a couple of weeks ago. See http://forums.appleinsider.com/showt...threadid=54019

WRT iBook updates...the PowerBooks are in the way...
Could you re-phrase that so I can understand it? Or can someone else translate?

Totally agree. This is a rock and a hard place, for sure. What about peak oil? How is anyone gonna get an iBook after that takes hold?
