Ebby, I've gotta ask why Blue Velvet? It's one of my favorite movies of all time....
It was dark, sad, depressing, and embarrassing. I had company over and the video store rated it as PG. NOT! All in all, I think I was a better person before watching that movie.
Definitely a movie that you would only want to watch with the right company! For me it is one of those movies that reveals more every time I watch it. I rate it as my favorite mystery movie.
Haunted Honeymoon - Thought it would be funny with Gene Wilder & Gilda Radner. Not funny and plot holes the size of Texas. Terrible.
Election - Just a flat out wrong film.
The English Patient - It won an Oscar why?
the english patient--what a waste of time--we walked out, another hollywood elitism self indulgent mess....but how "hollywood loved it" convinced all the papers it was "better" got an oscar--tells you something about "getting an oscar" more of a egocentric we are better than you attitudes (i don't like the hollywood elitists)--just yuck
"seven" a reasonable constucted story line, but so horrific never wanted to see it let again. i like movies i would watch again. it's like a date. i only go on a first date if i would want to go on a second or third ( worked with my wife, she is my most wonderful) dating her was definitly a "redue"
sometimes i just like a good story, sometimes mindless entertainment--i'm not looking for a "polictical statement (like the day after tomorrow--yuck), mostly i like comedies, romantic comedies--so i can hold my wifes hand tightly. oh pe-shaw. you know i like to be able to take my family to movies so we can all enjoy them. have you seen "herbie reloaded" simple, cute, fun. "chicken little"( now disney... do you think you can make it work without pixar?) "chicken little" was a hoot. but at $40 bucks with popcorn....ouch! but i'll buy it as a dvd.
most of the time i don't use "reviews" unless i don't know anyone that has seen it. i trust my friends judgement not so much hollywood anything--have any of you been to "hollywood" lately---it's a dive. junky, dirty streets, junky looking buildings, t-shirt shops, don't feel safe walking around.
yea...that's another one "the day after tomorrow" what a lame story line.
water world--
postman kevin costner better pick better scripts.
hasn't there been complaints that movie going has fallen something like 10-15% since last year....HEY HOLLLYWOOOD we have choices now......we don't like spending 30-40 bucks on just anything. i will admit that some shows look best on the big screen, but come on more and more are getting that big screen experience at home, there is a thread that lucas sees the new movie business model having us being able to download "in theater' movies . HEY HOLLYWOOD it's cheaper to buy the dvd then go the the movies....you charge soooo much that you have killed the golden goose (consumers)
It's like the difference between playing a First Person Shooter and watching somebody play one. The former feels fine, but the latter can get nauseating because you're not in control of the movements, so you can't anticipate them.
War of the worlds (the earlier video) was my favorite move for a long time as a kid. I probably rented that 3 times which was a HUGE deal in my family who never rents the same movie twice.
The new version butchered it emphasizing special effects more than plot or story.
That's the ONE movie that I will refuse to watch for my entire life. Haven't seen but only 5 or 10 seconds of the film, and that was a movie clip of it. I REFUSE to watch that movie.
But however, I wish I could have the 90 minutes of my life back that I wasted on the movie Pi.
Ohh. Can´t be as bad as when I took a friend to see "Bad Guy ". I knew the story and had tried to talk her from it but she insisted...
For me at least, Audition was far more intense than Bad Guy. Have you seen it? In a proper cinema setting?
It's only the second movie where I have seen many people leave the theater because they can't take it. The other movie was from the same director.. Visitor Q.

what is it about the movie that makes you not want to see it? although it thought it had a little too much of a topgun feel to it at times, i thought it was an enjoyable film.

Eh... wasn't so bad if you just download the scene where Monica Bellucci rolls around naked in bed for 15 minutes.

Blackhawk Down. Hated that movie.
Why?
It wasn't fantastic, but I thought it was still slightly better than average.

Haha. I'm reminded of the time I talked a couple friends into coming to watch Audition with me to the cinema and one of them brought a date.

I accidentally rented "Working Girls" instead of "Working Girl", and put it on in front of a mixed Iranian Muslum audience...

Oops.
Written and directed by Lizzie Borden no less.
So now we must start an "akward movie moment" thread and you can cross-post to that one.

The perfect ambush movie.
Crying Freeman
Harry Potter 2 (or was it 3?)
Wow... they just sucked soooooooooooooooo much...
I still use Species 2 with my friends as a benchmark for suckness
oh, and another one I just hated was Lost Highway. I usually like Lynch, but that movie really REALLY pissed me off.

Star wars episode 1 - no actually that's the stupidest film ever made I walked out after 30 min and got my money back.
I don't understand why everybody hates that movie so much. I thought it was great, although it did reach its peak rather early.

I just watched that over the holiday. Man. It was far, far worse than I ever imagined it would be.
