What's funny is that an average Joe buys Sony Blu-Ray player and pops in the free 5th Element BD-DVD and will probably return the player or will leave a bad taste from one of the worst Blu-Ray Disc you can have that doesn't look any better than the superbit SD DVD version. I guess Sony must've prepared this ad more than 3 months ago when it was initially scheduled for June/Juy launch.
Average Joe probably doesn't own 5th Element superbit or otherwise.
vinea you're making too many excuses for sony. ign gives bad reviews now? really? considering how buddy buddy they usually are with sony its funny to see you claim they gave a "bad review"
the 30fps wasnt in that article, ill find it for you though, or better yet go read almost every review of games on ign which says the ps3 doesn't run as smooth as the 360 does but it does have finer details.
you, a long with some other sony fanboys are the only ones i have ever heard complain about 50 dollars a year for the best console online service available. 50 dollars a year! thats comparable to purchasing one crummy ps3 remote.
stop being naive, the xbox live service is of great value and for the money they spent on R&D its hard to imagine anyone giving it away for free. you realize the features sony has added to their service is everything microsoft introduced to the market, spent money and time developing and testing.... come on you're in an apple forum you should know a little about that.
$50 a year for what is free in PC gaming isn't really what I consider "great value". Especially since really the only online game I'm likely to do is head-to-head madden with cousins. Whom I'm likely the one footing the $100 between the two of us to do. At least they will get their money's worth. Sorta.
Excuses for Sony? Please. I just believe in fairness. Both consoles should be pretty cool and equally lame for the gaming that I typically enjoy. MMORPGs and strat games typically play better on a desktop. I'll get whichever next gen console to stay compatible with the kids in the family. Likely I won't have to for a while and the PS2 will soldier on.
Personally I like co-op multiplayer over deathmatch. Probably because my twitch skills are much deteriorated.

PS Heh...the kids are on a WoW kick. That should do wonders for their grades.
Well, Amazon just listed xbox 360 HD-DVD add on. See this thing go off the ranking in the gaming category. I'll bet it would be placed #1 within next two weeks or sooner. It's scheduled for Nov. 7th launch.
Let's see who will sell more to support the Hi-Def Movie format. Don't forget all HD-DVD add ons are for HD-DVD movies and PS-3 will just be potential of BR-DVD movie application.
Not paying money for online play is actually becoming increasingly rare. More and more games are starting to charge for playing them online... I suspect that will become the norm before too long.
And who knows, if the PS3's "free" service really is "free", I could see M$ dropping the price sticker off the gold service after a year or two to compete. The Xbox 720 (patent pending) might have a free service since most of the R&D has already been done.
by end of this year 10million will be sold is the current projection.
there are gamestop employees saying not that many people showed up to preorder
So, even if only 10% of the xbox 360 owners buy the HD-DVD add on, that's still more than what PS3 will be sold by end of the year. Hopefully, that will drive the HD-DVD sales to get Pixar and Disney to support HD-DVD even sooner and I'll have no reason to get BD-DVD player then. I was thinking about picking up Samsung player since many have been able to find them in the $500 range.
I've heard that many HTPC folks are trying to get their hands on the xbox 360 HD-DVD add on and that will probably help driving the HD-DVD sales even more. It's technically a external USB HD-DVD Drive.

i just wonder if it will be a good quality hd-dvd player. for 200 its not bad, but i might just go with a whole new set up for the living room and keep the 360 merely gaming a console
I think anyone of average intelligence can figure out this chart. If you don't want it you don't have to buy it. If something like this bothers you, you must really get upset reading the Sunday paper.

yeah? so much so that microsoft is going to pursue legal action? so much so that multiple sites have wrote about it?
i mean who are you?
this isn't geared towards people "in the know" or anyone that bothers to post on forums either. this might cause issues with those who dont know, parents that dont have a clue about any of this.
stop being retarded, thats just pathetic for sony to do that. it shows they are scared and resorting to misleading charts to sway unsuspecting consumers.
yeah? so much so that microsoft is going to pursue legal action? so much so that multiple sites have wrote about it? . . .
You have a point, but I still don't think it's a big deal. An over zealous marketing department left off a modifier, like, "For what we believe gamer will want in a system, here is how they compare."
Sony will make some changes to their promotional literature and that will be that.
Who knows, maybe Sony did it on purpose to stir up awareness of the issue of what is included and what is not. It certainly has people talking. If Sony comes back and says, "Oh, so sorry; here is what we mean by this," it will blow over and Sony will have made their point. Let's wait a few weeks and see where this issue is then.

If everyone is running out of things to debate, here is a site that offers 10 reasons to wait for the PS3. Are these true or just hype? I'll be interested in reading what you think.

pc gaming is a whole nother beast, stop comparing the two please.
oh wait, i forgot, you're a sony boy, and sony reps have you considering the ps3 to be the next supercomputer
EDIT: sony may not hit its holiday ps3 shipping estimates. "The honest answer is it's more of a target'' for PlayStation 3 shipments, haha nice sony!

comparing pc gaming to console gaming is like the old apples and oranges analogy.

No, what I'm saying is I don't really have a dog in this hunt (ie I prefer PC games to console games).
But I am used to matchmaking and multiplayer not to cost money. Its not a "value added" service.
And I guess I'm a "sony boy" if I don't expect the PS3 or BR to suck without having test driven them first.

BTW, how many xbox 360 have been sold in US alone?
Okay.... one day after being listed on Amazon for pre-order, HD-DVD add on ranks #27 where PS3 (60GB version) still ranks over 20,000.

But it's true. The PS3 is way cheaper than the XBOX for this very reason.
For the high end XBOX, you only get a 20 GB hard disk. That's the same as the LOW end PS3, only WITHOUT a next-gen optical drive.
The PS3 is a far better value for the money, hands down.

Holy shit. Seven controllers? I didn't know that was coming. That is amazing.
While before I was just taunting Elixir because I have a 360 and it pretty much sucks, now I think I AM a Sony fanboy :P
If only the PS3 had more fun multiplayer games like Mario Kart. I don't think I've ever played a multiplayer game on a non-Nintendo system.

you are a fanboy, exactly what does 7 controllers do for you? lmao
i can barely stand 3 people playing on one tv but i guess its because i'm used to having a good online community to play on like xbox live.
and yeah that article is very very old, the media has swayed significantly the other way

Um, not have to have some of my friends just sit on the couch and watch?
You do have more than 3 friends, right?
