I wouldn't expect a new computer, but something from their iPod line would be a reasonable guess. I would think that if they were going to do introduce something along these lines it would be a good venue to anounce something totally new, like the media center concept, as an expanded part of the iPod (non-computer related entertainment peripherials).
Something that I do find noteworthy in Tuesdays anouncement is the lack of the 1.6 Ghz Core Duo for the MacBook. Apple has room to use it and could have kept the $999 entry model, but they opted to have a higher power bottom end computer with a higher price point, and not long before the back to school buying season, not something that you want to do if you are trying to attract consumers to your product. There has to be a reason for this, we have now seen two product lines essentially get a price increase as they switched to Intel processors. It also took a long time to release the MacBook compared to the others when it is essentially a scaled down version of a computer that they released at the beginning of the year. My guess would be limited inventory available, especially on the low end which could point to better than expected volume of the faster chips. This also seems to indicate that there was no price drop for the chips that were rumored a while ago, becouse if they were then one would expect that Apple could keep the $999 entry price, and have room to reduce the price of the MacMini to it's $499 entry price.
Also of note, there is now a black MacBook available, this points to at least a minor update by the end of the summer for the iMac to bring the new plastic into line with the MacBook.
Fung! After going to bed my usual 3 to 4 am. I had to get up at 7.30, because I had time-Warner coming over to fix my cable problem. just got through with that, though I don't know if they fixed it, because as I had told them, it happens at night. I did miss an important delivery however, while we were in the garage for the five minutes it took for him to change a connection that didn't need changing, so I guess it was worthwhile.
Huh? The press event is RIGHT NOW. The opening is tomorrow morning
That's strange, because everything that I read just mentioned Friday, the 19th. I just assumed that the press, and the opening, would be the same day. First the press, then the opening.

So maybe I can get there for pics after all.
