Quicken was listed as bundled with the previous iMac and is still listed as shipping with the refurbished iMacs. It was also bundled with the Cube. It did not ship with the Mini. It no longer appears to be shipping with any Macs, though the MacBook Pro still lists QuickBooks for Mac New User Edition as shipping with the bundled software. I wonder if there is a UB version of Quicken coming next week, or if Apple didn't feel they it was worth it to include it in the bundle?
Yes you can and any other wireless iLife bearing Mac. You'll need to get the wireless connection kit for the XBox 360... Have been using it and i works well.
Connect360 automatically indexes your iTunes and iPhoto libraries and shares them to your Xbox 360. You can then use the Xbox 360 Dashboard to browse and play your media, organized in the exact same way that it is on your Mac.
Apple is very clever with the cheap $999 iMac. It has a slower processor, less RAM, no bluetooth, no Superdrive, no remote and an Intel GMA graphics card. The next iMac up (for $1199) includes all that. Is anyone actually going to buy the crippled $999 version? It allows them to advertize a cheaper price and cash in.
Wait, aren't these the same entry-level iMacs that were geared to students?
One of you dorks could have called me and told me the great news! I go all day thinking, dang, I have to wait until the 12th to order a new iMac. It is 1:39 pm eastern time and I just freekn found out. Once I find my wallet, hello 24" max'd to the hilton!
Why would anybody think it's a Conroe in the first place? Doesn't make any sense...
In the first place the iMac is the Apple desktop and not Apples laptop. A Merom is intels laptop processor, and Conroe is meant for desktops.
I think that could have something to do with it. Apple is bottom feeding to lower prices, but they are loosing specs. Apparently they now believe that iMac is no longer in the spec range of the typical desktop. PC desktop wins this round, but we shall see how much the average consumer thinks he really needs.
Is it me, or do you find it surprising that Apple just announced these "out of the blue" and not at some media event? Sure there were rumors about new iMacs, there always are, but sheesh ..... maybe I'm getting old ...

Yeah, I agree. I got the feeling that Apple wanted to realease new hardware for next week's announcement. That way the focus next week is on the iTunes-movie service and related services/gadgets.
I can't be positive but it seems that they've changed the free printer deal too...
Because a few weeks back I configured a nice printer and it would've been free and now there are only two printers in the last that come out completely free and neither is the one I was looking at.

What does Picasa do for you that iPhoto doesn't? Don't get me wrong, both are nice programs in my opinion. They are mostly equivalent that I can tell, so I haven't found a stand-out feature in Picasa to justify using it on a Mac.
I've been playing with iPhoto quite a bit lately. You're right in saying that the two programs offer similar features. Here's what I like about Picasa:
1. When Picasa imports photos, it respects the folder structure that I use. It uses the folder names to a
automatically categorize the photos (similar to iPhoto albums, but it's automatic).
2. Picasa is extremely fast in starting up - even when it is managing many thousands of photos.
3. In a similar vein, Picasa is very fast in rendering thumbnails (again, even with thousands of photos).
4. Photo editing and tuning is a lot easier. The UI is simpler and more readily available.
5. Picasa integrates with a wider variety of photo printing vendors.
6. The labeling and search functionality in Picasa *seems* better (although I haven't focused much attention looking at iPhotos capabilities here yet).
7. Picasa is offering free hosting for a reasonable number of photos (I think you get 250MB at no charge).
I like iPhoto quite a lot, but I think Picasa has it beat for the moment.
My approach to using Picasa has been to use Parallels to run Win XP. I then tell OS X to allow file sharing. Lastly, I installed Bonjour on Win XP and set up a fixed drive letter to point to where my photos are on the Mac. Works very nicely.
HUH?? The Eye TV Hybrid, which I ordered for $150 does 720p or 1080i on digital or analog inputs. It has coaxial-in, and a component-to-coax converter cable (which also does S-video to coax). What's the hang-up?
I do not believe you understand the spec sheet for the EyeTV Hybrid or what the Hybrid is.
It does NOT have a component input (req'd for HD from the Xbox 360). It has composite and S-Video inputs only. Neither of those are HD capable, therefore by connecting an Xbox 360 to the Hybrid, you lose the HD output capability of the Xbox 360.
In the first place the iMac is the Apple desktop and not Apples laptop. A Merom is intels laptop processor, and Conroe is meant for desktops.
The Intel Core Duo has proven itself as a processor in the previous gen iMac and Minis. Whether or not it's sold as a desktop or mobile CPU is inconsequential.

How do you figure? They released the fastest iMacs to date today. Where are they losing specs?

Huh? Do you think every current PC today sells with a Conroe processor? I'm sorry, sir, but they do not.

No they don't. You're getting your panties in a bunch over absolutely nothing.

Quickbooks or Quicken have never shipped with the iMac, Mac Mini or iBook/MacBook. Only the Pro models get it. OmniOutliner in the iMac is new though.
That's not correct. Quicken has been included with the consumer line for a long time.
Could Apple be considering bundling iBank with the consumer line instead?
Just ordered a 24" iMac... lucky me, I sold my 20" iMac yesterday ;0

WTF??
You can't order the old iMacs from Apple, and the new iMacs aren't covered. So basically I don't get a free iPod anymore. What the freakin' HELL.

Hopefully we will get the long awaited 6G iPod.

Do you have an apple store or college store you could try? I'd bet some of those still have them in stock.
Personally, I'd rather get one of the new boxes, save a hundred bucks and get a faster CPU instead of the other $79 towards an iPod.

The MacBooks, an entirely new notebook from Apple, were announced "out of the blue" without an event. This was just an update to an existing product.
This was all great news until I read this: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Im...s/bts_faq.html

the deal ended on the 16th right?
My bet is they're definitely unvieling new ipod(s) on the 12th and don't want to give them away free.
...maybe because they're wireless? or double storage capacity?
I'm hoping for the 6G video.

Apparently, not anymore.

Never had a copy here in either iBooks, iMacs or eMacs since 2001. Perhaps it's a USA thing only?
