BD mostly being the PS3 owners focussed on atypical genre as where HD-DVD crowds are little more spreadout.
Yeah, that must be why Planet Earth for Blu-ray is #2 on the chart above while it's #6 on HD DVD. You may want to stop sharing Walter's drugs. BTW, who's Nelson?
As promised, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment unveiled the full specs for 'Spider-Man 3' on both Blu-ray and DVD this morning, and from the looks of it, this highly anticipated title isn't likely to disappoint fans.
As we originally reported late yesterday, Sony has set an October 30 Blu-ray release date for both the two-disc 'Spider-Man 3' special edition, as well as the 'Spider-Man: The High-Definition Trilogy' box set.
This morning, the studio issued complete specs for 'Spider-Man 3' via press release (which can be read in full here). Among the extensive extras planned are two audio commentaries with the filmmakers, eleven making-of featurettes, bloopers, photo galleries, a Snow Patrol music video and a gallery of TV spots from around the world.
Tech specs for the Blu-ray edition include 1080p video and both uncompressed PCM and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround tracks.
Retail price for 'Spider-Man 3' on Blu-ray is $49.95.
Sony has also announced 'Spider-Man: The High-Definition Trilogy,' a box set containing all three films in the 'Spider-Man' franchise. No additional specs are provided in the press release -- only a retail price of $99.98. We expect further details to be revealed in the coming days. Stay tuned!
Oh happy October! This one will be quite the release.

Hahahahaha. Don't worry about Nelson, he's inconsequential. He's full of nonsense.
The Spider Man pricing is totally unreal. This is the bad old days of laserdisc pricing all over again and another sign that the studios are shooting themselves in the foot again. It's almost as if the studios have given up on HD ever being a consumer product. For many J6Ps prices like that further reinforces the idea that SD-DVD is good enough.
I can already see the lineup for Blu-ray during the holidays...
The Matrix
Spiderman
Spiderman II
Spiderman III
Cars
V for Vendetta
Batman Begins
Live Free Die Hard
Fantastic Four 2
Harry Potter
Now that's what I call an awesome 10! I could totally see all of these as the top 10 high def movies, blanking HD DVD totally. What are they going to put up against these? They best have something up their sleeve, otherwise Blu-ray is going to go for the kill.
Spiderman, the first two were good, the last one was a joke. While I'd like to see the first two make it to HD DVD, I know that will never happen. Live Free and Fantastic Four are both Fox movies...have they put anything out yet? It seems like everytime I check, they are announcing to be releasing soon. Always waiting for something (next AACS, BD+, etc). AACS is done for, so waiting around for that is pointless. As far as BD+ is concerned, some guy was quoted as saying it will last for 10 years. The doom9 forums had a chuckle over that one, and can't wait to get their hands on a disk and get it freed.
The 4 best movies on that list are already out and available for HD DVD. No need to wait for the holidays

Yawn. Live Free Die Hard is the only one I'll probably buy. If the Harry Potter movie that's shown above is the one in theaters now I might also pick that one up. I already have Cars and Batman Begins and see no need to double dip.

You bring up some really good points. The biggest challenge all the studios have right now is to make the consumers/enthusiasts to double dip. Hence, one format pushes adding extra features and interactivity to make it little more worthy of double dipping.
The Hidef status still being a niche, majority of early adopters/enthusiasts are likely to already own most older titles being released in HiDef and not every enthusiast is replacing their library at the current pricing. Many will just be happy with SD version for now and will likely update the library to HiDef version once the price comes down.... or on a sale..... right around $10/movie or less.
Out of all the Hidef titles being released this year, the must buy/replace titles aren't as many as I would like on both HiDef formats, I'm sure many AV enthusiasts would take a similar approach in rebuilding or adding more to their library and do not buy everything being released.
BTW, I had finally received my 300 in HD-DVD. I had some time to look over the extras/IME features which I was impressed with most, however, the internet feature was merely a advertisement for phone tone & wall paper download service. I'm sure this feature could have been used more wisely than this. At least, Blood Diamond featured something worthy of the internet connectivity and shows better example of the advance features.

Yeesh, reminds me of the DVDs with SPECIAL FEATURES: SCENE ACCESS
I hope that the internet acontent doesnt turn into something so mundane. Which brings me to a question, do the HD-DVD players have wireless acess? I cant imagine using my PS3 "wired up" its amazing how WiFi has changed ones outlook
Oh, and If you could answer my question from above RE: Out of interest what or whos figures would you trust? are there any sales charts/figures you would tout as being believeable? thanks.
32 HD DVD movies and counting. Everytime I buy a HD DVD movie there are others looking for movies. One can certainly see the paradox of a man who owns no HD formats proclaiming the death of either.
To date no one has delivered accurate information about Nielsen/Videscan. What stores aren't counted along with Wal-Mart?

To me, it's not about who or what, but it's more important for me to get the data that reflects the flow of current enthusiasts market(for the time being) and using the correct source of relevant data generated from the relevant source. In this case for HiDef, the data should be generated monitoring the HiDef format content providing retails/online stores, especially ones heavily involved.
Lack of choice does not mean it's narrowed down to a only choice, hence I?m still looking. I?ll come back to your question once I find the credible source.
If you find a summarized sales figures/data involving the major front running HiDef content providing retailers like Fry's, BestBuy, Cirucit City, Amazon, and etc.... let me know.
And...... Nielson isn't it, but you can convince me otherwise with credible market source info.....

Only because the fans saw it in the theater and got their disappointment out of the way early.
BTW, who's Nelson?
Perhaps, another group of BD fanboys?

So...who's winning?
It's more of a question as to who is loosing the least. For the moment and forseeable future SD-DVD is whomping both HD formats.
