I hope this update does fix the freezing problems. My iPhone went into some dark, death-like coma a few days ago. I was sure it just died, it wasn't responding to anything. But, then I tried the hard reboot buttons and it came back to life. wtf?

Now if only Apple would fix all the problems they introduced into the last update to OS X Leopard. My iMac is like a Dell lately. It has to be rebooted once a day, otherwise, it become sluggish and weird shit happens, like Finder decides to restart in the middle of editing a Photoshop file.

And before someone decides to be a smart-ass and tell me to buy a Dell or a Pre....save your vitriol for someone else, like perhaps, tekstud.

On nearly any other platform it wouldn't be a big deal. So I'm hoping adds the ability in either the next major software update, or with new hardware. Because if Apple doesn't, I will be sadly in the market for a phone from a different company (can't say I would miss ATT much though).

or if you're listening to pandora, you have to close out to read email. yet it seems to work find if you're listening to the ipod.

by most accounts, these other smart phones are prone to more crashes than the iPhone. I'll take the stability of the latter, any day. so i have to wait at the most 30 seconds to finish what i am doing, then reply to an SMS? zomg, it's the end of the world!!

multi-tasking between, for example, my japanese dictionary and the pdf notes on my iDisk would be handy, but i'm not crying on the internet every day in every thread i post in about it, now am i?

I for one am happy with the iPhone and it's gradual rate of development rather than cramming in too much, too soon.

fwiw, i never use MMS, never have as it is an absolute rip-off. i just email photos from my phone - same on my old nokia and NEC phones prior to getting an iPhone.

You actually have the audacity to give that response after the ***** that OS 3.0 has been since day one.

You really need to apply as an Apple Tech Support person because you actually believe the line of crap you just spewed.

Better yet, Apple's marketing department. Just give them a little and keep them wanting and paying for more with the "NEXT" phone.

3.1 broke my WiFi and it's still busted under 3.1.2. Can't connect to any WiFi hotspot. It won't even detect the hotspots around my home any more, where before it would fine 2-3 every time.

    Disappointed...

After updating, there is a dialog box asking permission to update the carrier settings. This is different than the carrier settings that enabled MMS.

I had been having trouble with my visual voicemail (read: it stopped working completely) after enabling tethering and then updating to 3.1. I eventually deleted the mobileconfig file I downloaded from benm.at, and visual voicemail was working again. Of course, tethering was gone, but my visual voicemail was more important. Now, I've updated to 3.1.2 and applied the carrier settings afterward. Believe it or not, the tethering option is back! Does this mean AT&T will be enabling tethering very soon? I have yet to try it out, but it is interesting.

I have dramatically increased wifi strength in my house by changing my AirPort Extreme from Ch6 to Ch11.\

Haven't had a wifi drop connection yet.

I've used Channel 11 for years. That's not it. I'm literally 10 feet from my Wireless N router. It won't even detect it or any other WiFi near my house. It's totally borked.

Android and Palm Pre push their updates out FOR FREE OVER THE AIR!

You don't have to hook up to a computer and download a 2-300mb file every time Apple puts out an update.

Get out of your little Apple box and do some research before jumping my ass.

If Apple did the same you will be here whining and screaming about it and how Apple is forcing us to update and bricking your jailbroken iPhones to force you to buy from the app store

If your router doesn't support finding the fastest (or in Apple's Case) the only channel then you need a new router.

Set the channel to automatic. Any router worth the price will have the ability to handle this simple task.

And it doesn't work. I've already gone through this with Apple tech support. Set it to Channel X. No my router finds the best signal. "Read from response" Please sir set the channel to channel X. OK. WiFi just dropped. Have you thought about an Airport Extreme?

It's not the Channel, it's not the router, it's the fricking OS.

Didn't you hear?! The iPhone is number one in customer satisfaction. Maybe you should start whining about number two or three

Quit the dumb ass smiley faces when your slamming someone.

My original iPhone & my 3G iPhone have never been Jail Broke.

So Keep your smart ass comments to something you know (which apparently by your forum comments are praising Steve Jobs and Apple).

Shut the hell up. If I had a Jail Broke Phone I wouldn't be Bitching. I'm using the Apple Software that "JUST WORKS".

In the case of the iPhone it the OS that doesn't "JUST WORK" it "JUST SUCKS" and can't multi task on top of it.

Don't pile your shit on me if you don't know if my phone has been Jail Broken.

Kiss Steve Jobs Ass Good Night, get in your Steve Jobs Jammies and put on your Apple Cartoons and go to bed.

Of course it does. I have another 3G that connects to the very same router without issue. Auto-channel is not a requirement for a 3G or any wireless client to connect to a router.

I guess you missed the part of my comment that says "And it doesn't work".

I am saying if your router doesn't support auto channel selection then you need a new router. You are supposed to "in the non Apple World" you get the fastest channel available. In Apple's Case it doesn't work as I told the Knucle Head Genius I was talking too.

And I guess you missed my reply that said of course it does. My router does support auto channel. Makes no difference if it's on or off. The fact that another 3g connects without issue means the router is fine.

3.1 borked wireless on my phone and it's still not working.

(in response to the quoted text, but not directed toward the angry man)

It’s one thing to prefer or dislike a product, but to keep buying a product that he vehemently despises so much that he continually comes to internet forums just to say how much it sucks despite having to change usernames due to be being banned often for his nasty comments is just plumb crazy. Sane people stop supporting a company that doesn’t make products that suit their needs.

I think he was referring to the complaints that would ensue in general, should Apple start pushing out OTA updates.

Hey that James Taylor song just came on the radio "I bet you think this song is about you".

No Sloppyism, it's a case of fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on you.

I got fooled twice, so in part Sloppyism it's a case of shame on me and I'm pissed that Apple continues to put out Shit OS updates for their iPhone.

I'm not the only one that wants.

    1. A Stable OS to get me through my contract.

    2. Multi Tasking to catch up with the rest of the mobiles OS's on the market.

    3. Not having to hook up to my computer for simple things that should be handled via WiFi or Bluetooth. I travel a lot.

    4. Taking accountability for the countless problems with iPhone OS that, until a Class Action Law suit is filed or the press gets wind of it Apple ignores.

So take your comment and I'm calling you "plum crazy" for being an sheep an putting up with it.

Thankfully I was smart enough to get out of the Mac OS when I entered corporate America. If I had to deal with the Shit of OS Snow Leopard I'd shove my computer up Steve's Ass and have him buy me a PC.
