For me I'd say this release is actually more unstable. I did a full clean install on my g4. While more bug fixes it's the first time I've ever had kernal panics. I saw them several times with pppoe. Several other people are reporting the same.
I think it's either really stable or really crappy. Guess it depends on your computer model.

let's just say that the stuff that i've seen makes me very certain that the same level of spit-and-polish that was present in OS 9 is definitely making a reappearance in Panther.
And, when you switch to the 'classic' finder- toolbar and sidebarless- it's not metal.

There is a method to the metal madness.
Hold the phone, Nancyboy! It changes on the fly like that when you hit the toolbar widget? When it's in "Classic Finder" mode, can you still have the same folder/location open in two windows at the same time? That really seemed to PO the people who went out of their way to do that.
If you set the scrolling speed higher it feels exactly like the beautiful scrolling in Windows XP on my 2ghz Dell workstation with a 64mb video card.
This is on my 600mhz G4 (upgraded) B&W with a 16mb video card.
Also it seems in this build they finally fixed the column views in open/save dialogs. These previously never drilled down right and sometimes would stop drilling down when you clicked on a folder. This has been a bug since the beginning of OS X. With this fix the open and save magically feel 10x more powerful.
Way to go Apple.
This build is very VERY picky about old preferences and old settings from your library. Don't copy stuff over into the new one or you will see plenty of kernel panics.
PPPoe gave me a kernal panic the first time around when it continued to connect trying the wrong password. Once I'm connected my connection is much more stable than previous builds. Previous builds would drop the connection and not be able to reconnect without changing settings in Network.
I also notice I get much faster speeds in speed tests right outta the box. Maybe Apple tweaks the connection settings now?
** DAMN scroll speeds are so fluid even when i have a dialog box like the post window. It is just like windows. Move over the dialog box and it scrolls super fast, move over the page area and the page scrolls just as fast. No more choppiness!

no
see sticky thread
been like that since the first DP

meh, you win... i havent played on my panther macs on account that between me trying to install virtual PC and win XP pro corporate they both are borked...
clean installing both is going to suck considering it will be the 3rd time...

i have no idea-
i think it's the same, but stripey. so as to convey the sense that 'hey, it's different' to those luddites.
Remember that my first "complete" set of snapshots can be found on page 3 and page 8 of the old "Panther Requests" thread for images from the WWDC build. The images I post here will just be of things that have changed since the previous build or things that I missed before.

Is the latest Finder build metal or isn't it? I wasn't aware there was more than one version in any of the builds.
Brad, we must have screens immediately!
