Apple issues Mac 'Device Support Update' for restoring iOS, iPadOS devices
Finally I can back up my 5th generation iPad onto my Mac again. It's been a few versions of macOS since I was able to do this. I ended up changing to iCloud backup a few months ago (nothing really important on my iPad) but even after updating to iOS15 it still wouldn't back up to my Mac (gave error saying it couldn't). Installed this update and now it backs up again. Don't know what Apple did but it works for me!
Haven't had problems with any of my iPhones backing up locally, just my iPad. -
EU pressing on with USB-C charger legislation on Thursday
The EU can do whatever they want to but the metric system is not the standard in the US and I doubt there will ever be a single world-wide standard for much of anything. USB is an Intel standard, meaning the EU is defining a no-substitute requirement for mobile phone chargers. I have to wonder how much Intel is bribing the EU. If Apple goes with a mag-safe charger and no physical charging port, I bet the EU will complain and try and sue Apple to provide a physical charging port. -
Apple thought low-cost TV dongle would ruin its premium reputation
jgreg728 said:They don't need to make a cheap dongle. Just lower the freaking price of their HD box already. No reason for that 5 year old piece of hardware to still cost anything above $80, let alone $150.
Checked and I can use this image for non-commercial usage. -
Windows 11 launching on October 5 in phased rollout
When will Windows 11 ARM be officially released? Microsoft has been continuously updating it so I don't think it's just a hobbyOS. It actually installs, loads and runs a lot better on my M1 MBA than Windows 11 x86 runs on my iMac.sflocal said:Do you update to every new MacOS release? If so, do you "have to" or "want to" even though for many it doesn't really add anything to compel many? -
T-Mobile CEO 'sorry' for data breach that affected 54 million users
Sorry? That doesn't cut it. If you're the CEO of a major company with tons of customer information, you should be drafting a letter of resignation. There's no excuse for this to have happened under your (lack of) watch. Offering free identity protection services is a joke.
News from other sources:
FireEye is one of the biggest firms in the global infosec market and is one of the US government’s go-to consultancies. This proved to be a drawback last year when Russian spies infiltrated the firm via its supplier SolarWinds, causing widespread headaches across the US public sector. (FireEye sold to McAfee's new owners for $1.2bn as Mandiant split into standalone firm again).
Did a search for KPMG LLG and it only returns other articles talking about this subject. There is a KPMG LLP so what is this company's actual name? I found a reference to KPMG LLG that pointed to a person who lists the company as KPMG LLP under Linkedin as:Charles Riepenhoff, Jr.Managing Director at KPMG LLP
