  • Early Geekbench scores show M4 Pro may outpace Mac Pro with M2 Ultra

I've been holding out until I could buy a machine that met or exceeded my current eGPU Metal score of 197,420.  It appears from the "leaked benchmarks" that the new M4 Max MBP can do just that, or comes very close (195,781 is the highest I see.)  So the dilemma I face is to buy the M4 Max MBP now, or wait for the M4 Max Studio sometime in the next 8 months or so.

  • M4 Pro Mac mini vs M1 Max Mac Studio compared: Smaller and better

It seems quite silly that Apple hasn't updated the Studio since the M2 came out.  At the very least, they should have released an M4 Max Studio along with the MBPs yesterday.   If I want an M4 Max now, I have to buy a MBP.  Or wait some indeterminate amount of time to get the M4 Max Studio. Perhaps a M4 Mac Mini Pro is really good enough.

  • Apple takes a three-day week for its Mac launches

What I think I want is an M4 Max.  Since Apple has chosen not to release the M4 Max Studio before the M4 Ultra Studio is ready, the only choice is to buy a MBP, which I neither need nor want.  This is for exclusive desktop use.   I'd hate to pay for a display that I'll never use.  But I DO like the 40 GPU cores on the Max.

  • Amazon leaks redesigned Mac mini with M4 Pro

The Studio looks sad on this graph, being M2 series.

Yeah, anybody buying a Studio now needs to have their head examined.  I just don't understand why Apple does what they do...  Yes, I know an M4 Studio is coming, but I thought an M3 Studio was also coming, and never did...

  • Apple is readied for an entire week of M4 Mac announcements

Really only interested in the Mac Studio. No other machines support enough RAM.

At the very least they should release an M4 Studio Max immediately, especially since there was never an M3 Studio Max.  Waiting for the "Ultra" chip to be available seems unnecessary.  I neither need nor want an M4-based MacBook Pro.  I'm trying to replace my aging 2017 iMac Pro, which has served me well for the last 7 years.  But my M4 iPad Pro can outperform it!  The "current" MBP is $6000 with maximum core count, 128GB of RAM, and 4TB of disk.  I'm guessing the new one will be similarly priced.
