Apple TV+ is losing billions of dollars -- as planned and expected
nerdrage said:This is a rare article that actually tries to suss out what Apple is doing with AppleTV+. Clearly they're not chasing total subscriber numbers. If they were, just buy Netflix and rename it AppleTV+. Boom, now you're the market leader. Or if that's too pricey, start churning out the same tsunami of crap that Netflix does. True crime, romcom, heists, 70 shows about serial killers etc. Can't be that hard to mimic. The fact that Apple has spent years doing the opposite means they have some other strategy entirely. Using AppleTV+ as a loss leader to boost Apple One subscriptions is one possibility.Apple is supposedly losing billions of dollars, buying Netflix or Movie/TV company and doing the Blizzard games dance like Microsoft isn’t gonna make Apple more profitable, buying a content company is a waste of money because all the talent goes away once the game or the movie is done you are effect doubling your losses,….
Apple probably did it the best way you can starting from the ground up, the problem with that it takes a lot of time and even at the end of it you still are not gonna have the results you want particularly from a company like Apple, that expects large margins, but the way they did it was probably as good as it’s gonna get, for every movie or TV show you make there are probably five or six bad ones not even Apple can change those odds, which are about the same in the AAA gaming industry. Note the book and the record industries also have about the same odds. -
What to expect from the M5 MacBook Pro, and when to expect it
9secondkox2 said:M5 will still be 3nm I believe.Really curious to see how the 2nm m6 stacks up to the m4 and m5 generation.Still pretty bummed about m3 ultra instead of current gen - especially in terms of GPU performance. Pretty lame decision. I thought the m3 chips were produced on a more expensive, less reliable version of the 3nm process. The GPU performance isn’t as good as maybe it could be however it is far from being bad, not in comparison to the actual numbers they are actually very good and the true measure of the M3 ultra will be solidified when more AI benchmarks are released from more reviewers. There is a bright future for Apple Silicon take a look at this link, the ultra M3 Mac Studio debuted at number 12 on the blender benchmark test 40 positions higher than the ultra M2 Mac Studio released one generation ago.
What this chart can’t show is the fact that the energy efficiency of the Apple Silicon chips are second to none at this time, most of the chips (Nvidia) featured on this list require 1000 watts or more, the Apple Silicon chips require less than 140 watts for everything CPU/SOC and GPU…. in comparison to their competition Apple has a huge amount of legroom to upgrade/expand their performance.
Apple is in striking distance of the top in one or two generations with M5 or M6. (The size of the memory and the bandwidth possible is going to be outrageous and the outrage from the competition will be priceless. (I would also say that Apple Silicon can run most of the modern games very well however it’s just not supported because the AAA game companies think the Mac market is too small to bother but the capability is there).

iPhone fold report resurrects decade-old liquid metal component rumor
Another way to think of liquid metal is, what is the Apple spin? What does Apple have in mind? What do they plan to do that will go one step beyond their competition (no different than their curated monitors). The rest of the PC world has standardize on the cheaper 4K monitors @ 120Hz while Apple keeps pushing ahead with higher resolution monitors 4.5K and above, which by the way require more information to be pushed down the pipeline hence the upgrade to thunderbolt five.Remember Samsung (shrinking margins) did not want to bother with tandem Oled, but LG who got 3/4 of Apples orders for the iPad did. Samsung probably was concerned that they would not be able to put it into their tablets because no one would buy them at least not at a higher prices Apple their competitor could command Samsung wanted a little EU competition favor from Apple in short, let’s stay even with each other. -
Apple may be reconsidering an all-plastic Apple Watch SE
Don’t waste the time Apple most of the internals are gonna have to be the same as the regular Apple Watch making it in plastic sounds like a good idea, but it’s probably not.Previous customers should just hand down regift as a parent or grandparent (which is happening quite a bit) your older Apple watch, no different than regifting, an older iPad or iPhone. -
