Mac Studio gets an update to M4 Max or M3 Ultra
netrox said:The fact that M3 Ultra now support up to 512 GB RAM is pretty amazing. It's great for large scale LLMs. Ultra 2 would only support 192GB at max.The support for 512 gigs of UMA memory is the most important aspect of this new Mac Studio, I find it interesting through the course of most of the last year and a half many tech people (You-tubers) complained about the lack of Apple memory in some systems, but now that they’re offering a hellacious amount of memory, the same bunch will still complain, and yes, that memory will cost you but so what the most important fact is that it’s available for power user’s if they choose to buy one or many. -
Mac Studio gets an update to M4 Max or M3 Ultra
spliceguys said:Came up super short without an Apple M4 ultra.Actually, your comment is super short, particularly since no one has their hands on one yet to test it. It is surprising (curved ball ) however that it’s an M3 ultra Variant instead of an M4 Ultra however, the competition is not even close to 256 gigs or 512 gigs of UMA memory, operating silently as the grave on your desk.
The important thing is whether or not Apple is using these as servers for Apple Intelligence, and I assume they are using (actively developing) software to allow the networking of two, four, six, or eight of these Mac Studios together as one, 512 gigs of memory with thunderbolt 5, big bandwidth (at low wattage) once again where is the competition with that combination? The ultimate key for the success of the system is the software support Apple needs to develop for supporting themselves and developers in AI modeling area of computing going forward.

Don't expect cheaper iCloud storage as Apple wins another monopoly lawsuit
harry102 said:It seems like the Judge doesn't fully understand how Apple limits rivals' opportunity to take a share from Apple, even though she mentioned it in this quote. Other cloud storage providers simply cannot offer the same integration as iCloud does. Say if Google offered a cheaper storage solution than apple with all the same functionality I am sure many would jump to it. And to be clear Google does offer cloud storage like google drive for instance, but does that integrate with Apple devices and let your store your imessages, device backups, icloud mail etc.Judge Lee said, however, that Apple was not violating federal or state antitrust laws. Specifically, she said that users were not required to purchase iCloud storage, and that the case did not demonstrate that Apple is a monopoly.
"[If] anything, Apple's allegedly high prices would incentivize rivals to increase production to take share from Apple," said Judge Lee in her ruling.
The plaintiffs appear to have chiefly concentrated on how iCloud is used for storage, but the service has other key uses. It's behind the syncing of photos, videos, and other user data, for instance, and third-party rivals can't replace that.
Alteratively does Apple provide an easy way to sync your ios device to a computer if I don't want to pay for iCloud. If I am in proximity to my Mac with my iPhone why can these two devices not sync between easy other automatically?Bottom line Apple does not force you to use iCloud. It is just a courtesy service that Apple provides, I will never understood why anyone would store their personal files pictures, video, and document files on someone else’s computer even with encryption, because outside agencies want access i.e. the British government….
The argument that Apple is a monopoly or has Monopoly in the marketplace anywhere is ridiculous in the world of technology Apple, can’t be a monopoly unless you (make up) define a monopoly as being a monopoly of your own product (basically of yourself), but having the most profitable best product? In the general marketplace doesn’t make you a monopoly i.e. making the best sports car Porsche? or the best traditional watch Rolex? does not mean you have a monopoly in the marketplace no matter how good that product may be over many other existing products in the marketplace. -
iOS 19 rumor roundup: What's expected in the fall update
libertyandfree said:At this point Siri has to be an embarrassment to Apple. It seems to be so far behind and slipping even further by the month. It’s so strange since it began with a large lead. This doesn’t bode well for Apple software development.I want Robbie the robot AI? Sure, it’s behind the competition not, one test I would like to see in the future on mobile and on desktop systems is what happens when you turn off the internet connection and then test the so-called AI capabilities of the systems Apple is in competition with? Apple software/hardware development certainly is easily better than the competition. Why because Apple controls the OS and the hardware Microsoft is missing in action in mobile tablets, watches and headgear and even has third parties in the kernel to boot, Samsung has no In-house OS, and no in-house SOC in their mobile devices in the USA (their flagship phones SOC (made by Qualcomm which are barely ahead of the Apple 12 series which is 5 years old), Googles flagship phone has an SOC that’s six years behind Apple (which is just behind the 11 series Pro iPhone, and no desktop or tablet OS or computers worth talking about, but it’s Apple that’s doomed and behind sure….https://browser.geekbench.com/mobile-benchmarks Apple is years ahead and just about every area, SOC/tablet/desktop/watch and even further ahead in SOC hardware/ OS software integration, across mobile/desktop/headgear/watches. The competition has released bits and pieces of Me-too gear combined with even worse software integration thru the years.

Apple's iPhone Fold is creeping closer - what the rumor mill says is coming

We have unlimited access to Perplexity Pro and she doesn't use that either.
Folding phones have a huge selling point: the folding part. It's safe to say 100% of folding phones are sold on that feature.
At first glance I'd say that I never use Siri, but then if I think about it for a microsecond I realize that I do, especially while driving with CarPlay enabled. The technology is best when it's integrated so you don't even realize you're using it.All the things you just mentioned people may use them here and there, but they don’t think of it as Apple Intelligence or AI or anything. It just hangs in the background and they use it from time to time in the end I think that’s what Apple is aiming for, something that you use that stays out of the way until you need it. And that’s fine with me.
Many people seem to expect Robbie the robot or some type of Steven Spielberg AI, that may happen decades down the road, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen anytime in the next 10 years…… But I do believe that whoever gets to that point has to be the master of both in house hardware and software and there aren’t that many companies out there right now that’s closer than Apple right now doesn’t mean there aren’t gonna be other companies, but most of the current competition aren’t close.
For example progress (iteration) is relatively slow one baby step was taken by Apple with the design of the C1 Apple modem, because if there is any chance of miniaturizing the Vision Pro or designing new smaller devices that are energy efficient and integrated through OS software.
