  • Japan law will require Apple to allow alternate iPhone app stores

I wonder if anyone at Apple has been paying attention to what Reddit did recently?  How much will it cost for developers that don't use the Apple App Store to use the APIs that Apple has developed?
Reddit is simply charging the cost of using their infrastructure, no more freebies.

  • EU proposes breaking up Google over anti-competition concerns

So, is the following description of the problem valid?

Google controls the search so it controls the showing of ads (inside search).  Google controls the actual ad company.   Google controls the intermediary who is supposed to broker the ads and their placement.   So Google control all the various pieces that have to talk to each other , and they also control the data associated with use of the ads.   So there is no real competition.

Sound like the old company store/company town. You get a job and have to live in company sold/leased housing and you have to shop in company supplied stores.

And last, but not least Google pays Apple 10 to 15,000,000,000 billion dollars per year for the default search position on iOS and macOS, if the EU wants to do anything useful, why don’t they eliminate that greasy deal, and if they are really concerned about the so-called gatekeepers, their definition, and if they want real competition, eliminate the gate keepers, particularly Microsoft and Google from camping out on another gate keepers territory, in short, make them actually have to compete with each other.

Definition gatekeeper is a creator of an OS and an ecosystem, if you possess/create/have a OS an ecosystem you can’t camp out in the other gate keepers, yard. Affectively, killing crushing small developers and mid-level developers, (it will never be enforced).

Note: How little Apple camps out in the other gate keepers yards…..

A actual developer perspective on the new Apple Vision Pro device/ecosystem, gives perspective of why Apple is way ahead of the gatekeeper competition.

This is another Apple buying opportunity, just that simple. Most people are still in the dark about the Apple Vision Pro……. But Zuckerberg isn’t he is slowly coming to the realization that the Quest is over.
I don’t think Quest is over. Just as cheap Android phones and cheap Windows PCs have a place in the market, so will cheap VR solutions.

Neither the Meta nor Quest branding will be what buyers look to for state of the art VR solutions, and Meta will now (likely) never be able to corner the market ifor high-end  VR or AR, bo matter how much money they throw at it while Apple gets a healthy profit from their investment and likely the only company making it a viable product, which will just further more advancements for Apple.

if anything, Quest will get a sales boost BECAUSE of Apple Vision Pro as it puts a spotlight on VR. The same happened to the Blackberry. It was clearly the beginning of the end for them, but they had they had their best sales AFTER the iPhone was on the market. Partially because they were pushing their clearly inferior products to carriers almost nothing, but also because it put a spotlight on the smartphone market.

It’s really over see attached the Quest is dead.

  • Apple's live events are probably a thing of the past, and that's sad

Live is always better someone in the future who has charisma, if they end up at the top of the pyramid at Apple, you will see a live event again, nothing can compare to someone who has the ability to speak in person, Steve Jobs was just a master of it.
