  • Apple narrows iOS loyalty rate gap with Android in Q3, retention rates at all-time high

For my personal preferences (privacy, security, ease of use, top notch tech support including in local Apple Stores, smooth response, 5+ years of OS updates, & a blended ecosystem with the Watch, Apple TV & the Mac), I choose the iPhone.

Another person could care about none of those things & pick Android phones as well as Google services.
That’s fine with me because we have the privilege to choose.

Fortunately, the smartphone market gives the user the choice of the Apple approach & the Google/Android approach.

    A better headline would be

Photography expert explains iPhone XS 'beautygate,'

I don't see how this explanation debunks the problem
I agree. I am sure for the vast majority of photos it isn’t a pr9blem. But every now and again the noise reduction overdoes it. The software needs a bit more tweaking
That’s how I see it. An iOS software update can adjust noise reduction.
And I appreciate AI interviewing someone who has expertise in photography to discuss what the Xs camera software is doing.

I am much less impressed by some people pulling in YouTube channels which make money by trashing Apple products.
YT channels which get views by bashing Apple are extremely biased in the selection of content and are worthless imo in comparing the performance of tech across different OEMs.

  • Photo smackdown: iPhone XS Max versus Samsung's Galaxy Note 9

    Photo Detail Comparison

Now let's compare detail without using Portrait or Live focus modes.

In this shot of a flower, both photos look very detailed, but it seems that the Note 9 either has more contrast or it's more detailed compared to the XS Max. You'll have to decide for yourself which photo you think is better at color reproduction.

iPhone XS Max vs Galaxy Note 9

Which flower is the correct one? Since any image processing cannot add missing data (but can well discard existing and useful data as in low dynamic range), one can immediately deduce that the prominent pink on the flower leaves cannot be added by iPhone, but simply reproduced by it. Thus the correct color of the flower is the right (iPhone) one. The low dynamic range of the Note 9 introduces an artifical contrast which makes the object appear more "detailed". What is is perceived as "detail" is in fact the the loss of pink tones.
The reader does not know which photo has the correct color because there is no reference image from a pro level camera.

Except for being a slab that Jobs said nobody would want.
Are you suggesting that if Jobs were still alive and running Apple that they'd still only be making iPhones with 3.5" displays? Let's be clear that Jobs was notorious for saying something as subterfuge and/or changing his mind latter. One such example is the iPod that could play videos, which I think was the next release after his infamous statement. So, if Jobs has a penchant for making such statements then why bring him up 7 years after his death as proof of anything?
Good points. Another example of Jobs changing his mind is with 3rd party apps on the iPhone. At first he didn’t want that. Obviously he later came to a different conclusion.

Tim Cook has said that Jobs was very open to new ideas and was flexible in changing his POV.

The snarky claims that Steve Jobs would never change his positions on tech is nonsense.

  • Apple sticking to family-friendly video efforts to avoid offense from viewers

The Hip-Hop audio they stream is more offensive than anything on HBO, Showtime or Netflix.

Apple should get out of- and stay out of- content.
    A strawman argument.
    - There is a difference between producing content and having a streaming platform which distributes content produced by other companies/studios.
    - Apple Music right now is a streaming platform which distributes other company’s/studio’s music content.
    - Apple TV has software which distributes video content produced by other companies/studios.

    * What is new in this article is that Apple will be producing its own video content.
    - That is the difference from all the other content Apple has distributed before.
    - Apple will be making its own content and will become a movie / TV studio.
    - To claim that content made by other companies is = to Apple creating content is a strawman.
