  • Breaking down the Coalition for App Fairness' issues with Apple

Had this been a bill of rights for what consumers are allowed to do with their computers (including smart phones) I would be all for it. Instead it is a list of demands from greedy developers.
As an owner of a computer you have the right to:
Operate it however you wish. Apple cannot restrict how you the owner use the device you purchased.
Repair it. Apple cannot require that you return your device to them for repair.
Run any software you wish on it. Apple cannot prevent you from installing any software, even a third party app store, on your device as long as you know and accept the risks.
Develop code for it. Apple cannot prevent you from using any software or hardware feature of your device if you can find a way to do it.
You own the hardware, not the software. Like it or not you only own a license to use Apple’s software (including the operating system). You are welcome to write your own operating system and then do with it how you please.

  • Judge temporarily halts Trump administration's TikTok ban

"Show us your Facts please Mr.  President"
"Uhh,  what are those?   What are facts?   We don't need no stinkin facts!    Never liked them.   Never used them.   Lies and smear campaigns are better than truth and facts any day!"
Yes, because a president is not privy to more information than the average citizen. And in the unlikely event a president knows something the citizens don’t, he is obligated to tell them everything. If he doesn’t tell them everything, perhaps because every single president in the history of the US knows that certain information is not suitable for public awareness, then it’s basically the same thing as the president not having any reason.

The thing that concerns me is not a TikTok ban but that so many politicians and organisations and citizens are wilfully blind toward China’s government, despite there being overwhelming evidence that they are not passive and innocent and are a real threat to the US.

This article justified my comments in the AI  TikTok article, https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/09/18/president-trump-set-to-scuttle-tiktok-oracle-deal. I know this is old news but how is it any different than what TikTok is being accused of? Of wait, Facebook is shielded from any wrongdoings by Trump.
I don’t get it ... are you saying that Trump is protecting Facebook? Do you really not know that Facebook (and YouTube, and Twitter, etc.) clearly fact checks/censors data which is more likely to support Trump, while allowing data with the same level of deception to pass if it’s more likely to oppose Trump? Are you really unaware of the severe and shameful double standard ‘the left’ has been using, and apparently succeeding through mass manipulation? Open your eyes and learn to think for yourself rather than just believe what you’re told by those who are deceiving you.

  • Facebook accuses Apple of anticompetitive behavior in EU antitrust filing

Facebook, who often ‘fact checks’ and censors some speech they disagree with, but then allows other speech to remain which is just as (or more) inaccurate but aligns with their own viewpoint, accusing Apple of using their position to unfairly affect and influence others. Right...

    It’s called deflection.

Companies like Facebook and Twitter have become too big for the services they offer, because they can far too easily influence public perception. No person or business should ever have that large of scope over what the public is ‘allowed’ to hear or what they ‘should’ hear.

  • Next iPad may look more like an iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard support

I think iPad OS needs A better multi-window management system. While the current slide-in, pop-over options are an improvement over what we had, it’s only slightly better than the old modal method. Also the core Mail and Contacts apps are dumbed down from their desktop equivalents. There’s tasks I do o a somewhat regular basis in those apps that requires me to go to one of my Mac OS machines. I wish there was a paste as text feature, and finally I’m ready for a clipboard manager. For as much as Apple brags about security I think it’s a shame we’re forced to rely on third party options for this feature.

I’m sure others may not consider these “pro” features by their definition, but I believe they are things Apple needs to improve.
It sounds like you actually want a macOS computer but think you want an iPad...

The primary benefit of an iPad isn’t the size but rather the simplicity while still allowing powerful functions. We’ve all been reading for years how the iPad needs this or that to be ‘Pro’, yet I did 95% of my dissertation in 2011 on the iPad 1 and even got a special mention for how nice it looked (the only part I didn’t do on the iPad was create some figures because at the time there wasn’t an app for that).

Since the beginning people have simply been unwilling to change their perspective of what a computing device is. Rather than working within the beneficial limitations they keep thinking ‘options’ and ‘functionality’ are what make something Pro, and that’s not true.
