  • Apple shuts down Epic Games developer account

    quench said:
So Epic agreed to the contract because they know Apple has an enormous base of customers. Then epic got greedy and thought they could be dishonorable and cheat the company (Apple) that helped them become a worldwide sensation.
epic you suck for your dishonesty, lying to customers when you blamed Apple for the situation that you forced onto itself, stealing from the company that made you extremely wealthy.
I don’t care what quality games you produce, I will not support a greedy, lying, stealing company ever again.
    I'm done with you epic!
This is a perfect description of what Epic is doing, and of my own response too.

I don’t tolerate politicians and media acting like this and I won’t tolerate businesses doing it either. Epic could have just taken Apple to court like honourable people, but they decided to blatantly lie to their customers and to the general public and are working to damage the reputation of another company, and they’re not even doing this for the ‘greater good’ (which wouldn’t justify it to me anyway) but instead for their own selfish gain.

  • Congressman says antitrust hearing confirmed Apple's 'deeply disturbing' behavior

58.78% doesn’t suggest a monopoly, but even if it did that’s not a relevant statistic for this issue.

Someone would have to show how Apple uses their US smartphone marketshare to drive out their competition to establish a case for monopoly. You may think 30% is greedy, or you may want 3rd party app stores to reduce app pricing because you think $1.99 is too expensive for an app (being too young to know how much software used to cost before Apple’s App Store...), but neither of those Apple policies are affecting competition for anyone involved.

  • How U.S. states are using digital contact tracing to stop COVID-19

Dude. Get real. This is the epitome of spying. Only this time by using social engineering to get people to give up their privacy freely.

For years, we have railed against secret location data recording, contacts being uploaded to twitter, etc. and the infamous Obama dinner meeting with the major tech firms.

Apparently, all it takes is a pandemic for people to be fooled into giving up their personal details to the various governments using tech companies as shills...

COVID is real. The need to provide treatment for it is real. But the need to invade peoples lives and privacy is a facade.

They didn't do it with AIDS - which is also worldwide. They don't need to start now - especially with the scary politicians coming up who can't wait to make what is yours - everyone elses.

Hold on to what little control you have. there are many who cannot wait to take it from you. The United States is one of the very last true bastions of freedom. It's worth fighting for tooth and nail.
    Thank you for this.

The US approach to government and freedom is there, in part, because our founders experienced enough in their lives to know that the population is not informed enough to always see the bad people taking power (or to differentiate between the unpopular and the bad).

We have a country full of Americans who have been lulled into comfort, experiencing the (relative) safety our way of governing has provided but not realising where it came from. We as a country are prime to be taken over, and we are in the process of it. We only need to look at those who are wanting to take away our freedoms in the name of some ‘higher’ purpose—some of them are pawns, some are misguided, but some are bad actors.

We need to defend our freedoms even when they seem irrelevant and destructive. Our founders gave their lives for it because they knew the alternative is worse. That wasn’t a one time event—freedom is not a guaranteed permanent condition. We don’t live in a world of ‘basically good’ people.

  • Apple applauds court for denying Epic Games' request to restore 'Fortnite'

Obviously the right decision, and I hope the ‘heads up’ to Apple by the judge that their argument may not be the best one will help in their preparation for the upcoming court case.

Epic has made me lose all respect for them in how they’re handling this. They aren’t pursuing a noble cause as the ‘oppressed‘. They’re being arrogant bullies, thinking they deserve handouts from Apple and that they can do better—if they can do better, then I’d like to see them make a successful operating system with unique devices and develop an ecosystem which people want to pay for. Then their problem is entirely solved. Instead they want to ride on the back of Apple’s hard work and success, and they want to do it for free.

  • Bill Gates suggests tech companies like Apple 'deserve' tough questioning

People don’t seem to recognise how poverty happens, it’s the result of exploitation.
That’s one reason for poverty, but that’s not even the biggest reason. Many people nowadays blind themselves to the fact that all these ‘greedy rich people’ are also creating jobs for the people they’re exploiting. If you take that greedy pursuit away then the jobs will disappear, and those who are being exploited (along with everyone else) will then be worse off. Jobs don’t just appear in order to conform to ‘fairness’.

Everyone benefits from the greedy pursuits of those who make a lot to money. The ideal of socialism, however well meaning, will only ever be a short-lived dream.

That’s not meant as an excuse for the greed or the hilarious hypocrisy of Bill Gates. It’d be great if everyone could share and get along and not be greedy, but that is never ever going to happen in a large society no matter how much we want it.
