  • Pablo Escobar's brother sues Apple for $2.6B, alleges 'lax' iPhone security

Poor dude. “ He was apparently assured by an Apple staffer that it was the most secure device on the market. “ It doesn’t mean “fully” secure in my book.
It doesn’t mean fully secure in any book. No device is fully secure, not even a person’s own brain. Incidentally this is why we should not allow ‘back door’ access to devices, because we can’t make them fully secure even when we’re trying to. Introducing a deliberate vulnerability is beyond stupid.

Unless it was your life saved, or a person you cared very much about. Then there would be no mention of silliness.  🤦‍♂️
No, no single life is worth shutting down the entire country for. That is pure insanity.
Keep in mind the people you’re arguing with are also probably mostly healthy people who think they have a 3-4% chance of dying if they get the coronavirus. They probably have no awareness of the demographics of who actually dies and who needs to be protected and instead have been eating up the fear mongering by the media and their favourite politicians. We could have managed the virus with far more focussed measures without shutting down the economy. And we certainly don’t need tracking apps anymore (they may have been beneficial a couple of months ago).

  • China ready to retaliate against Apple after U.S. moves to ban chip shipments to Huawei

Whatever someone thinks of Trump as president, he’s a very successful businessman and knows how to negotiate far better than anyone of us including our favourite government leaders (anyone wanting to bring up some of Trump’s business failures please spare us your ignorance).

Growth takes sacrifice, sometimes painful, especially in a situation like this where we’re entrenched in problematic ways due to past government leaders not having the business sense or courage to stand up to China’s tactics. Regardless of what you think of Trump’s other policies, we should all be thanking him for having the courage to rock the boat with China.

  • Apple's road back to a $300 share price after the coronavirus changed everything

    Correction...

Covid19 didn’t do anything to the economy. The government’s actions to deal with the population are what has hurt the economy.

We could have very easily not had the extent of the economic shutdown if people took more personal responsibility and were willing to go to the annoying hassle of being ‘clean’. I’ve seen people touching pinpads at the supermarket wearing gloves thinking they’re avoiding the virus, but then use their smartphone and touch their purse and clothing and hair with the same gloves...?

People love to place blame on others for the extent of the outbreak in the US, but the fault lays on the population.

There are a variety of layers of federal, state, county, city, and even charitable assistance for healthcare for people who live in poverty. I know this from experience.
Just because you know people who are covered doesn’t mean everyone, or even most, have that option. I haven’t been able to afford health insurance for the past 24 years. I teach at a university and I’m offered insurance for maybe $200/mo, but my finances are so tight that literally isn’t feasible. My children are covered by a state service but my wife and I don’t qualify.

With that said, I don’t think a national government run health service is correct. I lived in the UK and had a great experience the couple of times I had to use their national health service. But the US is different. We became so successful because of our approach to commerce and freedom and personal responsibility. There are problems for sure which we should aim to fix, but there are problems with every system. You need to pick which problems you want. ‘Socialist’ ideas are the opposite of what made the US so successful and admired by the world (notice how our reputation is diminishing as we abandoned founding principles...).
