  • ACLU warns that Apple COVID-19 contact tracing encroaches on civil liberties

You know what else encroaches on civil liberties? Death. Death encroaches on your civil liberties.
We live in a time where many people, especially the younger generation, have no meaningful understanding of the importance of liberty.

It’s precisely because the US founders experienced the pain of tyranny that they made things the way they did. They would be appalled at those who would willingly give liberty up, and they fought to the death for it.

We need to listen to them because we live relatively easy and spoiled lives. The more we lose touch with the importance of liberty and then willingly give it up for seemingly important things we will eventually find ourselves closer and closer to tyranny. Respect those in office but do not give them the space to abuse their power, and certainly don’t invite them to.

  • Apple & Google's contact tracing won't stop COVID-19, but it will help

That's great! But there is still a need to make some groups of people aware of the severity of the situation that the world is facing after COVID-19 pandemic so they help controlling the spread by quarantining themselves.
While we do need to take it seriously, the other side is that ‘some groups of people’ (i.e. most people) are taking it too seriously. If current projections are correct we are on the way to having no more deaths from coronavirus than we did from the flu in 2017. Are these groups who are taking the coronavirus so seriously and insisting no one go out unless their life depends on it having the same attitude about flu deaths?

I’m not saying the symptoms aren’t worse than the flu and that we don’t need to take it seriously, but the ‘fear’ and panic is so far causing more problems for us than the virus is.

  • Apple sources 20M face masks, designs and ships face shields for medical workers

My amateur projections saying the number of infected will quadruple over the next 2 week (in the USA)...

    I really hope I’m wrong.
You may be right and of course that would be very bad, but we as a country desperately need perspective. As of now, if the coronavirus deaths quadruple they will still be less than projected deaths for the flu. It also very likely that the death rate is strongly skewed toward a higher death rate since those who are suffering are mainly the ones being tested.

I only say these things because our panic and overreactions to the coronavirus is causing more problems than the virus itself. We need to take it seriously, but we need to have perspective and patience.

And we also need self discipline—if people were acting responsibly this outbreak would already be under control, and we’d also not be perpetually out of foods and supplies and greedy losers charging $40 for a 16oz bottle of ‘Equate’ (Walmart brand) isopropyl alcohol on eBay.

  • Apple's anticompetitive behavior has 'gotten worse,' Tile tells congressional panel

It really gets tiring to see iOS developers complain about Apple, seeming to show no awareness that if it weren’t for Apple’s App Store many of them wouldn’t even have jobs in the first place (no resources to start a company and to sell their work). We so quickly become entitled, like we deserve the good things we have, even when they come from someone else.

  • iPhone location data used by US government to track coronavirus spread

I’m usually against tracking people, but this seems reasonable to take advantage of. It’s funny to me that many people are so desperate to complain about how Trump did this or that but by far the biggest problem is the population. If we had simply had more self discipline and concern for others things would have been under control weeks ago. A couple of days ago I saw groups of people playing basketball and tennis at a closed park (not husband/wife duos or parent/child)—that underlying mindset is why the virus is still on the rise in the US. If the government is using anonymous user data to track the irresponsible movement of people simply to understand the virus’ movement better, that’s just for health education and I’m fine with it.
