  • Apple Vision Pro $3,499 mixed-reality headset launches at WWDC after years of rumors

What a bunch of negative DORKS on this site. Much like the iPhone, until you use it you can't understand its utility.

At least be intelligent or insightful if you're going to be dorks.
Um… EVERYONE knew the iPhone was a hit right off the bat.
Nope. Sorry, but that is completely inaccurate. The nerds loved the iPhone, yes. But to the regular consumer they were derided for many many reasons…

•They were too expensive at first, necessitating a price drop less than 2 months after launch.

•They were only available through AT&T.

•They only worked on the pre-3G EDGE network.

•Third party apps were only available after jailbreaking the device.

    •It wasn’t a Blackberry.

There list goes on, but the point remains…they only sold a few million the first year they were available. They were far from a hit that first year, they were more like a curiosity to most. The iPhone May have been the Time magazine Invention of the Year, but it took 1-2 years before it was actually a hit.

I imagine the Vision Pro preceding a Vision Air and possibly a Vision SE somewhere down the line. These aren’t for consumers in the same way that the Mac Pro isn’t for consumers. Our version won’t take too long once this is out in the wild, because then the fine-tuning of the hardware and software can begin and margins can improve, making an affordable model more realistic. But make no mistake, Apple wants as many people to use these as possible, so the price won’t stay like that for very long. They have services to sell us, after all.

It does not seem like a very Apple-y product, but that's not unexpected either. It's a first gen, and according to reports was intended for developers anyway. Three years out they may have something. At the moment it seems like it was pushed out to the retail market before it's fully hatched, and I'm not sure why altho I could guess there's some other nearly-finished products from potential competitors coming before the year is out.

No doubt some regular users here will rush to buy a Vision Pro anyway; after all, it's from Apple. By the time it's fully developed in gen 3 I would expect it to be half to a third of the current price. That's when it may capture my interest.  Or not.
    Not fully hatched?
It seems like they put a lot of love and energy into addressing all the shortcomings other AR headset suffer from. So I’m just curious as to what you need to see for it to be considered “fully hatched ”?

No surprise all the haters rushed to be the first to comment.
And all before the announcement was even over, lol.

Why does this sight keep using a render of snorkelling goggles to show “a render of potiential Apple headset?” This was the first image ever posted about the upcoming headset, years ago and it is ridiculous. If apple releases a headset like this, fish everywhere will be using VR!
I agree…this render is almost a meme by now. But it’s not just here. Every article or blog post out there are using the same 1-2 images. Search “Augmented Reality” in Apple News, select the Top Result and scroll down to see what I mean.
I think the render here was specifically commissioned by AppleInsider.
Cool. If so, they should be proud to see it all over the Internet then. At least until the announcement, that is.
