  • Compared: 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro versus 2020 MacBook Air

The MacBook Air is much cheaper and is probably the best choice for the everyday consumer who doesn't fire up Logic or FinalCut Pro often (or at all). Apple's cheapest notebook is still fast enough to handle all the web browsing, video watching and email checking you can throw at it.
I think the distinction between consumer and professional is silly and just confuses the issue. Why not say 'user'. I use my mbp 99% for professional purposes but I never use FCP or Logic. I frequently use Photoshop but for small easy jobs that I probably could use another app for had it not been for the fact that I am very familiar with PS. I love my 2019 MBP but if I was going to buy one today I'd choose the MBA hands down. I actually love the touch bar but I wouldn't miss it much. The Touch ID has become indispensable, however. For me Air is plenty powerful and I like the lighter weight and prefer the form factor. The extra ports on the MBP have never been required. In fact I have never used more than one. At work I plug into a monitor which acts as a hub for the connections and devices  I need (and are permanently plugged in). At home and when I move around I never plug anything in.

The upside to Apple bringing out a deluxe keyboard At this price point is that the Logitech's out there will spot an opportunity and bring out something lower priced but at the same time acceptable high quality.
I don't think they'll be able to. People who are interested in this want Apple's keyboard, Apple's trackpad and Apple's case/stand implementation. Any third party option is not going to come close, no matter how hard they try in my opinion.

I remember buying a logitech bluetooth keyboard/case for an iPad Mini a few years ago and I can count on one hand the total number of times I've used it. It just wasn't a good feel or a good experience when using it. Even though it wasn't super expensive, it turned out to be an expensive purchase, since I barely ever touched the thing.

I definitely don't think they will be able to match the quality nor the sexiness of the Apple one but they will make something cheaper. I had a Logitech folio keyboard which was pretty good. My gripe with that one as well as with the Apple Bluetooth one I also used was the lack of Mouse support. I have been whining about this forever  I have never subscribed to the NO MOUSE fundamentalist view. A mouse or a trackpad will be game changer. Now let's just figure out the file system app. I don't know what Apple has always had such an hard time with file management.

I think the price is high. I think it is ok to bitch about the price as long as it is reasoned and not just whining. My guess is that this keyboard will sell like crazy because it is the best out there. The upside to Apple bringing out a deluxe keyboard At this price point is that the Logitech's out there will spot an opportunity and bring out something lower priced but at the same time acceptable high quality. Apple is setting the bar pretty high which always is a good thing. Short of cash, get a cheap folio case and a Bluetooth mouse. Not as amazing but still good.
