  • iPhone 15 certified cable requirement expected to create high USB-C charger demand

So people actually think all these Anker, Belkin, Aukey, etc. USB-C chargers that people have and have been using to charge their iPhones at 18+ watts with USB-C to Lightning cables will suddenly become nerfed and charge at just 5w and/or 12w for the new phones? I’ve never heard such a ridiculous claim. This is not going to happen. I’d be willing to bet $10k the MFi restrictions everyone has their panties in a bunch over will turn out to be limited to accessories like adapter dongles and docks, etc, just like they are today. Apple may go the super shitty route and require MFi USB-C cables, but they’re not going to needlessly nerf millions of existing USB-C chargers.

Did the Irvine Chamber of Commerce help write this extremely long ad?

I was thinking the exact same thing. The flowery language sounds exactly like what you’d read in an ‘advertorial’ insert in something like Fortune magazine encouraging business to relocate to Irvine. Such a bizarre article.

  • Dropbox won't be able to sync to external drives on macOS

It might be worth looking at Maestral (https://www.maestral.app/) as an alternative to the official Dropbox client. The File Provider APIs are required if you want to have content that is partially online and partially offline, as it allows files to be downloaded seamlessly on demand. If all you want is the classic Dropbox experience - a local folder that syncs, this doesn’t require any special APIs nor have any limits on where data can be stored. Unfortunately Dropbox doesn’t seem to have much interest in this use case anymore and is all-in on content that is stored in the cloud and retrieved on-demand.
Also came here to suggest Maestral. I don’t use Dropbox like the people mentioned in the article but I switched to it a couple years ago simply because it’s so much more resource efficient than the official client.

Musk is doing what he and his engineers can to make Twitter a better, more open platform. Kudos to them.
How does charging for API access that used to be free make the platform more open?

I have an AirTag on my dog.  It works great.   Just one more level of safety

FWIW,  I also have  AirTags on my mountain bikes, in my cars, in my wallet, on my key chain.  Amazing product
Careful. There is a 16 AirTag limit per Apple ID for some stupid reason.
