No one knows how well MS is doing there, because just like with their Zune's, they refuse to release any numbers. When a company does that, it usually means they aren't as successful as they want people to think.
We're now seeing the same thing with Amazon. They claim their devices are very popular, but refuse to release numbers to prove it.
Apple isn't claiming anything for the ATv so far.
Well we do know there are 20 million Live gold users, but i dont have any stats on purchase histories and many more millions have been sold. You said yourself roughly 6 million sold just for the ATV alone. Apple has to go against these kinds of numbers with the beast that is Netflix on both consoles.

Well, if you go to the iTunes store and search for DLNA you will get around 8 apps back, a couple that I looked at say they will do DLNA serving of phones etc. Try them out, if I get bored later I will install one on my sons iPhone touch
Knowing the competition and their products better than they know yours.
The remark of an idiot.
Palm chief executive and former iPod chief Jon Rubinstein said "his company doesn't pay much attention to Apple, and noted he has never even used an iPhone."
I wonder if that's to buffer against accusations of using the same ideas, there's a risk of IP contamination. However, it seems to me to be a lie in all honesty, which I think is worse, but I think it's more plausible than taking Rubenstein at his word that he's ignorant of his competition. To me, not watching your known competition is foolish. Let's say you're on a baseball team, and you're up against another team. Is it really smart to say that you don't care to know what the other team is up to? You don't try to analyze their strategies?
Rubinstein is a Liar. Even Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer will not say they never touched an iPhone, or doesn't pay attention to Apple.
There are probably dozens of iPhone disassembled at Palm's lab. This man is a damn liar. There is no phone company on the planet earth who has not disassembled an iPhone to see the "magic" inside.
Rubinstein is ashamed to admit that Apple is beating the pants off Palm. Screw him!
Why are you getting so hysterical about him..?
He's just doing some bold marketing/PR talk. Message there is that Palm is doing their own thing rather than copying Apple (and I did say message, not necessarily truth).
Additionally, Jon might be a bit pissed of for iTunes fiasco
Wow. How can you claim you offer the best product, if you haven't at least checked out the competition? With that said, I do not believe the guy. Palm borrowed so much from Apple in creating the Pre, his claim seems preposterous. Further, it seems crazy that Palm first hitches a ride on iTunes, and after that fails, will not create a solution itself.
if you drive faster enough, you do not have to worry about the driver besides you or behind you.
Palm is a good platform to build on (even the old pdas, it got much more followers today).
Hitch a ride? Sure, why not. Isn't your PC was made by someone hitch a ride from IBM PC? Isn't Apple hitch a ride from PARC? If someone can hitch a ride and use the ride as launch pad for a rocket, that is a wow. (007 movie comes in to mind).

This is the point people are missing and big time. Palm has done their own thing and delivered a remarkable OS and laid great foundations for their future and what's coming up in february (am i the only one who watched their CES show?) WebOS users should be ecstatic.
I have the feeling that Palm is betting on someone to make software for syncing for that developer prize money.

I still say the cat and mouse game with Apple was to get free marketing. While low-rent I'd say it was a success over not having a sync method.
Do you have a link to the video. I'm sure there are several here who would like to watch and comment on it but don't really feel like seeking it out.
In an interview at CES this week, Palm chief executive and former iPod chief Jon Rubinstein said his company doesn't pay much attention to Apple, and noted he has never even used an iPhone.
Perhaps this is why Palm doesn't "get it" when it comes to PDAs anymore.

ROFL. How unrealistic. Everyone knows CE-anythings never get "fired" from jobs; they get paid millions of dollars to leave early instead.

Palm posted it on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn6oNKVd29g Its like 50 minutes long, first 20 or 25 mins are about recapping, an SFR guy talks, then they talk about Project Ares and opening up their app catalog to devs. Thats the boring crap, then EA comes on then from there its pretty good.
Rubinstein seemed really stiff and im sure i could give a waaaaay better speech, but i could care less about him as much as i do the product he makes. (see what i did there)

Yes, until you crash. Defensive driving is still best.

I don't get it though.
They made linking to itunes and the store a major part of their platform's credibility. They were so desperate for it that they kept working around Apple's defenses. Even after the organization ruled against them they made defiant remarks.
So why, since it's pretty simple to do so, do they decide to suddenly let a third party come up with it. There may be no third party that does this, or they may not do it properly.
But they don't. The PS2 is second banana to the Wii, and younger people watch less Tv.
Why are you restricting yourself to gaming. Sony sells DLNA supported TV's (remember you need them to play those wii games), DLNA supported DVD Players, DLNA supported Blu-Ray players, what does Apple have, an overpriced media player.

Exactly, which is why the likes of Sony still owns the living room.
But they don't. The PS2 is second banana to the Wii, and younger people watch less Tv.
Why? Because I proved you wrong?
But you didn't.

That can do more than just game, and only at 299. The App Store is the added incentive to have an iPhone.
It's still mostly used for games.
Both MS and Sony have high hopes for their consoles, but so far they're used almost all for games.
Most people that have them also have DVD players which they use for movies and Cds. A DVR for Tv shows. They do a better job of it.
if you drive faster enough, you do not have to worry about the driver besides you or behind you.

It's very strange.
the tablet will have a stylus
I hope.
I 'love' my 2000 Message Pad
and, to a lesser degree, my 'Accompli' (phone that is)
But they don't. The PS2 is second banana to the Wii, and younger people watch less Tv.

And the Apple TV is an overpriced Airport Express, without the AP support.
It's still mostly used for games.
Both MS and Sony have high hopes for their consoles, but so far they're used almost all for games.
But it is a known fact that the PS3 is the most popular Blu-Ray player.
Most people that have them also have DVD players which they use for movies and Cds. A DVR for Tv shows. They do a better job of it.
So what is your point? I can use the PS3 for all the tasks you listed there, DVD Player, CD Player, and DVR, and it does a great job at all of them.
