The parade through the company's Redmond campus, first reported by NeoWin, included hearses, oversized iPhone and Blackberry coffins, and various Halloween-like costumes.

One truck featured a sign bragging, "Windows Phone 7 OS Platform buries the competition." In doing so, Microsoft takes its place in a long line of products that were billed as "iPhone killers."

Various sources have reported that Windows Phone 7, which went RTM last week, will launch at an October 11 event in New York City, although the first devices wouldn't be available until late October in Europe and November in the U.S.

Microsoft posted a teaser trailer for Windows Phone 7 on YouTube last week, the first in what is expected to be a $500 million marketing campaign for the launch of the mobile OS.

Research firm Gartner predicted Friday that the Windows Phone market share would fall from 8.7 percent in 2009 to just 3.9 percent in 2014. Nokia Symbian and Google Android were placed at first and second with 30.2 percent and 29.6 percent respectively. Apple's iOS was listed in third place with an estimated 14.9 percent market share in 2014.

    Or how about this one?

    This is hilarious.

    1) The UI: So every application requires a back button? Pretty sure it doesn't. Great Job, jackass in: Level 2, Department: Stupid 414.

    2) Nice rip off from Madonna 'Frozen' viddy, MSFT marketing department.

    3) Microsoft's vision of computing is like 'buying' the torch from the Special Olympics. Don't make fun of them, but they are ultimately handicapped at the end of the day.

Reading the outraged fanboy comments here is so laughable, I had to post. This is a private office party on the Microsoft campus. This is not an advertisement or marketing. This was a "Doo Dah" style parade with about 15 different subjects not just a "funeral". Get a sense of humor, fanboys.

Sounds like Microsoft have been taking lessons from George W. Bush on how to identify success.

This, from a $200+ billion company........ the third most valuable company in the US!

How about laugh so hard you cry?

At least they could use specialist-made decorations. The clapboards look like the employees used stencils and spray paint...

The parade does show the difference between Apple and many leaders in other industries - They go out and produce the best product they can and let the public decide what they want.

Some others, like Microsoft, use assorted backdoor methods to come out on top. I'm saddened by the number of people who trust their CIOs blindly. That's how Microsoft got the market share they got.

Now, for the other thought - Microsoft stuff *reduces* the productivity of its users, dragging the economy down.

Hey, should the new Obama Jobs program really be putting Microsoft out of business? Unfortunately, Ballmer has probably already made threats about license pulling so that governments could no longer produce documents with which to go after them.

I think most people here have a sense of humor and that is why this display is so excruciating. So pitiful. I mean, sure, it takes all kinds, but I think most people, not just AppleInsider folks, would be grateful that their colleagues probably have a little more class and show a little more restraint than these guys. Not that I am against a good party (I am even a pretty tolerant partyer).

But what are you doing here anyway? Shouldn't you be playing with your lightsabre somewhere?

I'm sure there were quite a few. It's that sinking feeling some of us have experienced when we realise our job is total bollocks.

I think Apple fans should try to be more like Steve Wozniak NOT Steve Jobs. Woz has a sense of humor and he would've been in that parade were he an employee.

I disagree with basically everything said so far. My initial reaction has to be that for such a big company they seem to care a lot about there staff and try and think of ways to reward them. As it was basically all for the guys working on the phone, I've got toquestion what do the iPhone guys get as a reward?

This is the phone market, nobody stays on top forever. Think motorola razr that dominated for years but people like change. Android has a great chance particularly when things get cheap. How will the iPhone and iPad compete with devices that only cost £50 - £100? We've seen with netbooks that people will go with cheap products and android is basically going to give the cheapest brands on the planet a good os for their hardware.

Till next quarters, a lot of analysts thought it would be last quarter but that was slightly premature. You have grossly exaggerated their profit advantage

He hasn't, microsofts profit is over double what apple make. They have very similar revenues and it was apples revenue that was expected to pass Microsoft. But just looking at the revenue and profit figures apple would need to double what they sell just to equal Microsofts profit.

Here's the krazzy Mustang that immediately followed the '67 fixer-upper. Yum :-)

Firstly. This is just the team having a laugh. Not something designed by MS Marketing. Lighten up.

Seondly. The MS 7 is not a copy of the iPhone, and thanks for that. Another iPhone clone would be a mess. I have used it, it is ok. The front page is really a series of folders, not unlike the modern front page of the iPhone. You click on Weather and get to weather apps, or app. It looks worse than it is.

Thirdly. I agree with the PC vs Mac ads. I think they suck. It is really antagonising your potential customers.

the problem with the cheap Android idea is that the OS does not support it. The term phone is slightly misleading - the iPhone and the iPOd touch are computers, with full internet capability and an SDK. They have all kind of apps. One of those apps on the iPhone makes calls over the traditional carrier network. On the iPod touch Skype can do the same over wifi. Other apps do other stuff.

Android 3.0 needs this kind of power:

Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.

Thats what competes with the iPhone from now on. It wont be cheap. Developers wont care about the rest, which will be running versions of 2.2/2.1.
