So what your point? That it's bad Apple cover up all the components, or that PC's sometimes use plastic?
Most good PC cases these days are a combination of steel and alminuim, so that point is mute.
Not that its bad that Apple covers it all up, just that saying a case is good because its covered up is like saying a car is good because the engine bay is covered up.
Why are you here? This is an Apple-oriented site! You are trying to convince the visitors here that Windows is superior?
Yeah i'm not really sure, but this article originally caught my eye, and some of the earlier dialouge was more on topic. It's more interesting debating with people who don't all have the same ideas. Plus this site is setting the topic, when they cover a Windows story.

OK, I'll play...
What's going to happen when Windows (whatever version) new installs fall to less than 50% of all OS new installs...
Android + iOS should exceed Windows new installs in the next 12-24 months.
Windows 8 will not have a player in the non-x86 market in that timeframe.
Those 400 million Windows 7 installs look pretty lonely!
Actually... you're. obviously a pretty bright and resourceful person...
Why are you here? This is an Apple-oriented site! You are trying to convince the visitors here that Windows is superior?
...Good luck with that?
Why waste all of our time?
The problem is that this so-called 'Apple-oriented' site tends to do a lot of coverage on non-Apple news or competitor's products. So its going to attract an audience that are interested in those subjects who may or may not care about Apple at all.
The fact that many of those articles tend to be heavily biased doesn't help either.

Are you saying that anyone with a differing opinion can't post here?
what do you hope to accomplish? Do you want to drive out anyone with a differing opinion such that the only discussions here are "Yes, I agree!" and "Exactly!"?
The article is about Windows 8. Why can't someone who is interested in Windows 8 post in the discussion then? Certainly it's not off topic. Sure, his opinions go against the grain here, but he hasn't resorted to trolling nor have his posts been seriously off topic, so what is the issue with him posting here?
As for the bias here, you don't have to go much further than a few DED articles to realize how heavily the spin is, and how much misinformation is actually presented.

You'll find the the problem is primarily one writer, Daniel Eran Dilger.
The guy is consumed with hate and his writing shows it. My guess would be that 80% or so of his articles aren't focused on how great an Apple product is but on how everything that isn't Apple is shit.
If his writing was accurate it wouldn't be so much of a problem. Unfortunately he twists facts or straight out lies in order to link-bait and troll for as many clicks as he can.
His writing creates a not-so subtle and distinct shift in the website.
Before Dilger Apple Insider was a shining beacon of pro-Apple goodness, frequented by the "we love Apple" crowd (a nice bunch of people!).
With Dilger Apple Insider has become a rat-hole for the "we hate everything that isn't Apple" crowd. The go-to destination for anyone that wants an outlet to regurgitate the same monotonous bile and scorn for anything without an Apple logo on it.

You are correct!
Unfortunately, the way to make headway with a [given] hostile audience os to "convince them" not "confront them".
BTW, my first MS sale was MS BASIC on a chadless tape for an Altair in 1979.
Here's the way I see it shaking out.
-- MS has a desktop OS (the most popular 400 million whatever)
-- Apple has a desktop OS - something [a lot] less than 400 million
-- MS has a mobile OS ~ 0 acceptance, but good reviews
-- Apple has a mobile OS with about 150-200 million users
-- Android has a Mobile OS with about 100-150 million users
Of these, only MS and Apple can cross-pollinate desktop--->mobile--->desktop.
The mobile--->desktop is key, IMO!
Apple has already shown that OS X == iOS == OS X && OS X Apps == iOS Apps == OS X apps.
Only MS can challenge that... but they are late (maybe too late) and they won't...
Sinofski [sic] has the right idea, but Ballmer/Gates/MS Legacy success will not let them do that -- they are all about protecting the status quo.
So, in the 2014 timeframe, we'll have WP apps, SS apps, Preso apps... music and video creation apps...
They will all run (for better or worse) on any screen we have: phone; mp3 player, tablet, mobile/laptop/desktop computer, TV...

Windows 7 has now just passed 500 million sold. Once you factor all the other versions in existience I believe the Windows install base is over 1 billion.

Who's gonna' take you there?
Whatever each and every consumer chooses, multiple platforms will coexist, and just like any existing platforms their will be pros and cons on either side.

I gotta' ask...
Don't you see what's happening?
I worked for IBM when they had 97% of the [maimframe] computer market... they're an also-ran now!
The world is changing, again, and MS is going to own 100% of last year's/decade's technology.
The Courier was the best thing that MS had going... but they couldn't afford to take that step.
I think it has more to do with the ability to dual boot windows. This lets people try out osx without having to truly commit to it. Sure the halo effect from their mobile devices account for some sales, but I think the ability to run windows have driven osx adoption a lot more than that.
the true threat from the mobile devices is outright replacing the desktop altogether. I don't think we're quite there yet, and I think android is better in this front than iOS.
the other thing to keep in mind is that apple doesn't target all markets, so I think there will always be room for at least one other OS.

and yet, last I checked, IBM is doing pretty damned good these days. I wouldn't underestimate MS' resilence. They may go through a period of soul searching a la apple in the 90s, but its hard for me to see MS failing outright in the near future with how entrenched they are in IT and services.
You clearly don't understand anything about Apple's business strategy or how they make their profits.
Of course I don't. After all, I've only been using their products ever since the 80's and I owe the health of my life's savings to their stock. You clearly display the superior intellect, have the attitude of a true winner and are a credit to your generation. I salute you!
So you don't touch anything Windows for 8 years, then buy a $160 netbook with Windows 7 Starter and you feel the poor experience you had means everything Microsoft make is crap (even the Xbox)?
Never said anything about the XBox. It's a closed system and developers have to work within its parameters. I view it the same as my sons PS3, Wii, etc.
To your first question, yes, my experience simply takes me back to the same aggravating experiences that I had 8 years ago with Windows. There are simply too many existing variables with the variety of hardware and software available that makes that OS an abomination for the consumer.
Now that you mention it, OSX is similar to an Xbox, PS3, or Wii, in that it takes a particular designed input, hardware or software based, that make it operate. Therefore you have an expectation of exactly what it is supposed to do, and how it is supposed to do it. This is why Windows is such a failure, no matter how many renditions they make. It has no idea what it is, and there are a million combinations of software and hardware that are trying to make it what they want it to be and do. At the end the day, it's the consumer or business that pays in poor productivity. You are watching a fledgling example of the same exact crap with the open source Android software. It's becoming so fragmented, that simple updates are challenging for every platform.

I'm not so sure. The impression I got it that Microsoft have pretty much handed the reins over to Sinofsky.
He was in control of Office and turned Vista into Windows 7. Now Microsoft have put him in control of Windows, Windows Live and IE.
If Windows 8 pays off I wouldn't be surprised if Sinofsky ends up CEO.
