Sorry, I don't see Android tablets taking off ever. Android is largely seen by consumers as a mobile phone OS. Actually, I'll go one step further than that, a large majority of people who buy Android based phones are just buying phones, they don't care about the OS and probably never will. Android is not "winning" some OS war, it's merely a default on crappy phones that disinterested consumers purchase as a low entry point.

Google's Android as a platform is basically being propped up by fanboys. To date, no one else is supporting this platform.

I've known a few people who have just bought Android phones purely because they were cheap. They really couldn't care less if it was Android, iOS, WP7 or BlackBerry as long as they could post shit no one cares about to Facebook.

My brother, on the other hand, has an Android phone and tablet because he proclaims off the top of the highest mountain how amazing and spectacular the OS and devices are. The last time I saw him, he had to buy a new phone because his HTC Desire HD couldn't be upgraded to ICS (even though it was only released January last year), he asked me how much an iPad cost because he was considering buying one and his new phone (forget what model but its a HTC) has a theme on it that makes it look very close to an iPhone, right down the dock bar and the grid of apps and the bubbles in the messaging service. The look on his face was priceless when I pointed out that it looks and operates like an iPhone. I know a few other Fandroids who have suddenly gone quiet in recent months - maybe they're finally getting tired of it all?

    About 5 to 10 minutes.

I guess that flash is no longer important, all of a sudden.

I think its quite hilarious when you consider how much egg on their faces Fandroids have form all their boasting.

Fandroids: "We have flash! You don't! HAHA!"

iSheep: "Flash is a battery and CPU hog. Also, how are you supposed to interact with 95% of the Flash in the net without a keyboard and mouse?"

Fandroids: "Yeah but we can <insert flash based site here>"

    iSheep: "App"

Fandroids: "Yeah but we can <insert flash based site here>"

    iSheep: "Requires a keyboard"

Fandroids: "Yeah but we can <insert flash based site here>"

    iSheep: "HTML5"

Fandroids: "We have flash and you don't haha! HTML5 can never replace Flash!"

Adobe: "Fine, we admit it, Flash is crap on mobile devices and HTML5 is a better solution. Mobile Flash is now dead."

iSheep: "So I hear Adobe stopped Flash"

    Fandroids: ...

    iSheep: "Cat got your tongue?"

Fandroids: "Check out our awesome ICS tablets?"

iSheep: "Just go sit in the corner with the dunce hat"

Micro$oft: "Guys, guys, check this out! SURFACE!"

Fandroids: "But we're still better! We're awesome! Google will save us!"

iSheep: "Surface... Huh... That's unexpected. Guess we better keep on our toes"

Fandroids: "NEXUS 7 AND JELLY BEAN! Suck on this!.......... We're screwed, aren't we..."

    iSheep/Micro$oft: "Yes"

(I just sent him a text instead, much faster)

He got rid of it because it ran like crap with ICS, not because he couldn't upgrade (at least unofficially). He hasn't gotten the official ICS from HTC because it hasn't been released yet.

My mistake, I put my hands up to that one. :)

So ICS was released in October 2011. His HTC is not going to receive it until July-August, some apps he uses (I think Sky Player is one of them) do not run on rooted Android devices and a hacked ICS for his phone runs like crap. Yup! Such a smooth upgrade path!

So they've decided to go the 'no profit' route of Amazon? Yeah, smart move....

Further, any ideolog or paid shill can gain access to iOS prereleases for $99 per year.

Most people with access to the Maps are devs, not shills. It gets a bit odd, we seem like a cult, when we talk about paid shills. The Maps are materially worse in the Beta, and they won't be as good as Google at release by my reckoning. Nevertheless they are not that bad if they get more data and better road contrast - at the moment its hard to even see the roads. A lot depends on what you think about street view, my guess is Apple assumes that is a nice to have for most people. the 3D is ok where it works, but adds little value.

So, no need to post then.

Anyways, back to Apple. If Apple want to keep market share high all they need is a better looking seven inch iPad in the range of 100 dollars more than the competition. It might be a good idea to sell with iTunes Vouchers, as well, use content to sell hardware, rather than the reverse, which is what the opposition is doing. If the have a 3G version, they will have already won that market. The ecosystem, will sell it.

In any case, Margins will have to decline, and Wall Street have priced that in.

Am I sufficently qualified to express my opinion, sir? Do I have your permission?

Ecosystem : you are defining iTunes, but all that applies to Google Play as well.

Updates : I'm buying Google Phones, my Nexus S is still supported after 2 years.

NFC : it's a gimmick until Apple puts it in their next phone

    Dictation : gratuitous statement

Maps : people always say here that you shouldn't compare that isn't even out with something that has been out for years. You obviously didn't try the beta... Again, your trolling is a total fail, everything you are talking about already exists on Google Maps (plus street view (yeah you don't use it I know)), 3D is soon coming, and, what? Yelp?? Lol that only works in the US, it's not as complete as Google adresses.

Notifications : on ICS they are already better tham on iOS (single tap all-erase, better sorting). They are even better on JB (direct mail, messages, g+ fast answers in the notification tray.

Siri : it's so great that it's still called a beta, it often fails, it's uncapable of answering a simple question, it's uncapable to understand "itinerary to Wall Street" from outside the maps app.

I love Apple and only really buy Apple products if they are comparable because I prefer them for numerous reasons.  That said- this post is great and dead on.  Updates are the only thing I would argue with you on- most OEMs offer no updates at all.  So while you can find the exception, it definitely isn't the rule.

But you are dead on about NFC.  I actually would love it- a large number of stores in my city have them- almost all.  I'm also in a very wealthy area and newly constructed area of Texas (Collin County), so while it might not be widespread everywhere- it is here- and I want it.  I don't think its a gimmick at all.

As Blunty explained above, why would I regularly want to drain two devices batteries to use one device?  He makes the case that it can occasionally be useful, but is dumb to consider as the default way to do things.

If that were true, and I personally don't believe it is, then it would be idiotic for Apple to massively degrade iOS maps when they have virtually unlimited cash in the bank. If the iOS 6 maps aren't Google level at launch, and it's hard to imagine they possibly could be, then it could be the final straw which forces me to switch.  As it is I'm close, - a deadly combination of iOS5 running like half dead sloth on my iPhone 4, horrible skeumorphic designs infesting the UI, and the microscopic screen size are not making me a happy customer.

This is exactly why I bought the cellular iPad.

Past performance does not equal future results.

Nobody knows what will happen in the tablet market.

Of course we do, regardless of what trollers say. iPad continues to dominate and that is not about to change. The Apple ecosystem is still far superior to G's. Fragmentation is still a huge issue for G that is going to continue to haunt them, as well as the fact that iOS is continuing to grow while Android is stagnating at the high end.

What exactly is better with the Apple ecosystem vs Google's?
