LMAO...Thank you for continuing to post on here and giving me my comic relief for the day. I never knew the point of communion in church (where many churches use grape juice and not wine BTW) was to get me liquored up to be more reseptive to brain washing. Thanks for the valuable insight. Next time I will wear my tin foil hat to protect me...

Well, a lot of them still use Wine and I've actually heard some of them act like it's the blood of Jesus. Like Jesus was an alcoholic.  Didn't he go around trying to tell people NOT to get drunk?  But wasn't it the sinners (Christians) that crucified him?  It wasn't the Jews that did it, that's been proven and admitted by the Catholic Church decades ago.  To me, it's just too much BS for me to deal with.  But unfortunately, there are too many brainwashed individuals that get bent out of shape over it for no reason.  I just get sick of it being promoted and almost forced on people. I'm sure Jesus would object to the amount of commercialism and money that's being made from a religion that uses his name that even he didn't create.

If they gave out 8 free songs, would you download only Christian related songs or the songs they are handing out, or would you decide to get other songs?

I wouild dowload different songs. I don't care anything about any of the songs they are giving away free. But I don't find it insulting in the least. Neither would I find it insulting if they gave away Muslim songs around an Islam holiday, or Jewish songs around one of their holidays.

I just think if you find this offensive and insulting, then your skin is a little too thin and you are WAY too easily offended and insulted.

To imply that they are giving out the wrong free stuff is just ridiculous. They have an app of the week every week too. If they gave me the choice of dowloading any app for free each week, I would most likely chose a different app than the app of the week; however, I have never been insulted because I did not get to chose which app I got for free.

My skin isn't too thin, Your's is.

You would find it VERY insulting if they ONLY gave away other religious songs that YOU didn't belong to.

I find Christianity and other religions to be amongst the bane of society.

What I find offensive is the continual harassing from Christians into thinking that my idea of just handing out 8 free songs of one's choice isn't a better idea.

This will be my last post on this topic. You have been very amusing. Probably more so because I think you are very serious. I appreciate you correcting me and letting me know what I would and would not find offensive. It is a good thing for me to be aware of and I appreciate you telling me what my beliefs and feelings are. I truly hope you are able to find some peace because you appear to be very troubled. This severe of a reaction over free Christmas music is ridiculous and absurd. Your arguments are nonsensical and the irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Religion is the cause of most wars in society.  If they just handed out 8 or whatever number of free songs and didn't have any religious connotation, then everyone that uses iTunes would be happy.  Then they could give away a free gift to EVERYONE, rather than just a subset of their customer base.

That would be BETTER marketing instead of using it to segregate people.

Seriously, I don't know why all of these so-called Christians are getting bent out of shape over this.  If you want to promote goodwill towards EVERYONE, then YOU of all people, should want what I am suggesting.

I just feel that people that don't celebrate a specific religion that wouldn't download those songs get left out.  I think that's wrong.  I wouldn't do that if I was in charge of Apple.  I would simply give out so many free song credits and leave it up to each person to decide what they want to download and not leave ANYONE out.  Then no one would have anything to argue about.

I really wish the moderators would've just removed your original and subsequent posts.  You started the conversation about religion, then when someone told you to just mellow out, you starting lashing out saying things like: jewish is a cult, wine is meant to liquor you up, halloween is a christian-disguised holiday.  WTF.  You should seriously just look into the mirror for a few minutes.  I have no problem with you, just your soap box bashing of religions/faith.  Your remarks are discriminatory in nature.  Which "Christians" are harassing you anyway?  How do you know they're Christians?  I just don't see anywhere where Christians are harassing you about your specific idea of handing out 8 free songs of one's choice.  It's like you're paranoid and need to chill.

The original post is religion inspired due to the free song giveaway.  I wish they would have just NOT posted it and Apple would have decided to give away a small handful of free song credits so it wouldn't make this a religious problem in the first place.

    "religious"

""Duck the Halls" by The Robertsons

?Now I do admit they're tasty  critters but "worship" would be a tad over the top.

    "not leave ANYONE out"

?But that'd still mean getting stuff from iTunes, what about people outside that walled garden?: better they just give everyone gold, you know to avoid any insulting national currency issues.

Back to complaining about things on topic.....

Gee, couldn't they have made it MORE complicated to download these songs? First go to the Apple Store app (??? Why not iTunes store?) Then hit download. Then you're taken to the iTunes store anyway and have to log in. Then you're given some gift card code on a screen that talks about using your camera to redeem it. But that doesn't matter because you then just hit "Redeem". Then the songs start downloading. Whew!

Wow. Talk about the Christmas spirit in this thread..... Yuck.

Back on topic, there are three Christmas albums that are standouts for me -- so much so that I offer money-back guarantees to friends to whom I recommend it (and often give them as stocking stuffers for family):

    1) JAZZ TO THE WORLD (some incredible performances by jazz legends such as John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, The Brecker Brothers....)

    2) MAHALIA SINGS SONGS OF CHRISTMAS (if her renditions of 'What Child Is This' and 'No Room at the Inn' don't melt your heart, you have no heart....)

    3) BRUCE COCKBURN: CHRISTMAS (an amazingly talented, under appreciated Canadian singer/songwriter/guitarist).

All available on iTunes. Merry Christmas! :D

That was pretty convoluted. Not reading all that well I first went to the "app" store (puzzled but figuring "promotion"), then iTunes and then, finally to the Apple-app store… because, of course, when one wants to download music I go to the hardware…. oh, wait.

Do you know anyone that died, went to what they THINK is heaven, and found out it wasn't what they though it was?   And can anyone prove they are actually going to heaven?   Has anyone proven that they actually went to heaven?  I don't seem to remember anyone proving that concept.<img class=" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies//lol.gif" />

    HAPPY WINTER SEASONAL FESTIVAL EVERYONE!!!

Oh crap, it's not winter everywhere is it ... sh!t ...

Thanks for the free stuff Apple, I for one appreciate you offering it whether I take advantage of it or not. Nor will I be offended if you offer different free stuff to others in different locations, it's all good.

I think they should have allowed for 8 free songs of the user's choice instead of pushing Christmas songs on us. Some of us don't celebrate Christmas or are religious.
True; I myself am not religious. I do, however, like a lot of what I consider to be "classic" Christmas music. Nat King Cole "Oh, Christmas Tree," Bing Crosby "White Christmas," (even though he was a DB in real life,) stuff like that.

Don't celebrate Christmas? That's why Apple included "Duck the Halls" in the list.

Come celebrate the depth of winter with the "Wear'n o' the Beard." Even some ladies I know, get into working on their beards, best they can...

Of course it is. Haven't you heard of Gluttism? The beautiful axis where Gluttony and Capitalism meet in a holy orgy of excess. Its lovely.

Not like the sordid Festivus celebrated by heathens and other lowlifes.

Damn again, I like being a heathen!

I just disagree with this and I don't think Jobs would have agreed to this either.

    @DrBlank (appropriately chosen I'm sure):

First, this is not the first year they have given out holiday songs for free.

Next they are FREE, they are not somehow pushed onto your device like some sort of malware. If you don't want these songs don't get them its as simple as not downloading them!

Offering holiday songs is hardly PUSHING religion on you.

When you celebrate whatever you do celebrate (or perhaps celebration is off your list also) do you insist that anyone that MIGHT want to give you a gift do so by gift card or cash so you can get what you YOU want?

Why not take a look a this as a kind, small, gesture during which a lot of people celebrate either capitalism, holidays in general or a time that has religious significance for quite a few., or keep walking around with your head up you're a$$ looking for that pea sized heart.

It's actually drblank.  It's not DrBlank, if it was, then it would be listed as DrBlank, but it isn't. It's listed as drblank.  I think it's hilarious how people see what they want to see, even though it's not seen that way by everyone.  hahahaha.

Offering Christmas related songs is a form of pushing religion onto people.

I think it would have been more appropriate to just decide how many free song downloads, if any, and let people decide what to down load instead of some religious related Christmas songs. What's wrong with that?

You are the one with a pea sized heart that doesn't see what OTHERS see.

Where's YOUR heart in seeing my point of view?  Because it caters to YOUR religious background and it doesn't to others that don't prescribe to YOUR religion?

While I agree that Christmas has been über commercialized, I still think it's nice to have a day in which one gives gifts to others to counter the self serving, and self indulgent lot we've become.
