So the iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Retina, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iPad, iPad Mini, iPod, iPod Nano, the upcoming ? WATCH, Apple TV, Apple accessories, is putting all your eggs in one basket?
It's been said that Apple "bet the company" on the iPhone... it's equally true that MS, Palm, and RIMM also "bet their companies" on not jumping out of the path of the train and getting stuck like a deer in headlights.
Although I love Apple - this guy does make a point. If anyone has not read Jaron Lanier's "Who Own The Future?" - it's worth your time. There won't be much for anyone to do in the future once all the jobs are destroyed for the middle class. Steve did make a dent in the universe, although I'm not sure he would have eventually been happy with what that dent did.
If the people of the middle class don't do something now to change their future, they will end up like Nokia and really have no one to blame except their own inaction. All around the world there are people snug in their middle class life watching TV and burning through the opportunity to do what they need to do while there is time to do it. The future owes nothing to the past, but will be beholding to those who act in the present.
So the iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Retina, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iPad, iPad Mini, iPod, iPod Nano, the upcoming ? WATCH, Apple TV, Apple accessories, is putting all your eggs in one basket?

Do you think that Apple would be the same company if the iPhone had failed? All those other devices sell because of the iPhone, not in spite of it.
I didn't know the head of country is so ignorant blaming Apple for the Nokia's downfall. First Nokia became so complacent in it's dominance of cell phone industry that it stop innovating. Second, people in Finland bought cheap android phones and tablets that helped killed Nokia.
Can't wait to see this used as a reason to downgrade the stock again. /s
I think it's more China, exporting cheaper paper, that killed their paper industry. As for Nokia, blame MS and Google more than Apple.
You hit it on the nail.
In France, the whole wood secondary industry is dying because it is cheaper to log timber, send it in China and reimport the furnitures or planks than doing it locally. Totally absurd logistically, and quality is going down the toilet, but man hours heavy industries simply cannot compete.
China has little exploitable forests so need to import almost all its furniture wood. Now loggers and cutters have huge grins because lumber prices surged a lot in the last 10 years.
How much less would they be making had the iPhone flopped? The iPhone is a gateway product that has led to increased sales of other devices.
1) No argument here, but you said Apple has put their eggs in one basket and that is not the case with the iPhone. It's simply that the iPhone is simply more successful than all their other areas of business, but all their other areas of business completely kill the competition in terms of profits. The iPod was dominant but they cannibalized absorbed it like mitochondria in a cell to evolve their ecosystem.
2) In fact, the notion of "gateway" product and "increase sales of other devices" is proof in your own word they have not put their eggs in one basket, unless you want to say that being a CE company is putting your eggs in one basket, but then you have most companies that are as well as Apple branching out into fashion with the ?Watch.

I definitely don't think Apple would be the same company today had the iPhone either not been invented, or been successful.
And while you do make a valid point at the other devices' sales are assisted by the iPhone, there are MANY people who buy all the other products I mentioned in spite of the iPhone.
I do believe Apple would've continued along without the iPhone, it just wouldn't be anywhere near as vast as it is today. By that token, that tells me Apple did not put all their eggs into one basket. I know Steve Jobs mentioned the iPhone was the proverbial Hail Mary of Apple, but it wouldn't have ended there either if it was a dud.

The eggs hatched, and the new chickens need other baskets to collect their eggs in.
It is always easier solving problems by blaming "somebody else" but yourself. Unfortunately, by blaming this "somebody else" the problems will re-occur and deepen!
Comments
Very few considered that because it doesn't make for good comments.

This guy is a bigger jerk than our Canadian prime minister.
One suffers from paranoia when they can't think of anything that is their fault.
There, fixed that for you 8-)

The future never arrives.
Good; screw ‘em.

They don’t like it, maybe they should have come up with something that could compete.

You mean the iPod touch, iPad, and ? Watch sell because of it.

He's probably still laughing on a beach somewhere. CEOs never pay for their incompetence.
Good grief he makes it sound like their entire country is finnished.

Why are these chicken eggs?
In order that they can cross the road.
