Even IDG is fanning the rumor flames:

Inquiries to IDG about the move generated the following standard response:

"I assure you that it was not a decision made quickly or easily. And Apple is confident that Steve's presentation will more than compensate for the inconvenience caused by the date change."

its going to be big, biggly wiggly, the Bigster.

Frankly, that's what I'm afraid of. I don't think this announcement bodes well for the future of Apple. "And now, one more thing: I'd like to introduce you to Apple's new CEO, Steve Case!"

a good 30 - 45 minutes will be spent discussing the success (?) the retail stores have been.

voila the dead horse that will be beaten this year

MWSF Iliad? Hahaha... that would rock.

"Steve, who could have passed for a god, flung his spear, which pierced the nipple of Dellpedon, breaker of computers. Mighty Applememnon then struck Gatescus in the stomach with his sword of bronzewire"

I need to dig out my copy too.

OK, here's some interesting stuff: Apple Norway has always held it's keynote broadcast at the same place... It holds about 250-350 people, and you have to be specially invited...

This year their looking for a bigger place, they want to invite more people. They never know whats comming either, so somehow they must have been told that this one is going to be big...

Everybody has a certain kind of ego: some people like to be known for their ability at crosswords, some for scoring goals in hockey, others for their ability to memorize vast quantities of useless information ... still others, like Uncle Steve, like to be known as highly competent visionaries (a horribly over-used thing, that 'V' word, though if anybody deserves it, it would be Uncle Steve).

Now, if you were Gil Amelieo, and you WANTED to torture Mr. Steve - especially after the last MacWorld let down - then you would almost certainly bump up the keynote time, and force his ENTP-ness (Steve's not-so-secret Myers-Briggs psychological profile, go look it up) to fill the void with half-assed schmoo about iMac casing colors, and how beautifully Gap-like the Mac store is. Heck, if you really-Really wanted to torture Steve, you'd pay Motorola to keep the G4 at 500Mhz for another two years, and force Steve - under the pretext of his immense salesmanlike ability - to dance and sing the praises of the G4, three times a year for six hours at a stretch!

Yeah, that would really get under his skin.

One small problem with that theory tho'

    Steve's in charge.

... and that being the case ...

There's absolutely no way in hell he wants to go thru that kind of embarassment (similiar to what he endured at the past MacWorld) again ... nope, it just ain't gonna happen.

If Steve had nothing to say, especially after the last MacWorld, he'd dance and sing for an hour, and get the hell out of there ... he wouldn't be bumping the time up to sell how wonderfully well lit and Gap-like his new stores are, or even more unlikely, to beg for forgiveness - that just ain't Steve.

Now extending the time to BASK-IN-GLORY?

    Yeah, that's more like Steve.

And I think, one way or the other, that's exactly what he intends to do, especially since it was Steve himself who extended the show.

If Steve brings out something that really really intrigues me, I will be glad to throw a nice fat check at him.

Tonga was an incredible place for a lot of reason, but "Heaven on Earth?" Maybe for Honeymooners for a week, but for 2.5 years of hepatitis, barbequed flying fox and grubs (like in Survivor, but chewy) and wild pigs eating your garden and scraping against your house while mouse-sized rhinoseros beetles flew into your kerosene lamp at annoying times....well, it was incredible! Okay, Heaven on Earth.

And I have my own adaptation of a Tongan hymn that might help bring us good luck!

    Ngaue, Sitiveni, Ngaue

    'Omai he me'a lelei

Fakamolemole hiva ki'au koe G5 moe Kawikitaimi Paleia

    ko hono hingua iLele

mo oku'ou mo'ui lelei ne Pili Katesi.

    Translation:

    Work, Steve, Work

Give to us the good stuff

Please sing to us of the G5 and QuickTime Player called the iWalk

that we may live the good life without Bill Gates.

The language is incredibly romantic, and the average welcoming speech does take about 2.5 hours.

Anyway enough Polynesian...I still think there is going to be some special QuickTime announcement of a software or hardware nature and the whole notion of the consumer Mac (the new version of iMac) will have to fit into a new view of the home digital hub.

On a more far off note, I have always been a big proponent of a tablet (although different than the one most think of) and with news of LCD's being ordered in the 100,000's, maybe a wireless touchscreen is in the future.

    Cheers

    "TONGAN"?!

Name another Mac board that you can get people composing in Tongan!

You guys (even the socialists) just plain rock!

I am going to ignore the upcoming MW and will investigate it after it's over.

I will not get a New Newton this time either. I will not get a Newt Newton ever - unless it hails from ebay. I accept that.

If Steve throws iPods wrapped in padding at the crowd (or whatever tny thing they come out with) I don't think anyone will mind.

    Two quick notes:

1.) I visited my campus store today and to my "amazement" both the G4 and iMac displays were gone, the ibook and TiBook were both still sitting there. The manager informed me that Apple requested that they be taken off display because of supply problems, ie they are almost out of them.

2.) I was at the MWNY keynote this past summer, as I was leaving I walked directly infront of the stage, Steve was there yelling at a bunch of people about not having the new iMac ready, and it looked like his head was about to explode.

You think that's amazing? I was at a local computer store this evening talking with a sales guy I know quite well, and they actually just SOLD a 733 MHz G4 tower! Don't these people read AI?

It made me realize that not everyone checks places like this daily, and the guy is probably thinking he's got the new kick ass PowerMac G4 right now. Hope he doesn't go to apple.com anytime in January...

What was the behavior of the people being yelled at?
