The Naked Mole Rat reports that Apple has turned a cadre of their developers into Elite Project Builder Evangelistas to convert the masses to 64-bit-ness. Many of those TBA slots will be allocated to PB64.
(Lord, listen to me... I sound like Herr Rat)
No mention of hardware, but... then what would they develop/test on, hmm??
So do we think we'll see a leaked photo the week before WWDC? EVERYONE save it to your hard drive because if I miss it I'll be pissed. Ya know... one of those deals where it's up for a couple of hours... there's a huge buzz then Apple gets it pulled. Then I hit the boards and I'm like... what PHOTO?!
Apple did a good job of keeping the LCD iMac under wraps... I don't remember any leaked images other than the Time Magazine screw up.
But if there's a sealed pallet of shiny new 970's sitting around... the temptation has to be HUGE to crack one open and be the first to let the cat outta the bag.
I think WWDC is being transformed into a event to reward developers... reveal an amazing piece of hardware to developers and it's gotta generate excitement for a very important part of Apple's plan.
I check the boards constantly too. Which I check while at work. At home is another story... dial-up and a PPC 7500... I KNOW. So I dont' even bother... which leaves me missing the latest greatest buzz... See what happens when you hold out for 3 years waiting for the NEXT tower to come out.

Maybe the wait will be over this summer.
Three years??? Wasn't the 7500 discontinued in 1996 ??? That's seven years
Well I got good use out of it for 3 years... Thought about getting a new machine for a year... but got one at work... then got a fast DSL connection at work... so haven't really needed a new machine that badly... but now I wanna learn Final Cut Pro and get to play with all the OSX goodness.
I have a scsi scanner and an Apple printer too! anyone want them? Probably will keep the monitor and toss the Mac.

If it is leaked, it will be loudly ravaged as an utter fake and photoshop second-rate job that everyone on these boards could easily out produce.
That's why I trust a simple black on white line drawing or schematic. It's either right or wrong. It's not pretending to be a photo... and you don't debate whether it has been retouched or not.

Exactly!
In fact, I'm still waiting for an insider with some wit to take a clandestine picture of an Apple machine, do a pretty good job of mocking it up in PS based on the pictures, and post it.

No mention of hardware? How 'bout this?
"Apple is likely to promote the newly 64-bit-capable version of Project Builder as the quintessential vehicle for developing Mac OS X applications that tap the capabilities of the new breed of Power Macs based on IBM?s PowerPC 970 processor."
Sounds like a direct confirmation of 970 Power Macs to me.

Well, OK then. The odds that the 970 will be a feature of WWDC just got better (not that I thought they were bad).
NMR basically says they'll be announced there (because Apple will have to publish the names of the TBA conferences at some point, and the cat will be out of the bag), but he says nothing about the machines being released there. So they're obviously imminent, but it's hard to say more than that.
Curiously, no-one else is backing up MacBidouille. They've pulled scoops before, so they could be right, but it's still interesting to watch. Normally that kind of information spreads through the rumor community like wildfire.
. . . he says nothing about the machines being released there [at WWDC]. So they're obviously imminent, but it's hard to say more than that. . .
I'll go out on a limb and say that Apple must be going to introduce 970 PowerMacs by WWDC. If I'm off base on this, surely everyone will let me know. When Apple introduces the 64-bit Panther OS and says to developer, "Go make 64-bit application," the developers will want to know what hardware these applications will run on. Will it be servers, special high-end workstations or everyday pro Power Macs? Developers need to know the market(s) they are making 64-bit applications for. They may like to know what processor is being used too, but if nobody writes machine code these days it may not be important.
There just doesn't seem to be any good way to pussy foot around Apple announcing 64-bit hardware by WWDC. If there is, please let me know.

There isn't. Steve must personally demo 970 based Power Macs at WWDC. The only question is whether they'll be prototypes or the actual retail boxes with immediate availability. I'm betting on the former, but hoping for the latter.
Apple may not reveal the TBA items until the WWDC keynote, if then. Remember, technically, this is all subject to NDA - meaning they don't have to reveal the TBA content publicly to anyone NOT attending WWDC.
I think an important thing to find out is if alot of press has been invited to the Keynote. The press doesn't really need to be there for a demo of Panther.

Yep, me too but then again I tend to live on these types of boards...

Could meld two TV shows together with a transparent aluminum PowerPC case.
