Anything new worth screen-shooting or mostly speed / stability fixes? Changes to labels for example? Finder?
[Edit] Just caught the screenshots on AI's front page. Looks like wireless keyboards and mice be in our future for sure at this point -- either from Apple or other parties. Cool.
Sorry if I've missed this in prior discussions: Does Panther's finder have a method of sorting the display in column view by name/date/etc as in list view? This drives me nuts in 10.2. I prefer column view but I'm alsway switching to list view to sort things. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to have a menu above each column that lets you change the sort preference.
No there is no way to do this in column view. I kinda see what your saying, but I'm not sure it would be a good idea. *thinking...

Why not? Column view is like a heirarchy of list views. Why can't there be a little thingy at the top of the column that offers the choice of columns found under list view. Offcourse, only one column at a time otherwise its a complet mess.
Would each column have a different view? How would the finder remember this? Or would choosing sort by "date modified" sort every column after that this way? Would it do this in realtime? Only the visible ones? I mean all the columns are there just not showing.
It could be done, but I'm guessing they don't because it has the potential to be complex and confusing..

I agree it's a hard problem to solve, but it's solvable if it's considered important enough. Path Finder does it, and it works, but in a fairly clumsy way.
I think each column should be sortable, and the Finder should have some visible indicator showing the status of that column, and allowing it to be changed. It would set in View Options, or by contextual menu. The Finder would remember settings per column in DS_Store just as it remembers other window information.
There's a whole thread that discusses how it could work here.
But it looks like this won't be coming for Panther, and we'll have to wait a whole 'nother year for it.
Inkhead, is that... your girlfriend or just some teen porn honey you found at your favorite smut site? Or is it you, maybe? Because you know, she would make for an excellent Desktop Wallpaper subject. Apple has clearly missed the boat and needs to explore such options more closely.

I really don't see it as being so complex. Column view is simply showing what you see in list view when you have the sort order set by name. In other words, your seeing the first column from list view.
All I want is an easy method to choose to sort the column by the other options available in list view. Default as is now, but give me a menu at the top of the column to sort the contents by another means. I suppose a control key menu would work as well.
I don't know enough about programming to know how hard it would be for the finder to remember that the last time a particular folder was opened that it was sorted by creation date for example. I could live with a default sort based on the name.
In my mind, I don't see wy each column could not be sorted individually when being viewed in the finder. Generally the way my files are kept results in a pyramid. The left side of column view has view drives>folders>sub folders etc. Its usually at the right end were I reach a folder with all my projects that it gets to be a large number of items. That's were having the most recently saved item being a the top would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link!
But I agree that what I saw there was much too complicated. It has too be easier than switching to list view, which is what I do now to get my choice of sort options.
A contextual menu seems like the obvious choice. While were at it, we need one of those trianagles at the top of each column to switch the list between ascending and descending mode.

Now the ascending and descending part sounds very possible and like a good idea.

Yes, the Applescript solutions in that thread are not helpful.
I think column view was solely meant as a simple list view that showed the path of the folder or file that you've currently selected. It would be hard to get it to sort to other options and make it like a list view, IMO. It wouldn't look right either..unless it would be set in View Options...
...which actually sounds like a good idea...but I dunno, just saying what I think.
