if not, i can see the reason being that quartz extreme has been so utilized that they broke beige compatibility (with OEM video) to make progress in display speed and innovation.

anybody know? i saw one spec a while ago saying panther ran on everything jag runs on, and then i saw a rumor that it wouldn't.

If Quartz Extreme wouldn't work, then *tons* of models wouldn't go, at least not without a better vid/card.

    *Some Blue & White

    *Most CRT iMacs

    *Pre-700Mhz (800Mhz high-end) iBooks

*PowerBooks before G4, plus some TiBooks.

I don't think that they'd kill all those models.

It worked in earlier builds of panther, but now it only sees the workgroup and the computer but doesnt find the shared printers on the windows machine. I am sure I have made the printers shared as well. Would restarting the windows machine do anything??? Has anyone else gotten either of these to work?

The afp:// is supposed to be there when connecting to another Mac. Don't know about the other problems.

so, do files created in the terminal appear instantly in the Finder yet (as of 7b49)? or do you still have to clic on the window?

    >>Obligatory, general reminder to notify Apple of serious or repeatable build problems, and not just your favorite Mac fora. That is all....<<

Actually it's been removed because I said so. Deal with it.

Second the top is now considered a toolbar just for keeping buttons and such. Just use the draw on the side, you can even slide it so it's just icon size and moving over the icons will immediately show you the name of the file. Just deal with it, or go cry elsewhere.

If you dont like to use it, don't use it, that pretty simple right?

isn't it kinda cool if people do want to use it that they can?

Why must it always be or that or that, why not have it both

    and let user decide

    C.H.O.I.C.E

I mean in diskUtlity's toolbar shortcuts wouldn't have function coz

there is nowhere to go, but in a program that you use to get to places,

find stuff, open things etc (Finder) shortcuts in the toolbar make

perfect sense imo coz it helps you find, open and get there even

    faster.

and now you can have even more on top and on side, COOL!

anyway, enough already, we shall see in the Final

Well what if you had a lot of shortcuts and the side runs out? (this is not my case, just asking.) Would the side pane scroll?

The icons in the bar shrink until they are at there smallest and then they will start to scroll. One thing I love is how what you put in that bar appears in all save and open panels big time saver.

Sure man, whatever turns you on, rocks your boat

and makes you feel king of your mighty castle.

Just follow the crowd, that is a safe place.

If people start slagging someone for their opinion or

preferences just jump on the bandwagon, hitch a ride.

btw, the functionality hasn't been removed but is still there.

Oh, st00pid me, I forgot... they put it back in at my request.

Did Apple personally tell you what for and how the Findertoolbar

    is to be used now?

Perhaps you should try to 'deal' with some issues you seem to

    have yourself?

Who are you to tell me to deal or go cry somewhere else?

Did I give you permission to be rude? Think not.

Respect man, that is the key.

( as said: you respect me I respect you, if you don't why should I?)

Because *I* said knock it off.

    Now.

Next post in the above tone on this topic will result in a 24 hour account supsension, longer if I feel like it. Capice?

(And if anyone *REALLY* feels the need to post a "But Maaaaaaaaa..." whine directed at me, PM it instead. Keep it out of here.)

Well, my next question is now why the heck does it automatically put the afp:// before the network address. I'm trying to connect to a windows computer here, not a Mac. How does Apple expect us to connect to windows comps when they auto put that extension before the address. Jaguar never did that.

How about typing smb:// before your address.

Not sure if this has been asked already, I have only read about 5 of these 17 pages.

Does panther address the Home, End key situation? It seems that in cocoa apps, I have to use Apple+Right to goto the end of a line, and in carbon Apps the home and end keys work like windows.

Is this an inconsistency apple are gonna address? do we just have to put up with it till all apps are cocoa? or am I missing some hidden key sequence, after all I am a relative newcomer.

What I'd like to know is if it's possible in column mode to still have a folder, say your Documents folder, open up but with all the previous folders showing (a-la 10.2) unlike what I've seen where you open up a folder that's a few layers deep but it doesn't show the previous folders?

It shows the folders back to the starting point.

Start from Documents and you won't see any folder before that.

Start from the HD and you'll see them all.

This is rather annoying.... and there's no way to change this behaviour? Sometimes it's easy to copy one file to another folder simply by being able to go drag it a few folders back instead of opening up a new window. Grrr... well, it seems I've got some new feedback to send Apple.

Press Cmd-Up and you'll go one level up AND it will show you all the previous folders.

    They did think about it

*phew* It's an extra step but at least it's there! I was worried from all these screenshots I'd seen that I wouldn't be able to navigate backwards like I'm used to if I open a folder that's a few levels deep.

It's actually kind of nice that clicking on Applications in the side pane only shows you the apps, clicking on Documents only shows you the docs and so on.

Users don't suddenly get lost, and when you have clients whose homedirs are on a server, their homedir is buried quite deep.

I suppose I've never gotten lost that way... but I guess I can see how one might. I've always thought of it as being a convenience being able to see the previous folders in one window sort of like having other windows open in the classic Finder but without the excessive clutter.
