Ok, that was the craziest baseball game I ever watched. So many ups and downs. Also, it's very windy here in the Northeast today, and during the game, a huge tree fell in my back yard, nearly hitting my house. This was right as the Yankees made their first comeback and went up 5-4. It was a very bad omen.
But somehow, the Red Sox were down a few times in the game and managed to battle back and win to force another Pedro Martinez vs. Roger Clemens matchup tomorrow.
Now everybody in Chicago knows that he's Steve Bartman, 26, of Northbrook, Ill., and that he works at Hewitt Associates, an international consulting firm in Lincolnshire, Ill. And, now they know that because of the notoriety of his inadvertent act, he did not report to work Wednesday morning.

...or possibly sitting in front of his TV with a bottle of JD in one hand and a loaded revolver in the other.

So tell us, if a tree falls in your backyard, and no one is around to hear it except a paranoid Red Sox fan worried about the curse of the Bambino, does the tree make a sound like the crack of Bucky Dent's bat? I swear that between that punk bitch Pedro and all of the Red Sox fans whining about stupid shit like trees falling due to the wind as a bad omen of what will happen in a baseball game I'm about ready to root for the goddamn yankees. I hope you have nightmares about Mookie Wilson, Ray Knight and Jesse Orosco tonight.
I am very very happy for Pudge. I didn't give a crap about any of these teams, really, until I saw that replay of Pudge running out from behind home plate.
As a Rangers fan I am happy to see him going to a World Series, as much as I loved him when he was here we were never committed to actually winning.
GO MARLINS!
Also, all the (literally) boo-hooing Cubs fans need to get a goddam grip.
1) The Marlins are clearly a better team than Chicago, down 3-1 or not. They pitched better up and down their rotation, they hit more consistently and they played better defense. Other than that one game where they got destroyed, they pretty much owned the Cubs in clutch situations.
2) The Cubs need to go buy a couple middle relievers this winter. Once they get Patterson back they'll have an arm again in the OF. But they need middle relief. I think Farnsworth could be a good closer if he can learn to pitch from the windup. He's not effective at all from the stretch.
3) Baseball is a lot more mental than people think it is. The Cubs players are so ingrained with the crapola about curses and 95 years and all the rest, that they truly believe they have a monkey on their back / have a tougher road than other teams to get a big win.
After Wood's bad inning, they were mentally destroyed; you could see it in their eyes / posture. The fans are the same way. Suffering bastards to the end.
4) The World Series won't be worth watching because the Marlins are in it, and because two years from now you probably won't recognize half the guys whose names you learned this week. What a tragedy that a team with zero tradition beats out a team like the Cubs. Especially with the Sox potentially waiting on the other side.
Fuk. I am so glad I do not follow the Cubs closely. If I did I'd be doing something stupid right now. If they don't win it next year (and they legitimately will have a good shot), forget it. Another 50 years will go by because the team will get broken up in the off-season, manager canned, etc.

Those are pretty harsh words for guys you have no bad history to hurt them. Like I said, how can you fault Lowell, Pudge, Cabrera, Pierre, Castillo, Urbina, Beckett, Encarnacion, Dontrelle, etc. Encarnacion lead the NL in assists didn't he. Lowell was the talk of league before the trading deadline. Urbina was the hot pitching trade. Pudge is just...you gotta love Pudge. Pierre has a babyface, reminds me of Willie Davis. Cabrera's got a baby face too, and he's going to be huge season after season. Just wait till he starts bulking up...Wow.
Hopefully the ownership will do the right thing and keep the team mostly intact. Lowell and Pudge are definitely gone, but they should be able to keep the young guys.
It's too bad that the Cubs didn't make it. I never thought the Marlins would make a comeback being down 3-1, especially when heading back to Chicago and having to face Prior and Wood.
Well, the ALCS wraps up tonight in New York with Pedro vs. Roger Part 3. Wakefield will be ready for a relief appearance for the Red Sox, and we'll have to see which pitchers are ready for the Yankees besides Rivera, since everyone pitched yesterday. We might see Timlin pitch an inning for the Red Sox as well if he's needed.
One thing that irritates the shit out of me and makes it damn near impossible for me to root for the "cursed" teams is their fans and their belief that they are owed a championship.
If the World Series isn't a NorthEast team vs. a NorthEast team then we'll hear huge cries about how it's not a worthy World Series.
Well guess which World Series no one gave a shit about... Mets v. Yankees.
I was with the Cubs until I saw them freaking out about the foul-ball fan, so now I'm back to where I was; (no offense Fran, but) I hope the Red Sox and the Cubs never win another playoff game again.
I hope they wallow in "it should be us!" self-pity for eternity and sports media continues to obsess over the northeast while the Arizona Diamondbacks and Florida Marlins rack up World Series trophies.
Self pity? Who in Red Sox Nation is feeling self pity THESE days? Even when things are going bad it ain't self pity most BoSox fans feel. More like self loathing. We're not owed a World Series trophy. We're just hoping that this time, this team is the one that will finally bring one back to Boston.
And I was hoping for the Cubs to advance too. It would have been great if all those who kept saying "1918" (not just MFY fans bit A's fans too) realized too late they WEREN'T razzing the BoSox and their fans. They were actually invoking the baseball gods to give us a Cubs, Red Sox World Series rematch where the Sox would beat the Cubs 4 games to 2. If only life could be that poetic.
But the Marlins won instead because they deserved to win. I didn't think they would even get past the Giants but they keep proving me wrong. A week ago I would have thought they'd be an easier team to beat if the Sox get to the WS too. Now I'm not so sure.
You're just bitter because your Rangers aren't there, Grover. Don't get bitter. Get better.
Nice move. Leave the starting pitcher in and let him get beat up. Pull an effective reliever and then throw 8 straight balls. Jeez. If the Sox lose I'm not even going to watch the world series.

Man, someone just gave me a ticket to the game. In about ten minutes I'm heading for the D on my way to the stadium!!!!
Now I'm bitter. Man! Do I wish I was you right now.
oh well, frees up some evenings for me now, with no world series to watch.
