Uhhh...did anyone see my setup. Look above. You can't say Luca Rescigno's is messy after looking at mine. I know I said I cleaned my desk, but it has since gotten messy again and will soon see the addition of quite a bit of musical equipment.
DMBand - it's not messy, it's "a place for everything and everything in its place."
Truly a 2004 set up pic, as I got the 30 gig iPod last week and a 15" 1.25 ghz Powerbook last Friday. Went from a 12" 867 mhz Powerbook with a 17" LCD to this simplified setup. I have a gig of ram on the way too. I have made many of my fellow graphics students jealous with this fine machine.
I'll get myself a second monitor eventually... but I spent a lot this past weekend, even with my student discount. To think: I saved $410. Imagine how much I spent.
Oh yeah, I saved $800 on software today too... dang.
wow, the blue and white looks pretty good from that angle.
Thanks. It seems as though most of the people that owned them ended up taking pictures from the worst possible light angles, the angles that made the machine look almost aquablueishfruitlike. But it is in fact, a very dark color. So I tried to get an angle that actually showed off the true color of the machine, even through the flash of the camera.
I miss my little smurf... With that 900MHz 750FX upgrade and QuartzExtreme using the PCI hack, it was very speedy. In all honesty, it felt just as fast as my QuickSilver, and the differences between the two machines are only noticeable during tasks that have AltiVec optimizations, but stuff like the Finder and basic applications felt the same speed. And IMO, the B&W looked much better than my QuickSilver case. But aesthetics cast aside, I wanted a machine that had a little bit more potential when it came to upgrading, specifically AGP and a non-ZIF processor architecture.
One thing I forgot to mention - look at the handles on my G4 tower. I got a replacement set of clear ones, to replace the original ones that had the "ribs" on them. I prefer the new look.
Won't bore you with a pic of my setup - it's a mess I'm ashamed to show anyway.
BUT the pics I have seen have started a train of thought.
People seem happy to place their desks against a wall. Reviewing the many years I have worked in offices, I realise that I am uncomfortable sitting with my back to an open room. Maybe it's paranoia, maybe it's the result of having worked 10 years as a management consultant (always cover your back).
I wonder how many others prefer to sense something solid behind them?
My current work set-up is horrible in that regard: my back is to the entire office.
And I'm the kinda guy that needs to sit facing the door/main area of a restaurant or any other public place, so imagine my distress.
At home, my desk is in my bedroom, facing a wall adjacent to the door. A quick glance to the right allows me to see down the hallway, into the kitchen and most of the living room. MUCH better. The only behind me is my bed.

nice luca. how is that mac working out? you can view your eMac a few posts up.
The shot with Murbot's 3-year-old (really just three?!!!) is priceless! What do you let her do on it? I'm sure you're extremely careful with your little angel...just watch out for when they're 12 and up!
And all the 15" AlBooks are already making me itch for something fresher, despite that I haven't even had my TiBook for a year, yet. But I have promised myself that I will only replace this with a G5 PowerBook, whenever that time comes!
This photo totally makes me want to get an iMac for my next computer. I'll be waiting for the iMac to go G5 and hopefully they don't really change the general shape of the thing- its beautiful!

It is great. I have never been more satisfied with a computer in my life, and that's good. There are always upgrades I COULD get, but nothing that really jumps out. A nicer monitor, larger/faster hard drives, and processor upgrades all jump out as possible things. But really, it's good enough as it is, so I don't see any reason to spend more money.
Nice to see my old eMac again. Hope you enjoy it as much as I like the DP450.
Don't worry, no new computers in my house this week.
Just changed it around a bit, put the iBook up on the stand and put the LaCie 52x FW CD-RW under there along with a stack of CD-Rs. (for purely legit backups of course)

One new item is the 40GB iPod that I got for my birthday today. Life is good.

I'm also running the display hack, so the 17" Flat CRT is doing 1280x960 at 90Hz to go along with the 1024x768 on the iBook. Gotta love the hack.
The iBook is the 12" 800MHz model, with a 60GB HD, 640MB of RAM, and AirPort Extreme (combo drive, of course).

JK, 99% of my posts are done on a x86 box anyway.

I have since replaced Papa Smurf with the beast in my signature.

Psychiatrists need not reply.
