I think most people have figured out that the mini is made for the females. They care about fashion, style, and size. The mini can more easily fit into tight jean pockets or small handbags. And they can match! They don't need to pay $50 more for space they aren't even going to use.
The regular iPod is for the gadget geek who has big pockets (in the literal and economic sense) and feels that capacity is more important than size and style.
