Perhaps Apple are thinking more in terms of 'Teraflops' rather than Ghz, remember the G4 adverts regarding the world's first desktop supercomputer?

Would a quad G4 PowerMac hit 1 Teraflop, I don't know, any ideas?

Steve has stated the future of Apple is as a Digital Hub so by your own theory on Monday we will be seeing an extension of that. I really wouldn't expect G5s as you currently are...

going where no PC has gone before

    hmmmm

I'm thinking software...something super, that vioce recognization idea could do it, combined with super connectivity(gigawire) amongst your digital world....I see some REALLY futuristic things happening there imagine having your whole digital world respond perfectly to your voice?...furthermore imagine incorporating your hosue into the mix, get your doors opening and your lights turning on("illuminate"..they go on

but then again, this has been done, but not very well.....hmmmm

    what could it be

basically apple has somethign that we haven't thought of that is going to blow us away, it could be either software or hardware, but whatever it is, apples teasers are working(causing loopholes in our speculations)

I liked this latest one, it wasn't as good as the rumor sites one, but it beat yesterdays one

however juxtaposition of the 4 teasers creates a nice balance

start off with a vague one(its going to be big)

hit them hard(beyond the rumor sites)

    retract(backstage pass to the future)

then hit them again(going where no Pc has gone before)

tommorrow they will probably hit us hard again though, because its the 2nd to last day, or they could go soft and then hit us super hard on the last day before MWSF, so its really too late for any real rumors to mean anything

    har har har

    this is fun

I'm going to go watch cowboy bebop and conan

    Please don't. Not OS X on x86...

maybe space? As in Apple buying or having an exclusive deal with Skycorp, as in global broadband for Apple owners ONLY.

I believe that Apple's future plans rely HEAVILY on broadband for the masses, which just hasn't happened yet.. Once they do, Quicktime TV and global connectivity for all!! Computers, PDA's, Ipods, etc....</strong><hr></blockquote>

I could go for that...I can get nothing but regualr 56k modem on my machine. I am ready to ay bye-bye to it.

You don't even want to know how much it costs to launch satellites, yet alone enough of them in low ordbit so the lags aren't intolerable.....

Ask Iridium or Teledesic if they think it was a good idea.

This much I can guarantee, there will will most definitely NOT be anything on a user level that has ANYTHING at all to do with outerspace.

I think this is the right idea. In fact I'm convinced this is it. Some sort of satellite or broadcast tower based Mac-only wireless network. Airport without the base station. The base station, if not necessarily global, would at least serve entire communities.</strong><hr></blockquote>

i don't believe apple really has got the money for something like this ... satellites, pfff

Well, Skycorp seems to have figured out a way to cut costs drastically.. Mind you, this is still in a testing phase, but maybe "It's like a backstage pass to the future."

Here's a link about it on Apple's site..

Future and Star Trek references gave me a wild

    idea:

What do all future computers have in common?

HAL 9000 and the Star Trek's computer both

    converse with their user...

Will Apple show us a speech synthesis/voice

    recognition breakthrough?

I've wondered how, given the development schedules

that OS X has seen, did Speech make it into such a

prominent position in OS X? After all, it has been

in OS &lt;X since the 840av and didn't make dent,

so why in the world spend the time to port it?

And I've wondered why does OS X have a pulldown in

speech to allow you to choose a recognition engine

    if there's only one available?

Speech doesn't do much for me personally. I know

the problems. But, it would capture the public's

    imagination wouldn't it?

Well... any questions? This satellite thing might have to be ruled out for cost reasons (and I don't like it being ruled out, sounds soooooo cool ). But a Satellite-WAN would make sense, because:

    a) Apple has been relying on broadband access (and everyone who had to d/l the latest OS updates via a 56k line knows that)

    b) It would fit in with ALL of the slogans:

"Big. Even by our standards" - a Space Rocket is sorta big, ain't it?

"Count the hours... on being blown away" - a rocket launch countdown comes to mind

"Beyond the rumor sites. Way Beyond" - even beyond our atmosphere?

"Backstage pass to the future" - if a WAN via Satellite isn't the future, what else?

"To boldly go where no PC has gone before" - Star Trek, which points to Space

    c) A single satellite could never cover the whole planet. But it might be enough to start with the U.S.. And did anyone notice that the United States page of Apple is the only one to carry the slogans?

Okay... this is a *C* *O* *O* *L* idea. But, to be honest, it's kinda hard to believe it

ok, sat. is too expensive when it cost around $15k per pound. but apple had a thing where a cube was going to fly a solar powered plane over large cities. it doesnt fly in outer space but way up in the stratosphere like 90,000+ feet. the plane was to act as a airport station. someone else once said that apple might buy earthlink. if apple had both earthlink and the ability to provide wireless broadband with the simple purchase of an airport card, that would be everything.

Okay, this has been noted down - I'm looking forward to the pict.
