"The company commercializes 15.3-inch and 17-inch models.-4-times resolution against conventional Cathode Ray Tubes, fit for digital broadcasting.-By adding 30-inch and 40-inch designs, Samsung will be armed with a full product lineup in 2002.-The LCD TV market is forecast to grow from 1.9 million units in 2002 to 8 million units by 2005."
Hmmmm......
15.3 inch TFT-LCD. Did anybody know who was using 15.3 inch TFT-LCD ?
YES APPLE !
Guess What iMac II might use it's TFT-LCD monitor.
Is this "webPad" concept the i**** v2 project you have mentioned in the past? Are you saying Samsung will manufacture a "webPad" type product to fit into the digital hub concept for Apple or will Sony and Apple use gigaWire or Firewire 2 to be the link for digital hub concept?
[quote]Samsung Electronics launches TFT-LCD TV business with wide screen 15.3-inch and 17-inch sizes. The company is also scheduled to come out with 22-inch and 30-inch class versions in 2002. Including the 40-inch TFT-LCD TV developed last August, Samsung is geared with a full product lineup that ranges from 15 inches to 40 inches.
<hr></blockquote>
Now imagine a 40-inch Cinema Display.
Screed... must not be tempted to get a loan for a monitor!!
" The 23W TFT-LCD, designed for monitors and HDTVs is a wide UXGA model, offering a wide viewing angle of 160 degrees - reducing gray scale inversions and ensuring color integrity, regardless of the viewer°Øs position. With a 1920 x 1200 resolution, the 23W display was developed to meet OEM demands for a larger, wider LCD format, and is based on LG.Philips LCD°Øs award-winning 22W platform. Similar to other LG.Philips LCD displays, the 23W°Øs slim design (only 25mm thick) requires less workspace, while the display itself consumes less power, emits lower electromagnetic radiation, and lessens end-user eyestrain, compared to a CRT-based solution of similar resolution and size. As an added benefit, the 23W can also fit into the footprint of some existing 22-inch monitor designs, significantly reducing the system integration costs for OEMs. The 23W is slated to begin mass production in late January 2002."
The current Apple Cinema Display used 22W one.
And who was the only OEM company for the 22W model ? APPLE.
For the other TFT Monitor,
"LG.Philips LCD°Øs new 17W display is designed for new wide monitor formats, all-in-one PCs, and personal computer TV (PCTV) applications. The wide-format display offers 1280 x 768 resolution, a color saturation of 65 percent, brightness of 400cd/m2, and a fast response time of 25ms. Furthermore, it is extremely thin (16.2 mm) and weighs only 19 grams. Volume production of the 17W will begin by late this December. "
- It was Year 2001 article.
"In an effort to meet the OEM demands for standardized LCD sizes, LG.Philips LCD also unveiled the 30W TFT-LCD for today°Øs HDTV market. The 30W boasts an impressive, wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, a brightness of 450 cd/m2, and a resolution of 1280 x 768. The 30W provides better clarity by removing most of the color-spreading phenomenon usually associated with LCDs and moving pictures. In addition to its large screen size and slim form factor (46 mm), this display also offers a high contrast ratio of 450:1 and an aspect ratio of 16:9.6. "
"In an effort to meet the OEM demands for standardized LCD sizes,"
Who is this OEM company that want to standardized LCD sizes for ALL WIDE FORMAT ?
APPLE!
You will see new LCD Display from Apple that All new Display are WIDE and HDTV ready spec.
Guess why APPLE wanted to get rid of current LCD Display by end of last year ?
It always appeared to me that you have the strongest ties to the display industry as it relates to Apple. All of your guesses seem to be grounded in knowing first the displays and sizes Apple is interested in, guessing the form factor, and deducing the purpose from other ancillary information.
<strong>Given JRC's observation, perhaps Kormac has some display info that will lead to a projection in the area of touch sensitve displays or HRW?</strong><hr></blockquote>
I think it's his inside info that Apple HAS recently been interested in touch-screen displays, that have led to speculate on iPad-ish items. If you know Apple needs a 5 x 7 inch, touch sensitive LCD to try out in the labs, then you know enough to figure out SOMETHING.
Furthermore, it appears that most of these are from Korean(ish) firms. So, if there is a company that acts as an internation go-between, and perhaps even is SUPPOSED TO keep their clients 'secret' then that points to the whereabouts of Kormac77 in the pipeline.
I would think that he is NOT associated/employed by LG, Samsung and AlphaTop all simultaneously. I would think that he has to establish the contact between them and Apple. Perhaps even something like a corporate translation service - though we all know they could do better than Kormac - don't we?
Or, if there is some geek intercepting Korean/English transmissions and correspondence, that's possible.
There are many possibilities and I'm always thinking.
<strong>A 17-inch widescreen iMac could explain the purported $1800 price tag.
But that may preclude a G4. Apple might not work in and both and still make a profit.
Screed</strong><hr></blockquote>
I don't think Apple can afford to do a 15" iMac with the quality that Samsung is putting out AND AND AND be HDTV capable TOO. They should be able to cough up a 15" LCD iMac with a lower quality Samsung LCD or at least with a cheap LG, given their investment in Samsung and LG would like to get/keep business, too.
But, the HDTV capability, and increased specs especially a superdrive I (not II in the iMac) would push it more to $2000 IN MY OPINION.
Samsung has some FINE HDTV LCDs. They are nice looking to these diseased eyes, I'll tell you.
Question: Why would Sony help Apple to become to digital hub platform of choice, when Sony makes their OWN computers and multimedia devices (MP3 players etc.)?
Part5 is about i****v2 & Apple's DigitalHub PLAN. Which will make new way of computing Environment.
I think Matsu will join here soon.
To Matsu:
The story in here is my prediction. The prediction is based on my experience with this industry.
As we know, no computer company can make product without parts. To make product, you have to use many part from around world. And to make it, quiet many people can involve with it. I might be one of the link.
I have quiet some information about APPLE but I am not Insider.
You will see what it is from coming product.
Again, I will make clear.
I don't work for APPLE & company which work for Apple directly.
And What steve will do Monday is only Steve know.
Is it O.K with you ?
P.S.: I don't change my story. If you check with my old post, you will know what I am talking about.

Do you stand by your specs for the towers? Do you stand by OSX.2?
What is GigaWire? Can't be FireWire2...
Check this site & think what APPLE can fit into.

Also there is product concept " WebPad" in it.
Think about what Apple can do, if APPLE is thinking same concept.

Part3 will be coming shortly.
All-in-one PC. Hmmm.........
Will iMac II might use this display ?
- It might happen, except the price is not concerned. I don't think so.
The 30W will not be made as product in this spring. It will be for later this year.
i****v2 is seperate product.
The samsung's concept is very limited. It is only Web able terminal for home network and it does not have many function which only APPLE can make.
If Apple call i****v2 as iPAD, I will not suprise.
I will talk about it at my part 5 story.
To SYN:
Gigawire is Next version of Firewire: IEEE1394b. However there is IEEE1394g spec which is wireless protocol.
I think APPLE is putting both concept as one name. Therefor It will not to be confused.
You have to see the concept of Firewire. Originally , it was design to use as connecting protocol for computer , like Harddisk, Printer.
But Sony use it for CAMcoder and many other way of use has been developed and the use will increase very large soon.
New IEEE1394b & 1394g added new functinalty to the protocol that it can do something no other could imagine!
And M$ still don't understand it !

You are partially correct.
Fran441: I think APPLE will come up with 17 inch iMac in future when the price is come down. But current price is not fit with iMac concept yet.
But TFT-LCD price will go down much faster than anybody can guess due to the many use of TFT-LCD in non-computer monitor area.
Allen: i****v2 use touch sensitve display. So as PALM.
But that may preclude a G4. Apple might not work in and both and still make a profit.
