You do realise even that url makes the comment, "As much as we love to get the official word straight from the horses mouth, we can't help but feel like this is like the time the head coach was denying rumors of his star quarterback getting traded, right before the trade goes through." Even your post to deny the rumour is stating they feel it has credibility.
At this stage it should only be a matter of time. If I had an interest in that company I'd want to know why they were ignoring 70% of the market this year.
Engadget has no credibility. The article was written by Ben Drawbaugh an admitted Blu-ray fan. Their crediblility is near zero since they often write articles and then have to backtrack quickly. No one gives a shite about what they feel as an organization.

More importantly still, why does somebody read and post on a site that they feel has no credibility? Yet there's murch on Engadget, in black and white (or whatever their color scheme is).

Engadget still has value, however their staff is comprised of a bunch of part timers and people who obviously do not have journalistic training. I treat "everything" there as an editorial opinion and not based in fact other than what is in a press release.

Damnit Kolchack! That's not as important as finding out if Murch knows Tom Servo!
Well I've finally put my money where my mouth is and bought a PS3.
came with a free BD copy of Talladega Nights, I've watched the first 10-15 mins of it and its deffinately an improvement over DVD, I have a friend who has a DVD of Casino Royal so I plan on buying the BD version for comparison.
After I find out if I can see enough of a differance between the 2 formats I will make my decision to become a BD movie collector or not.
As a side note, I also bought Motorstorm and it is a LOT of fun
DL'd Gran Turismo over night so I think I will give that a good work out later today.
To hmurchison : Even if I don't plan on investing too heavily in BD movies, I WILL be buying more than the 1:2 - 1:3 paltry attach rate you suggest, but of course I'm not a "typical" PS3 owner, of course, who is?

Regardless of BD or HD-DVD, high definition trailers are not just an improvement over DVD when watched on the appropriate resolution and especially on a computer display from a short distance. May I suppose that you used a common TV? Or do you mean BD vs. HD-DVD?
Hmmm.... of the 2 Walmarts nearest me, 1 has recently started putting Blu-ray marketing materials all over the dvd area. No hd-dvd or blu-ray players (except ps3 and xbox) and no movies as of yet. Also no hd-dvd marketing materials. Anyone else have a walmart currently selling these things?
keep the FUD to yourself..... but what would BD cheerleaders do w/out it?... Slow on BD flash?
Not spreading FUD, just listing a rumor, that was stated as a rumor in the article, that was started by a well respected German IT site.
Wow, touchy, touchy. Does, the thought of Universal going neutral make you nauseus? Seeing how you've already sunk so much in a format that may very well be the next Betamax. Otherwise, I don't see why you get all up in a tiffy over a posted rumor.
Slow on BD flash? No. BD is everywhere if you don't have your head in the sand...

As Casino Royal is a Sony studio film it would seem doubtful that I mean BD Vs HD-DVD. I mean what I type ie. standard DVD Vs BD.
Also I did not mention "trailers" I am referring to the full BD film of Talladega Nights, I'm sorry if that was not clear to you from my post.

No, that was clear but I mean there should not be a difference in visual quality between a trailer you can download from Apple and a commercial BD film. All I have seen is trailers (but only on computer screen) and the difference from DVD is striking.

Nah, I think there is plenty of BD flash around. I'm just looking forward to the flash gettting blindingly bright with POTC in about 10 days.
Hm... are you posting news or history of BD?
Well.... I've invested in two HD-DVD players, but I wouldn't call that "all in". I just bought a Dell labtop (core2duo with ati x1400) as a media pc with vista and I woudln't call myself windows zealot, either. I'm still waiting for the right Macmini to replace it, but I'm willing to wait.
Just like how things evolve in PC world, HiDef formats will evolve and likely to have something better and more powerfull format in next 4 to 5 years.... which would make current BD and HD-DVD obsolete. That's how this hobby evolves..... so, don't need to take my head out of the sand, yet.

If you cared to click on all of the links, they are all recent news happening this month (in the last 11 days), so no they're not history.
Also on another note, here is the data in regards to Nielsen/Videoscan numbers for the week ending May 6th...
As you can see, despite Blu-ray having fewer exclusive releases to being almost non-existant that week, it still has retained a 60%:40% ratio that week. The superiority in sales in favor of Blu-ray is really highlighted when you notice that Dreamgirls sold at much higher clip than its HD DVD counterpart.
Yes, but Planet Earth on HD-DVD outsold the BR version.

There's a difference. BR and HD-DVD look better. The bitrate is much higher. Apple's HD trailers look great in bright or detailed sequences, but the color banding during darker and subtly lit sequences is pretty atrocious (see the extended HD sequence from Ratatouille for an example).

Basically what gloss has said, I had viewed the trailers from Apple and thought they were fine in as far as they went.
I have heard/read many views on Hi-def PQ and so all I want to do is compare a recent DVD with a BD of the same film, and see for myself how subtle (or not) the differance is. On a 50" screen I find pixillation and colour banding from DVD an increasing distraction, it was also apparent on most of the downloads from Apple and other sources, but I think it would be foolish to judge on one disc (Talladega Nights) hence my proposed non scientific test

What I've found with BD is far and above the biggest improvement in BD is not the resolution but the colour improvement. Ice Age 2 on DVD looked positively dull in comparison to its BD counterpart.
I'm not going to go out and repurchase all the movies I have but I think I'd certainly try and pick up most of my new films on BD now.

Seriously, it only makes sense. They would be the worst run company if they didn't go neutral at some point. What company doesn't like better sales?
I do agree. The BD exclusive studios will eventually go neutral at some point. Soon, will realize PS3 kids don't regularly buy movies.
