yeah as days go buy it seems more and more realistic that there will be 10 20 30 gig ipods at the current price range.

damn shame if therse no 199 ipod.

I just want a 20giger...that will last me for a long time. I have all of my old cds ripped and it's almost 11gigs...I think the extra 9 will get me by for a while.

Apple Store UK has moved the 10GB iPOD and 20GB iPOD to 5-7 days build time.

This is an increase from the 1-2 days it was last week.

    Nothing.

    Again.

Someone convince me, please, to wait another week...

P.s. The only ray of hope is that CompUSA on their website lists none except the 20gb version & CDW is still empty: macmall and macwarehouse seem to have them in stock.

Order one now form The Apple Store.

If they build it and ship it, you'll be lucky to get it before next Tuesday.

When it arrives you'll have 10 days to send it back meaning you cover the next 2 Tuesdays for announcements.

There comes a time when you have to bite the bullet and go for it. Are you going to keep going for the next 3 months for example, hoping every Tuesday it gets updated

So bite the bullet and go for it.

1: if I buy it from an apple store does the same apply?

2: I can return it for ANY reason, like, I want a new one?

As with most stuff ordered on the internet you are protected and have the right to return the goods if they do not live up to what you wanted (as you have not seen them).

This is the case with Apple online here in the UK. I believe (and I'm sure I'll get corrected if wrong!) that across The Pond, you guys have the right to return to Apple if a lower price is announced within 10 days of receipt of goods.

I guess it amounts to the same thing but, check it out your side.

As for the Apple Store Retail Outlets, I don't know. Give your local one a ring and ask them what they would do in the event of a new product release within a couple of week s of purchase.

You never know, you may get lucky and they'll tell you to hang fire for a bit!!

I think my strategy will be this:

    Wait for 10.2.4

Wait for the Tuesday following its introduction.

If no iPod on that Tues, get some poster board, tempera paint, and bullhorn, and picket my AppleStore.

...then quietly walk in and buy one.

I think if you pay with a credit card, you have pretty much given yourself 30 days. Of course I could be wrong.

I need one too, so I wish you would buy one because they will probably release the new ones the Tuesday following your purchase and I don't want to wait any longer. Pleaasssee. Just press the Apple one-click button and we'll all be happy.

Apple never came out and said the iPod is going to get an update... Until Apple says different 'New iPods' is nothing more than 'fellow-mac-geek' speculation... If you NEED the iPod now then just buy one...

That being said it WOULD NOT shock me if the iPod did get an update in the next month or so but then again it WOULD NOT shock me if it didn't too...

If someone came here the day after MWSF and said: "In the next 6 weeks Apple will release: New PowerMacs, New LCDs, New iMacs **AND** New xServes oh and Xserve RAIDs too". He'd/She'd have been mocked off the boards... Trying to second guess Apple seems to be a loosing proposition these days.

P.s. if anyone more clever than I manages to dig up something interesting in what gets updated with 10.2.4 that is pertinent to this thread, and my sad situation, please let me know.

an update to the bluetooth file exchange app, which seems to allow the sending of music and pictures. it was in another thread...

    ipod with bluetooth support?
  • Reply 156 of 403
Bluetooth support would ruin the advantage of the iPod- fast transfer speeds. Unless apple unveils a wireless Firewire equivalent, it would be slow as hell for music transfer.

As for transfering contacts/calendar data, that would be different.

    Next Tuesday:

We've been squeezing our sources for any information on new iPods. At this point, we know for certain that refreshed iPods will arrive 'very soon.' Fear not for those of you who purchased the Burton Amp jacket, made for today's iPod, the form factor will remain the same while the cost will decrease by as much as $100USD! After probing our sources for a timeline on their arrival, we learned that new iPods could arrive as early as next week. If accurate, this would continue Apple's weekly product introduction.

iPod will (almost!) definitely be updated by Tuesday, without argument. The sizes will be 10, 20, and 40 gigabytes, without argument. But what about form factor? Will there be a "MiniPod" for those usatisfied whiners complaining about the relatively large dimensions of the iPod? Time will tell. I am confident that the rumored "real time buffer HDD" will be instituted in the new iPod. It has eight megabytes of buffer underrun protection, and is currently in production by Toshiba, the company that manufactures the HDD in the current 5, 10, and 20 gigabyte 'pods. Hope springs eternal!
