  • iFixit matches Apple's $29 battery swap cost, covers pre-iPhone 6 devices

Why would I order a kit for $29 from iFixit (and then do the work myself and risk damaging my device) when I can have an Apple authorized technician do the repair for me for the same price?
My iPhone 7+ had water damage (screen is slightly affected) but has worked fine for a year now. Apple refuses to do any work on it unless I replace entire screen so this ifixit deal is worth it to me.

  • Apple responds to reports of worn batteries forcing iPhone CPU slowdowns

Good detective work indeed but they're forming a narrative that maybe not everyone agrees with. It could be read as "planned obsolescence" but the actual story is more complex. Battery management makes sense and I would expect it. Notification makes sense as well though needs to thread the gap between notifying and not confusing.
Apple is doing hundreds of things like this in background. Do you want them to tell
you all of them? They couldn’t possibly know which ones would blow up on the internet until conspiracy theorists go to town. I’m not sure they could really be expected to do any more.

  • Jony Ive returns to hands-on control of Apple design team

Bad news for software. He should not have influence over software.
So you think iOS 11 was a success without him?
Not that you're necessarily saying this, but how do we know he had absolutely nothing to do with iOS 11? Just because he isn't sitting in his design studio in Cupertino, doesn't mean he can't have an influence on design at Apple.
Of course but if you’re going to ignore the headline and meat of this story, why are you even commenting?

I’m really just trolling here because so many people are insistent that iOS 11 is a complete disaster and also that Jony Ive hasn’t had a good contribution to Apple since Jobs died. So if you believe any ounce of this story, you would have to concede that those two things cannot truly co-exist.

  • iPhone X shipments from Apple improve to 2-3 weeks in US

The camera is said to be composed of two key parts dubbed "Romeo" and "Juliet," and "Romeo" parts are more difficult to manufacture, leading to an imbalance in supply.
Looks like we are heading for a happy ending!
I just crack up with all these comments about production issues surrounding True Depth components.

NOBODY, but NOBODY, outside of Apple, knows how many iPhone Xs Apple has contracted to have manufactured, or will manufacture, for this or any other quarter.  The idiot Kuo sounds off with a production constraint meme, a meme you can set your annual calendar to, and the blogosphere can't let it go, even after Apple totally discredits the rumor mongers.

Apple locked in design, specifications and production contracts last November.  In order to get a contract vendors have to be certified by Apple as to their ability to manufacture to spec, and in QUANTITY.  This was done a year ago.

Further Apple guided December quarter revenue between $84 Billion and $87 Billion (YoY growth 10.52% MINIMUM).  Apple's guidance implies iPhone YoY unit sales growth of ~7.8% (adjusted for increase in ASP) to a record 84 Million units MINIMUM.

Where, oh where, does production constraints come into play when iPhone X will only be available for two of three months this quarter?

DEMAND, and nothing else, is driving delivery delays, just as it has always done since 2007.
Since Apple doesn't manufacture these devices, I would wager that someone outside of Apple knows. I would also wager that Kuo has connections with these contractors which is what he bases estimates on. Of course this only represents one or two data points but that is more than enough for most rumors to spread.

"He believes that this model will be targeted toward the low-end and mid-range smartphone markets."

I don't think Kuo understands the price points in the mid and low end smartphone markets. Even before Apple shifted the high end smartphone market to +$1000, $650 and $750 were not mid or lower priced smartphones.
