Apple has had a history of poor engineering, they rank low in quality surveys. I have had 50% of my Macs fail. You can call me a troll all you like, live in your little dream world all you like.
50% of 0 is still 0.
People like you, that make claims like this - "I've been a Mac user since 19__, and Apple sucks" -- just don't have any credibility. You either don't own and maybe never have owned anything sold by Apple, are counting 15 year old systems in your numbers, or are completely irrational. I wouldn't keep buying Macs if 50% of them failed. No one else would either. Why would they. So it's not believable that you are a Mac owner with a 50% failure rate, and keep buying Apple hardware, and do nothing but come on here and engage in Apple bashing. Basic credibility gap.
We are all mortal. There is far too much for any of us to learn in one lifetime. One should choose to pursue knowledge from those sources that have proven reliable in the past. Rush Limbaugh is not one of those sources.

Well that tears it! I was trying to be patient with your posts and at least hearing what you had to say, but this claim is ridiculous (as in "Gizmodo is Ridiculous" from the YouTube song)
I have had Macs since 1987, starting with a used 512KE. I buy a new Mac at least every other year. I am a graphic/web designer so I rely on my Mac for my survival. At any given time I always have two computers so there is always a backup. Right now I have three, a MacPro, a MacBookPro and a MacMini. I all of my years of owning Apple devices (which now include several iPods, one being an iPod touch) I have had exactly TWO Macs fail. That is out of so many I lost count. One was a iMac G5 that had the capacitor problem but was two months past the extended warrantee, cost too much to fix it. The other was my previous MacMini, the motherboard gave out (one of the few times I didn't get an extended warrantee) and it was not worth it to fix it so I spent a little more money for a much better version of the MacMini.
If you had 50% failure (if I believe you that is) what have you had like two Macs???
Don't bother answering because I have put you on ignore as I really no longer believe anything you say.
A customer is seated in a crowed restaurant at the peak of dinner hour.
-- The waiter approaches: "Good Evening, Sir-- what may I get get for you?"
-- The customer replies: "The same as last time!"
Sadly, I don't think it is so much a technology issue-- or even one of facts. Rather, it is an issue of entitlement-- it goes something like this:
-- I am entitled to have everything I want
-- I am perfect, therefore the things I use must be perfect, too
-- I do not need to adapt to the way something works to exploit it, rather, the thing needs to adapt to me
-- My standards are the highest, therefore I get to decide how and what others must do meet them
-- I am looking out for the good of mankind, etc, therefore I am entitled to criticize others on their motives, performance, etc.
-- Though I have no intention of using a product, I am entitled to decide what is acceptable to others, for their own good.
-- I need not explain my reasoning, nor supply supporting facts, I am entitled to my opinion and others must accept it, prima facie.
-- I am aware that others are not as enlightened as me, so I will assume the burden of educating them
-- I am a speaker of truth and you must follow and remember everything I say
I suspect, that Americans exhibit the "entitlement mentality" more than citizens of other countries. We've always had it pretty good in America-- it is easy to fall into the trap that we are "entitled" to have the best of everything. The welfare society, journalism, and advertising do a lot to support that attitude.
Reading through these threads for the past 3 weeks, you see a lot of posts that exhibit one or more of the above "entitlement" characteristics.
Humans, being what we are, are all guilty, to some extent, of an entitlement mentality-- I know that I am!
But, if you follow, the content and logic of some who post here, you will often find a hidden agenda with an "entitlement mentality" in that their offerings are above reproach-- If you don't get it, it is because you just haven't been paying attention to the truths they've offered. But, fear not, they will deign to repeat their truths for as long as it takes to bring us to a state of enlightenment,
Again, sadly, this only adds cruft, and detracts from, nay, overwhelms the reasoned discussion of problems or their solution.
.
I've always been amused (and irritated at the same time) by some of the comments made by folks who would never make those same comments in person. Before posting, I try to imagine that I've just met this poster at a party, surrounded by close friends and acquaintances. Upon engaging in spirited discussion, would I want my rude comment, directed at the person right in front of me, to be overheard by everyone within earshot, and would I be be embarassed by same? Would you not want to walk away from a person who was so rude as to utter some of the nonsense you see here, while everyone else becomes silent with mutual embarassment? It is way too easy to hide behind the internet blogging mask, but I hope that folks might take a moment and imagine just such a scenario as outlined above before making rude and basically immature comments. Sure hope so, and it would serve to keep this board as civil as humanly possible.
And, oh by the way Dick, there you go again (with apologies to the ghosts of Reagan, Carter, and Mondale), what's with the logic? Don't let it happen again, OK?

i bet jfanning is one of those jealous Android users who cant stand the fact that their phones are junk.
CR won't do that. They've made their position clear.
1. They report that the iPhone has better reception than any other smart phone - even with the problem. They gave it their highest rating.
2. They said that even the minor glitch could be resolved with use of a bumper.
.
Ahh, some more classic fud by Mr. Fudmaster jrogosta. CR never said the iPhone has the best reception even with the problem. They said the iPhone had the *worst* reception of the phones they tested. And they never said it was a minor glitch. LOL!! Reception is a major part of a phone. Thus their not recommended rating. Why do you lie and troll so much ? I guess it's hard for you to admit the truth, ehh ? It's comical how much you twist the facts. Do you really think people believe your fud and lies ? I know why you lie, it's because the truth won't support your position, thus you have to lie and twist facts. LOL
The title of course is hyperbolic, but the point - that if a plastic/rubber coating helps the iPhone's reception, as Steve Jobs (quoting CR) said it did, then is the design of the iPhone 4 a problem? Should Apple have put something between the user and the antenna? I don't know the answer, and the author only gives us his "hunch," but I suspect we will be seeing more about this in the future. My guess is that Apple will put a "coating" - as anandtech suggested in his review and like the nail polish that someone else on this thread mentioned - to mitigate the problem. By October 1st, earlier, never? It will be interesting to find out.
Again, No offense but what am I supposed to think? You quoted an idiot and a known liar who admits to twisting the truth on his show. When you quote someone like that it's reasonable that assume people will associate your judgement and your level of knowledge with the well-known idiot and liar.
My purpose, here, is not to defend Rush Limbaugh, rather to defend the truth.
I hate to press you on this but you are making some pretty outlandish claims, e.g:
"You quoted an idiot and a known liar who admits to twisting the truth on his show."
I listened to Rush, on a fairly regularly basis. He was wary, but sometimes made mistakes. He would go out of his way to correct the record, ASAP, and apologize where necessary. He has an independent agency monitor his show and verify the things he says for accuracy (based on fact). AIR, the ratings are published quarterly and fall in the range 97.7-97.8% accurate.
I suspect that is far, far higher than any journalist you can name.
I will locate a link and post the citation, later.

I never "admitted" that Rush was "not concerned with the truth". To the contrary, I believe that Rush is very concerned with the truth (he is willing to pay to prove it). I do not think Rush presents every side to every issue, but his statements are mostly accurate.
As, noted above, Rush is concerned enough with truth (accuracy) that he has his show independently, monitored and rated.
Who else do you know who is more (or equally) concerned with the truth-- to the extent that they are willing to have their public words monitored and rated for accuracy.

It seems to me that engineering is ALWAYS a question of compromise. It might make for a good sound byte to say that Apple "elevated form over function," but form is a part of function. There seems little doubt that making devices HUGE like they used to be would allow for bigger batteries, faster processors, more memory, and more powerful antennas, transmitters, and amplifiers -all things that do no good if people don't want to use the device.
Apple has the right idea in my opinion. I know lots of people with the iP4, and they all love it. A few of them are die-hard Apple fans, but most of them are business people that use the phone as a tool but also appreciate it is as a toy.
I truly think that this is an example of how an uninformed public can be preyed upon by a media that seeks not to inform, but to incite a reaction.

I'm gonna steal your 2nd quote above. This makes the visit to this thread worthwhile -- I learned something new!
So let me get this straight, the Apple bashers out there are apoplectic that 1) Steve Jobs dared to reveal to the world that the antenna weak spot on the iPhone 4 that they are all yelling about is a disaster comparable to or even worse than the oil spill in the Gulf is NOT unique to the iPhone and is also present in other smartphones such as those made by RIM and Nokia, that 2) they continue to claim that the problem is actually worse on the iPhone 4 even though the iPhone 4 has a lower return rate and fewer calls to Applecare about it than the iPhone 3GS and 3) Apple did not issue a recall of the iPhone 4 for a problem that bothers a miniscule number of users?

Not your name. The photo just reminded me of the old joke about the Oakland A's, former known as the Oakland Athletics.
So, if you were a supporter of the A's, then you obviously were an Athletics supporter!
BTW: I once had a client by the name of Richard Wacker. He insisted on being called "Dick". Go figure!
I knew Richard Wacker (one of my students, and an excellent Optometrist and UC educator in the east bay, if that is the same person).
I knew Dick Wacker, and you my friend, are no Dick Wacker (with apologies to the former VP candidates)!

Don't hold your breath waiting for his "unbiased" results!
Well, at home for me on my iPhone 4 (4.0.1) I generally get 1-3 bars. Even when on 1 bar, if I do a "death grip" it is 1 bar.
Apple has had a history of poor engineering, they rank low in quality surveys.
Which is why they rank #1 in customer satisfaction year after year? And if there IS a problem, their customer service also ranks #1 year after year.

It is rather long and contains a bit of bluster-- though, not so much as some the antennagate diatribes!
If you take the time to read through the article you will find an interesting perspective,
Finally, I'll ask again: Did you read the article?
You might be pleased (or embarrassed) to find that Rush holds many of the opinions as you have supported on AI threads.
Rush, doesn't particularly care for Apple's and Steve Jobs' liberal politics (no surprise).
But he does admire them as a business / visionary for what they do and how they do it. I agree, wholeheartedly with that!
.
Which isn't obvious at all, apparently.
Tell me more about this - what patent Nokia have on antennas ?
