I plan to upgrade my iPad every two years, and even I consider that to be a pretty short upgrade cycle. I'll probably hand my Air down and get the Air 3. I really want TouchID.
Why mention the 5c at all if you really meant the middle tier? What else is in the middle tier?
Edit I see. you mean 5C sold better than the 4S did the year before. Okay. But that is kind of weird because the 4S was a two year old phone for $99 and the 5C is a brand new phone at full price.
The 5C starts at $99, so not sure what you mean by "at full price". Plus most of the technology in the 5C is exactly the same as the 5 so you can't really say the 4S is two years old but the 5C is brand new.
Apple sells billions in products yet they don't produce the revenue that some analyst guessed that they should and that means business is slipping? It's like betting on a football game, losing on the spread and then blaming the team. Wall Street ladies and gentleman.
My father still being very satisfied with its ipad 2 says ot all. Upgrade cycle is very long.
Some saturation as well. A household with 2 or more iPhones could get along with just one iPad.
Yeah, but the "one-per-home" usage pattern may change ...
For example, during the recent World Cup you could watch games live on your iPad as well as on the TV. With some of the streaming apps (and possibly a new AppleTV) that $499 iPad could take on the additional role of a Personal TV. We just might see grandpa fighting the grandkids for control of the iPad.
Personal TV could be a nice growth opportunity for iPads -- especially when you consider that the CableCo cable coming into the home suffers if it is split to service more than 3 TVs (each with their $20/mo STB).
This Benedict Evans tweet sums up things perfectly:
Apple continues to grow in the parts that were supposed to be tough and slowed down in the parts that it was supposed to be winning
iPad sales were up 50% in Middle East, China and India. iPhone up 10% in Europe, 48% in China. The typical media meme that cheap Android devices would hurt Apple isn't really panning out. It seems like Samsung is the one feeling it from cheap Android phones in Asia.

Wouldn't that have been the case last year at this time too?
Perhaps, but I also think that iPad upgrade times are longer for many people. Most people aren't going to buy a new iPad every year, and maybe the market is somewhat saturated especially in non developing countries.
Can anyone explain why it has dropped for two quarters in a row?
Because the competition has finally caught up with "good enough" tablets for the market, many of these super-cheap compromised-experience tablets out of China. You wouldn't believe what is sold in that country! Tablets for $30-$40 even! Yet they are useless!
I do find the headline to be a bit pessimistic, especially since this is an Apple related site. Apple did surprise in a number of areas, including ridiculous margins. This earnings was pretty good for Apple, I don't care what anybody else says, and I put my money where my mouth is, because I'm going to be adding some more shares pretty soon.

Nothing. I was elaborating on your point. And agreeing. Not everybody got what you meant.

I'll send an email to Tim.
Yes! Tim's comments, insight and emphasis revealed much, much more than the dry performance numbers did.
It appears that Tim is very excited about the IBM arrangement!
And the way he turned around the question about iPhone trade-ins cannibalizing new sales ...

The iPad figures are worrying however. ( iPhone did well).
I don't think so. Many people are waiting for the new ones right around the corner.
My phone company has been trying to get me to upgrade my plan.
No thanks, I'm waiting for something, like millions of other eligible people.
Shame on your AppleInsider.
okay got it, but now the 4S is zero

Samsung and any other company are more than happy to have this kind of "Falls Short of Expectations". Yup, what's wrong with AI?
