Apple announces Sept. 9 event for 'iPhone 6s,' updated Apple TV at massive new venue
Apple on Thursday sent out invitations to members of the media, making official its anticipated Sept. 9 event at San Francisco's Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. It's expected to showcase not only a next-generation "iPhone 6s" handset, but also a new Siri-enabled Apple TV set-top box.
This year's event comes with the tagline "Hey Siri, give us a hint," likely alluding to the voice input expected to be a part of this year's revamped Apple TV. The new set-top box is also widely anticipated to feature a redesigned controller with touchpad, as well as a dedicated App Store for downloading third-party applications.
As for the next-generation iPhone, the so-called "iPhone 6s" is expected to boast Force Touch, gaining the same pressure-sensitive contextual input method already found in the Apple Watch and latest MacBooks.
As was rumored, Apple's Sept. 9 event will be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, which has a seating capacity of 7,000. That's a much larger venue than those traditionally used by Apple to host its annual iPhone events -- the Yerba Buena Center can hold 1,470 people, while Cupertino's Flint Center hosts 2,400 visitors.
If Apple sticks to its usual release schedule, as is expected, the company would likely make its new iPhones available for sale the following Friday, on Sept. 18. The revamped Apple TV is also expected to hit the market soon after it is announced.
With the event now officially set to take place in less than two weeks, leaked parts and details about the new iPhone have continued to mount, though many of the details have been known for some time. AppleInsider exclusively reported back in February, that the next iPhone will feature Force Touch input, while sources indicated in March that it will boast 2 gigabytes of RAM.
Parts leaks and iOS code have reaffirmed that the "iPhone 6s" and its larger counterpart, the "iPhone 6s Plus," will gain Force Touch input. The device is also expected to feature a faster "A9" processor, as well as the same durable 7000 series aluminum found on the Apple Watch.
Other leaks have suggested the "iPhone 6s" will feature a 12-megapixel camera that may shoot 4K-resolution video. And code found hidden in iOS 9 suggests the "iPhone 6s" will sport a forward facing flash and 1080p-resolution front camera that would offer better selfies, particularly in low-light situations.
In another change to its lineup, Apple is also expected to offer its latest iPhones with a new rose gold color option. That would join the existing three variants of space gray, white, and gold.

When I asked, " hey siri give me a hint" the reply was Can you get a hint? No. You may, however, get a what what. When I asked give us a hint I got a local location. So do we think there will actually be a separate event for Ipad in October or will they roll it into one?
