He's simply implying that a hardline connection will always (on paper) have better speeds.
But yeah, the whole 'i don't care if you think you get no lag' was a pretty lame statement to make.
i was referring to a host situation. sometimes you'll get the host and have no lag but give others lag. that's what i meant by that, sorry for not being clear.
and yes on paper, considering most situations a hardwired connection will always be better than wifi, and most consumers won't have the set up able to run high speed wifi regardless.
and you guys would still deny that Blu-ray is a PS3 format?
I guess it really doesn't matter to Sony but, it is still hard to tell whether PS3 is saving blu-ray or the blu-ray saving PS3.
..,.
Does it really matter? The PS3 effectively killed HD-DVD. Also from my perspective as a non-gamer, it seems that the Xbox MAY have a better selection of games now but in a year or two MS will be scrambling for an Xbox replacement or upgrade to catch up to the PS3 and it's software.
bite, what's your magic number for buying a BD player? There's some interesting titles coming out soon, the Jack Ryan movies next month and L.A. Confidential in September. 4Q should have some great releases. Also Netflix seems to have its supply problem of BD discs solved.
It's kind of interesting, this thread started out with BD/HD and when will it be in Macs, then BD against HD and now gaming systems. I'm surprised the moderators either haven't locked this thread or at least moved it to the General Board but then again, BD burners haven't come out in Macs yet so I guess it's still a valid but mostly off-topic thread.
Ahhh... Darmok and, and Jalad... at Tanagra. Sukat, his eyes uncovered!"

I'm authoring BD discs right now in my Mac Pro with an aftermarket burner and a combination of Toast 9 and a Windows app via Parallels. It's a big damn mess and I can't wait for Apple to update DVD Studio Pro and straighten it all out for me.

It does not matter if Blu-Ray succeed DVD in the optical disc market, however, if it fails or takes 10+ years to roll out then the blu-ray is just a bad optical disc format that killed/slowed HDM optical disc implementation. In 10+ years, we would probably have something much better than the current blu-ray or perhaps no need for an optical disc as a media for HDM delivery.

No magic number, just a magic BD player with higher-end specs I'm looking for under $1k. I would still prefer a combo player, though. Anyway, since such machine did not exist (not sure if it does now), I had decided to go with HTPC route instead. I'm very close to getting the LG combo drive because of decent HDM releases on BD discs this summer and fall.
Either way, I would soon be stuck in temporary housing for at least three months and I have to put my whole house in storage during the transition. Perhaps, I can make an external drive out of the LG combo drive and use the laptop or a new macmini for the time being, but still don't feel the urgency.
I'm actually more interested in the new iphone 3G than getting a blu-ray player for now.

They've been saying this since before release. When is it really going to happen? and what's your reasoning behind it in the first place?
It has effectively taken Sony 2.5 years to release their first triple AAA title. 2008 was going to be the "the year of the ps3" and yet most of their touted games either got delayed (killzone 2), canceled (getaway, eight days) or flat out bombed (haze). So what software are you really talking about?
Home has been delayed multiple times and the buzz has completely died out. Their online market place is still a disaster, though i've heard of improvements, and the entire online gaming is still years behind xbox live.
On top of this all you're assuming microsoft is just sitting on their lead with nothing up their sleeves.
Rather than say "sony is making strides to improve their gaming line up" no, it's "the PS3 will start to dominate during_____and will surpass the 360 in____"
it's perplexing because there isn't any base or real solid reasoning for such a thing

Can you give me an example of how PSN is a disaster? It is leaps and bounds better than before, works great and is easy to navigate. Yeah, what a disaster. I don't get all the hype about Live being so great. I can go online and play NHL08 and it is (usually, depending on the other person) lag free.

Errr, other than looking at sales figures and doing a small amount of extrapolation...
Errr, other than looking at sales figures and doing a small amount of extrapolation...
err, which shows at the current rate it would take the ps3 20 years to catch up and surpass the 360.
there should be some kind of syndrome for this type of thinking- if the ps3 keeps pushing back their games and services, (killzone 2, home) then the PS3 will always look to have a brighter horizon. = \\
example: final fantasy commercials have been running since before launch, and all indications are that the game wont be released till late 09 and maybe early 2010. that's a lot of snowballing!

Are your calculations based on the difference staying the same? Because that is flawed. If the rate at which the PS3 continues to grow is factored in, you will have a much different result!

as in the ps3 edging the 360 every month in the same amount. obviously the rate wont stay the same, and i'll tell you right now, once the holiday season kicks in the 360 will be on top by a good margin.

so if anyone says "in the future--the PS3 will do better" they are wrong.
but you can say "in the future the 360 will sell more" and you are right..
cool logic, but its strange how you are the only one on this thread with that opinion.

is it shocking that i might be the only one in an apple forum arguing in favor of a windows product? i hate microsoft for many reasons you all do (haven't owned a pc sine 98), but the 360 is a quality gaming platform, sorry doods
yes, i am saying the 360 will sell more in the fall, it has for the past few years and it will continue to do so because of the games coming out for the platform. Gears Of War 2 will be the biggest game this fall, are you going to argue that?
the attach rates i refer to are the games, not peripherals or movies, GAMES. oh, and walter both consoles seem to be slowing down, but again this is the slowest point of the year for gaming. reports are coming in that much like GTA4 didn't move as many consoles it was assumed it would, MGS4 is only giving the PS3 a slight push this month.
fishy- they had final fantasy screens at all of their E3 events, even the one prior to launch. most of the commercials are aired in japan, and they have been airing since the launch of the ps3... oh and in typical CGI sony fashion nonetheless.
do you want me to find the one prior to the release of the PS3? the one they showed at E3 as well or are you good now? i don't understand why are you so defiant, this has been sony's way of hyping their console pre-ps2 days. it's how they effectively killed off the dreamcast. it was shocking when the ps2 finally came out and had no quality games compared to the far superior gaming machine the dreamcast was at the time.

you keep repeating this meme, but that assumes that the 360 sales remain constant, all indications are that its sales rates are slowing down.
attach rates are high because people are HAVING to buy things like the wifi, which happens to be included in the PS3.
but then wifi doesnt matter because its no use anyway, isnt that right
what part of microsoft do you work in anyway?
