Close but still some bugs to work out. Newtork and mail issues mainly. Also, CD burning is slow - real slow. I predicit November - December as the release date.
What a shame. I won't order a G5 until it comes pre-installed with Panther. But no doubt, they will have faster machines after Christmas so it will be a two edged sword.
7B49 feels quite finished to me on first look. Toast 5.2.1 works again. For me, most windows open where I left them the last time. For example: Finder's Preferences window. So I can't confirm what the other person up there reported.
The System Preferences window comes centered and at the top of the main screen everytime I open them. Fine with me, doesn't look wrong. Closing the window indeed closes the application, which is the _right_ way according to Apple's own HIG for one-window applications.
No crashes so far. No visual glitches so far. Everything looking quite perfect.
ceterum censeo brushed metal esse delendam. (at least in the finder...)
That's _just_ what I meant, yes... And new Finder windows open where I last left them, not somewhere funny... But also not just centered or anything. But that was like that since 10.0, iirc.
ok so 7b44 was my hero cuz finally, finally the thing where you'd switch users and iChat would log you out or crash was fixed, but now that bug seems to have returned in 7b49 where it logs you out when you switch users or go to the login screen, is there some prefrence of this im missing somewhere?

Ahahah, 7B49 = seven before nine. Looks like this build is THAT much of a step back.
I only joke because it made sense to me at such a late hour in the evening. =_=
Are there any widget alignment problems present in this build? How refined and usable does it seem now?
oke to clear the miscommunication: ... 1.) create a new folder on the desktop and open it, where does it open? ... 2.) can anybody else go to the menubar>Finder (next to Apple-menu)
then choose 'preferences'. Drag that window to the bottom of your
screen.
Close it and tell me where it opens next time:
where you left it or at the top of screen glued to menubar?
Okay.
1.) It opens on the top left corner. A _tad_ too much to the left. Guess this'll be fixed.
2.) For me, the Finder Preferences open where I last left them. I can drag the window around, close it, reopen it and it opens where I've left it. Or do you mean to close it when it's half off-screen? (Which would be a stupid thing to do, I think...)
Comments
Thanks in advance

Is the Mail attachment bug fixed, or better at least?
the stroke around the shape is lighter so it only
shows up on darker BG (like on desktop) and not on white, giving
the impression that with white BG (in Finder window)
its only a gray shape without stroke
much better imo

What about other stuff? Does the bin empty, does smb work again. How do you rate stability against Jaguar?
system prefs still quits when pressed on close window button,
login/logout is superfast
what bugs me about Panther is that newly created finderwindows,
preferences screens, etc open glued either to the top menubar
or top menubar and far left and not sort of center screen anymore
but every new folder you open will open in the top LEFT corner
this is somethin you can not change offcourse coz it is a new
folder/window
( edited, it said RIGHT instead of LEFT corner)
preferences screens like from Finder, Addressbook or Safari will always
openin the system preset way, if you drag them to desired place
say middle of screen (wasn't this in the Aqua H I guidedlines?)
they will open in system preset way next time
Finder prefs for instance always opens glued to the menubar
to cut a long story short many screens/windows will not open
on the place you drag/specify but the system preset next time

on the keyboard while on desktop but Menubar>Finder>preferences
So you can drag it to the center middle, close it and next time
the pref window will open in center middle and not glued to
menubar (top of screen)?
for the rest loads of stuff seems to open in top right corner
instead of center screen, like brand new Finder window
(didnt they open center screen in Jag?)or documents
opened in preview etc
one can argue if Sys Prefs is truly a one window app or an app
with many windows made into one...
its silly though that they added a menu to the Dockicon which
only works when the app is active. Now what I try to do is hide it, although
I forget and still close it, and then the Dock menu is useless
I mean...
create a new folder on the desktop and open it, where does it open?
(...as do many other things, newly downloaded ~and opened from the desktop~ DMG's for instance)
That folder will open where I left it next time and
a new Finder window as in apple-N as well, sure
now create and open a new folder on the desktop in 10.2, where does it open?
can anybody else go to the menubar>Finder (next to Apple-menu)
then choose 'preferences'. Drag that window to the bottom of your
screen.
Close it and tell me where it opens next time:
where you left it or at the top of screen glued to menubar?
Although you can still add your Home or favorite folders to the
horizontal FinderToolbar by dragging them onto it as in 10.2,
the items are NOT springloaded.
(Apple way of forcing us to use sidebar?)
I really hope they fix that.

This is very, very bad.
It had better be a bug.
