Why does anyone think that Apple would release a version of iTunes for Windows? Does anyone remember what the solution was when Apple released iPod for Windows? They went with Music Match Jukebox, a music player already made for Windows, and just lic'd a version (patched?) to work with iPod (sort of), why not do it again to work with their supposed new service?
I agree totally that they wouldn't want subvert their switcher campaign by bring iTunes to Windows.
i must say it was refreshing to not have only the xserve/xserve raid to look at on the apple site. I will be excited when there is a new iPod. I am getting 900 bucks from my school district at the end of march... the near st. patty's day release date is lookin mighty fine to me!
Latest word is new iPod is due 01/04/03 (EU Date format)
Today Apple are marketing this to UK by email... Read it carefully + my footnote at the bottom.

NOTICE the 10% reduction is only worth anything to products over £300 (which are the 2 remaining iPod models) £30 of a new mac or digital cam/corder is no big deal is it..? As for headphnes or speakers - Apple don't sell any of these items £300+ ? ? ?

Ah... but if you add together some of the more piddly priced items at the Apple Store then very, very quickly you can eclipse the £299 prerequisite. I don't think they are reserving this offer for individual items only.
Soooo....I'm thinking that Apple is holding off on releasing iPods until this service is in place. Why? New version of iTunes for Mac and Windows users released the same time as new iPods. I can't believe that the major labels would jump on board without support for the 'other' 97% of computer users....
The mac version should always be first! Wait, a pc version of iTunes? That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. Either way, mac first, let them sweat it out for 3-6 months like we have.
The reason they don't care about the other 95% is because the music services currently online, none work with the mac!
I just realized the potential...what if Apple adopted the 'razor and blades' approach?
If Apple gets a cut of each online music purchase, the more iPods in the market the better. Thus, the cost of iPods may be seriously discounted in order to drive the purchase program.
I hope Apple has the manufacturing capacity to exploit this opportunity.
I just noticed.... if you try to add an iPod to a powerbook purchase on the Apple Canada site, there is no option for a 5gig one... only 10 and 20.
i dont know if this has been noticed before but i ordered from apple the book "mac os x for windows users, a switchers guide" by david coursey. and today in my email i got an apple store email coupon for 50 dollars off. i didnt know apple did this. anyway the intresting part is the expiration date, is this an indication of new ipods?
Pocket-size and ultralight, the 10GB iPod holds 2000 songs, delivers superior sound quality, and features 10 hours of continuous playtime on a single battery charge.* Thanks to FireWire speed, it can download an entire CD in 15 seconds or less. Save $50 when you use this instant coupon by March 29, 2003, to buy a 10GB iPod for PC (starting at $399), and either a Belkin FireWire PCI Card ($49.95) for your desktop computer or a Unibrain FireCard400 ($59) for your laptop.

no longer stupid expensive.
but sucky.
from Apple.
May be a while yet people...
And the article is intriguing... Why would this be holding up new iPods though?

Obviously, Apple is busy stockpiling musicians to embed into new generation iPods.
5Gb is now 'unavaliable' at the UK Apple Store, however, the 10 and 20 Gb are only 1 to 3 days

The 5 GB iPods have been "unavailable" at the UK Apple Store for quite some time now.
Guys, I'm telling you that I got an email offering an iPod deal that expires 3/14. Take it for what you will.

I heard you Fran . In fact I mentioned your statement in my previous message about dates.
But you can't take my ability to hope away!

I always view the date 01/04/03 with suspicion.
