the thing i loved about episode one was the final scene with music blaring, hearing the light sabers' clashing and the whole fight scene with darth maul(?).....that made the movie for me....awesome music
i didn't see/hear anything like it in episode 2....geesh....couldn't they come up with one new song/theme for each movie???? if they played some kind of heroic/etc. song during the big battle at the stadium with the jedi and all, that would have been AWESOME....oh well...
MUSIC could have added SOOOOOOO much to it....there was nothing noticeable
not holding much hope for episode 3, but, of coarse, i'll see it atleast once
Um Max what are you talking about? Did you fall asleep when Yoda was kicking ass with a light saber? Or when Anakin put up 2 lightsabers and duked it out? Or when Obi tried to fight Dooku?! Oh yeah and what about the hundreds of Jedi all wielding lightsabers and charging into battle and kicking ass?
And how did you not hear the great music, some of it old but great, some of it new but great? I loved it when they silently played the imperial march as Anakin spiraled out of control against the Sand People, and the new theme for EPII that is sort of a mix of old and new. Great music, great fighting.
John Williams hasn't been churning out memorable themes lately. I liked the one track from the Saving Private Ryan score, but the scores to TPM, AotC, the Patriot, and others have been unremarkable.
And the recycled themes are intentional. There is an Amidala/Padme theme, an Anakin theme, a Vader theme, etc. There are plenty of new songs in the score as well...they just aren't very good. Duel of the Fates, the song you hear in the final TPM saber battle also doesn't do it for me...
Personaly I do think Williams is highly overrated, but I did like the music in EPII. There where several times in the movie (including when they played TPM theme, I have always loved that song) that made me stop and think, wow thats cool music and perfect for the scene. Just my $.2
When it comes down to it, Episodes 4, 5, and 6 were pretty damn silly themselves. Especially 4 an 6. The Empire Strikes Back was pretty good in my books, in most respects.
- Mark Hamill is a terrible actor. So is his "dad," apparently.
- C3P0 and R2D2 have always been stupid and annoying.
-Ewoks? WTF? Lame.
I think you fellas expect these movies to be completely perfect. The reason the first 3 were interesting is due to the concept. The concept is now 20 years old, so we aren't as kind to the movies.
Is anyone else put off buy the fact that Jar-Jar basically paved the way for the formation of the Empire?
I agree with the general consensus of the posts, the love scenes and comic lines went over like a lead balloon, acting and writing.
A lot of the scenes reminded me of "What Dreams May Come" when Robin William's heaven is to be plopped into one of his wife's paintings. Too many times the actors stuck out like a sore thumb among the CGI.
Did anyone see it on a digital screen? I wonder if it was better.

seriously!
I just got back from the theatre...this movie is ****ing awesome, it had awesome action scenes, good insight into vader, great plot, good insight into boba fett, owen lars..etc.
granted there were some parts where I felt like "god why are they doing this" but then I realized, that I was being foolish to be so critical, looking back on 4,5,6(which I've been watching in the past few days)
they were VERY silly, there was some awful acting(and some great acting) there were awful jokes, and loads of other just overall, silly things. yet imortalized over 20 years, the original star wars series, is now in a position of utter invincibilty from the fans, and those who would see the new ones instantly have such a disposition against them....I was greatly entertained by clones, and though it had some questionable parts when it came to some of the writing and the likes, it was still damn entertaining and I am eagerly awaiting episode 3 now.
overall: I really really enjoyed this movie, it had its weak moments, the last half hour or so was ****ing awesome no matter how you slice it(yoda fighting...was.....something) alot of the anakin/padme interactions were kind of lame...but at the same time I repeatadly saw Han/leia in them. oh well, I doubt I'll convince any of the naysayers on this board to reconsider....but thats not my place...my stance is that I really liked it.
this comes to mind:
jay and silent bob strike back said it best in "the internet was made for geeks to bad mouth movies"
And Obi-Wan, when visiting Jango Fett in his room, walked right past the closet, with Jango's armor sitting RIGHT THERE, dying to be seen! All Obi-Wan had to do was glance to his left to see that this was indeed the guy they briefly glimpsed on Coruscant, rocketing away into the sky.

It would appear that Jedi mind powers have become subjective to aid plot lines.
Go SEE episodes 4-5-6 before seeing EP2. I did because a tv station was having a sort of marathon before the release of EP2.
They really do suck. Lots of acting is pretty bad, some scenes don't glue, a lot of the fx are horrible...
We all seem to be glued to StarWars as we REMEMBER it 10-15 years ago and the magic it instilled upon us back then. If you look at it again with a more open mind and look at it with less cult status, you will see that EP2 was fantastic.
Some cheesy scenes, yes (R2 having rockets? THAT wouldve been useful in 4-5-6; the very very video game type scenes of the assembly line where Anakin and Padme jump and roll through, etc). But, by goodness sake, the asteroid chase was amazing, the various Jedi battles were amazing, the whole beginning with head-spinning chase throughout Coruscant, the 'cloners' homeworld with amazing insides, etc).
Even Yoda jumping around... it was silly yes, but I was laughing and cheering and just thinking... Yoda had us fooled all along... limping and weak to make his enemies put their guard down.
I went to see the movie with extremely low expectations. I am one of the more militant anti EP1 people out there... and EP2 has restored my faith in Lucas.
For me, EP3 will be the deciding factor if Lucas managed to screw up his creation or make it awesome.
Not to mention it some of the darkest scenes of any other StarWars movie... Anakin slaughtering the Tuskan raiders, Obi-Wan in the arena fighting against that crab-like creature (he was really really pissed off), Windu charging Jango with an expression like "you're gonna die sucka" and then lobbing off his head... wow. Many eye opening scenes.
Say what you will people.... fact is it was MUCH better than EP1... and also that its not more or less silly than 4-5-6.
Grrrreat. For the next 3 years all we're going to hear is "Episode II sucked!" "No it didn't, shut up, it was awesome!!"
Aren't there any moderates here?

Moderation doesn't have a place here. Even among the moderators...
Don't worry, we've got two Lord of the Rings movies and the Matrix sequels to come first.
[quote]Whats up with the Fetts? Why do they all die like punks?

Uh, 'cause they're punks?
Even that was laughable. I realize it's got to get a reasonable certificate, but a decent beheading should put a lump in your throat, like in Gladiator or Black Rain. It needed red vapor, like the slicing of Darth Maul. Fett's death was just comedy, especially when little Boba picks up the helmet. There's a head in there! Where's the bloody stump?
Belle, I think lightsaber would have a cauterizing effect. But, I agree, that otherwise kickass scene was ruined by that little bump when his head dropped like C3PO's head!
EP II sucked. Where is the GENIUS of Lucas? 4-6 were based on so many great works of literature (weren't they? Oedipus Rex, obviously ) The humans are what sucked worst in this movie, and that's pretty sad. The acting was far worse than anything Hamill did, and that's also pretty sad.
Eugene, you don't like Dual of the Fates!?
The 7 minute techno version of Dual of the Fates is faaar better than the original. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Does anyone (please PLEASE I must get it on CD!) know who did this "techno" Dual of the Fates (sometimes called the dance mix?)???????
Belle, I think lightsaber would have a cauterizing effect.

She's right though, why wasn't there any mist of blood like when Maul was cut in half by a lightsaber?
I can see the hand/arm thing. They're not as large as a neck and probably don't contain as many blood vessels (why the hell am I debating this) so they could easily be cauterized by a red-hot (err purple actually) laser.
Maybe Fetts species doesn't have blood...yeah thats it.
No wait...maybe Mace is soooo badass that his lightsaber actually disintegrated Fett's head. So when little Boba picked it up, it was empty...yeah, thats the ticket.
Something else I noticed: during the end battle, did some of you guys notice a 60's Japanese sci-fi TV show look to the filming?
There were a couple of instances where those landing craft things that the clone troopers and Yoda were riding on were flying through the air. For once, it didn't look CGI, but rather like a model suspended from strings, with fake smoke around it.
Then the camera zoomed in to it really quick. You always see that on the Power Rangers, and I remember, as a kid, when I'd see some of those Japanese superhero import TV shows. And that was one of the signature camera things: a quick zoom into a character or an object.
Do you all know what I'm talking about? It happened two or three times during the big end battle, and, to me, it was kinda weird and jarring because it was never used anywhere else in the movie, OR any of the OTHER movies.
It was as if George was trying to sneak in a little homage one particular day.
Somebody else back me up on this.

I'll back you up on that if you back me up on this:
In the arena scene, all the little caves and rock fixtures looked like...umm...well...vaginas. Please don't tell me it was just me.
I saw it and I thought it was decent. Not the best Star Wars movie but the best action I've ever seen in a Star Wars movie. The epic battle scenes of the Clones fighing the droid army and loading into Star Destroyers? at the end did it for me, amazing.
There was a lot of cheese in the plot though. The whole Anakin/Amidala love stuff was painful to sit through. Both actors looked so stiff and forced, no chemistry whatsoever. The 'scar' dialogue was decent but Hayden read it like Monday's lunch menu at the school cafeteria. And OMG that line when they first reach the Naboo vacation home, "I don't like sand, its coarse and rough, but you are smooth and soft". Mega cheese, i was rooting for Amidala to smack him.
Also anyone notice after Amidala gets thrown out of speeding transport onto sand she jumps up and tells trooper they need to "get to that hangar"? What hangar? How the hell did she know there was a hangar or where it was?
Those clone troops had some bad ass blue pulse rifles that were wrecking the droid army. If the clone army turns into the stormtroopers why the hell did they give up their awesome weapons and ability to shoot for innacurate imperial blasters and the shooting prowess of a drunk ewok.
I thought the Yoda fight scene was fantastic and not at all corny like some. Yoda is the MOST POWERFUL jedi. He's got incredible powers he just doesn't use most of the time because he knows restraint and would rather meditate than fight. That is the way of the light side.
She's right though, why wasn't there any mist of blood like when Maul was cut in half by a lightsaber?

every lightsaber fatality I've seen hasn't had exorbant amounts of blood...it would make sense it cauterizes the cut.
as for fett...I was wondering that too...what about the head in that helmet boba?....and does boba use his dads armor or does he obtain his own...if he uses his dads(which was a different color than bobas...as was slave 1)then it must be pretty hard for boba to remove the head...poor kid....at any rate I think we'll be seeing some boba fett action in episode 3.

ok, i started the clapping, but the whole theater joined in
it was starwars, it was cheesy, it was great.

1) Obi Wan, Mace and Yoda(floating) going down that giant hallway. It looked like they were just plopped in front of a giant painting.
2) Anakin on the horse/cow/dung beetle thing on Naboo.
3) Any close up of people in the arena at the end. You could practically see the outlines against the blue screen.
4) Dooku on the speeder.
5) Anakin floating the 'pear' to Padmae. When she takes a bite out of the fruit, it is soooo obvious that it is a CG effect. Very poorly done.
Heh, Jar Jar doomed the galaxy
