  • Compared: Apple Maps versus Google Maps in 2022

I’ve been using Apple Maps since it’s introduction. Over the years I have travelled (urban and rural) through PA, FL, VA, MD, CA, NYC, MA, MI, OH, and England (greater London area) and, except for a handful of issues the first year or so, it’s been totally fine. For many years I’ve not had any issues with directions and locations.

However, I do really wish you could add a stop at any location during directions. That is the only thing I’m jealous about with Google Maps.

  • EU plans to require backdoor to encrypted messages for child protection

I’m glad more and more people are waking up to the lies of our governments, but there are still too many people with their head in the sand.

Their reasons have little to do with CSAM other than to use it to gain public support as one step toward something the majority of people would currently reject—routine surveillance of all our communications. This is what (poor) leaders do, they inch their authoritarian policies onto a gullible public by lying about their reasons, and a public with shockingly short term memories refuse to think independently.

People really need to wake up. What’s happening in western countries right now is exactly what the US founders were trying to escape.

  • Apple to restructure services business to focus more on advertising, streaming

That’s great news! We don’t see enough advertising. This is a win-win for businesses and consumers. What thinking person doesn’t want to see more advertisements?

More to the point, who doesn’t want to be encouraged, even more than we already are, to find satisfaction in life by what we buy and what we’re told to think? That’s a staple of a stable society! The idea that a society is stable because it’s most foundational group, the family, is stable is naive and outdated. We can only expect good things from our brave leaders to make something work that has never worked in history ever before.

  • EU accuses Apple of breaking antitrust laws with Apple Pay [u]

The fundamental issue here needs to be clearly addressed by both sides.

Does the existence of NFC hardware in Apple’s products obligate Apple to allow others to use it? More importantly, in what way is Apple stifling competition when there are other products consumers can use, and is Apple stopping the development of new competing NFC-equipped devices?

It seems like the EU and those who support their perspective see Apple’s devices as an isolated market, as if they exist separately from other markets and other competing products aren’t actually competition and consumer choice. i.e. A user shouldn’t have to switch devices to get the function they want. That obviously makes no sense, but that’s what they’re saying. So the question is why are they saying it?

  • EU antitrust bill could force Apple to make sweeping changes to Siri, App Store & More

… when I want it to do something a PA should do…

I am SOOOO glad I can use Google Maps on my iPhone, and I want it to stay that way. And if I get more choice on how to pay, search, navigate or do other stuff with my iPhone, I'll have it!

But I will continue to embrace other apps (like Google Maps) as they work so much better for me than Apple-branded apps which simply aren't as good as the competition.
I think you’re missing an important point. Why shouldn’t Apple, or anyone, be allowed to make a  product which you consider crappy? Why should the government be allowed to force companies to make their product in a way the government believes is good when there is no health or safety issue?

The way a market thrives is through accepting and promoting the reality that you are welcome to buy a different product or develop your own. Any other approach will eventually stifle the market, guaranteed.
